?Chapter 687:
“Carole!”
Surprised, Carole opened the door to find an unexpected visitor. It was Katharine, seeking her out for the first time.
Before Carole could even greet her, Katharine got straight to the point. “We need to go, now.”
“Where are we going?”
Carole noticed Katharine’s expression was unusually stern and impatient, which made her uneasy.
Marcelo had shared the findings of their investigation, which had led Ellie to contact Katharine. Since Carole was a member of the Lambert family, there was a chance she might try to use the Lambert name to defend herself. Ellie thought it best for Katharine to be the one to bring her in.
Meanwhile, Baylee hadpleted her hospital discharge process and was enjoying breakfast with Ellie at the hospital’s tea table. The two women chattedfortably, but the mood was quite different for the two men seated with them — it was noticeably tense.
A series of knocks sounded at the door. Almost simultaneously, Katharine’s voice came through. “Mrs. Thorpe, I’ve brought the person.”
Standing behind Katharine, Carole felt her heart tighten at those words. Her gaze instinctively shifted toward Baylee.
Baylee leaned back in her chair, herplexion pale, like a fragile flower.
Ellie stood up, immediately getting to the point. “Katharine, there’s something you need to know. Before Baylee’s ident, she received a text. It turns out it was sent by Aphrodite. She said she and Carole wanted to teach Baylee a lesson.”
Katharine stared at Carole in disbelief. She had suspected Carole might be in some sort of trouble, but the thought that Carole could have orchestrated Baylee’s ident was beyond her imagination.

Truth, observed Carole with a calm detachment. “I didn’t do it!” Carole protested, her face draining of color.
“Did you send it or not?” Ellie asked, her tone turning cold.
Startled by Ellie’s seriousness, Carole nced at Katharine, hoping for support. Katharine, ignoring Carole’s silent plea and unfazed by Ellie’s intensity, even seemed slightly entertained.
Despite her gentle and elegant appearance, Ellie was no pushover.
“Ellie, do you have any proof to use me like this? Yes, I called Aphrodite, but I have no reason to hurt Miss Curtis!”
Carole tried to stay calm, believing she should keep denying everything, even in the face of Aphrodite’s betrayal.
“Do you think we have no way to hold you ountable if you just deny everything?” Ellie saw right through her.
Carole bit her lip, trying not to let her hands shake.
