The party was still underway, and they were surrounded by sharp-eyed guests. Any sign of him getting aroused would certainly be noticed. Kaiden muttered a curse under his breath and gently pinched the back of Ellie’s neck.
“You’re in for it tonight.”
Upon Ellie and Kaiden’s return to the festivity, it was clear that the party was in full swing.
No sooner had they seated themselves than Jerome led a group forward, eager to get them involved in the merriment.
“Let’s raise a toast! Kaiden, Ellie, this one’s for you. Here’s to eternal love and aging gracefully together!”
With infectious enthusiasm, Jerome distributed whiskey sses to both Ellie and Kaiden.
Ellie eyed her ss with a mix of reluctance and apprehension, debating whether to politely refuse or risk the intoxicating effects. Kaiden, sensing her hesitation, gently took the ss from her, promptly finishing his own and then emptying Ellie’s as well.
“I’ll take hers,” he dered, his voice carrying a protective tone.
Ellie felt a fleeting warmth, as though the spirit of the drink had metaphorically touched her heart, sparking a sweet euphoria. The surrounding young men, ever eager to fuel the excitement, burst into apuse.
“Incredible! Mr. Thorpe truly knows how to care for his wife!”
In the midst of the celebration, Theo couldn’t resist joining in, offering another round of toasts with two more sses for the couple.
“To Kaiden and Ellie! May your life together be harmonious, and may you soon wee a new member to your family!”
“Thanks, Theo, but this drink…” Ellie began, only for Kaiden to intercept the sses, swiftly drinking on their behalf once more.
“Much appreciated,” he said, confidently cing the empty sses upside down to signifypletion.

Then, Kaiden requested a waiter to bring juice for Ellie, making it clear he preferred she abstain from alcohol.
Daniel observed this protective gesture with a raised eyebrow, evidently approving of Kaiden’s considerate approach towards Ellie. Edwin, witnessing Kaiden’s diligent care, felt aplex mixture of emotions. It was part obstruction, part genuine joy, an inner conflict that led him to question his own feelings.
At that moment, Theo nudged Edwin, hinting towards Kaiden, “Won’t you offer a toast to your brother and your former ssmate’s marriage?” How had his good old ssmate be his older friend’s wife? Internally sighing at the turn of events, Edwin lifted his ss, “To Kaiden and Ellie, congrattions!”
Kaiden paused before epting. “Sincerely?”
“Absolutely, with all sincerity!” Edwin responded, though the unspoken condition hung in the air. As long as Kaiden treated Ellie well, he would sincerely wish them happiness forever.
