?Chapter 529:
His yful side emerged. “I never truly wanted a divorce; my words yesterday were a fabrication.”
Ellie’s frustration surged. She questioned, “You say you like me, but what about Carole?”
Kaiden hadn’t anticipated her bringing up Carole, yet he wasn’t overly surprised.
“Well, she’s a childhood friend,” Kaiden rified. “If not for my brother’s tragic ident, she was meant to be engaged to him six years ago.”
“She was… to be engaged to your brother?” Realization dawned on Ellie. Initially, Carole had misled her, making her think she was intruding on Carole and Kaiden’s rtionship. When Ellie questioned Kaiden, it was about the Thorpe and Lambert families’ marriage alliance. Carole had intentionally deceived her!
“Why did you allow your rumors with her to be so public?” Ellie questioned further.
“I was left in the dark about it. But I was also negligent.”
Ellie’s gaze remained firm. “If I say I suspect Carole engineered this entire situation, would you believe me?”
“I would.” Kaiden’s response was immediate. He had reached the same conclusion.
Ellie hadn’t expected this, considering his past behavior favoring Carole.
“You… believe me?” she asked, her voice tinged with disbelief.
“I’m sorry,” Kaiden sighed. He felt remorse for causing her suffering, demonstrating patience as he acknowledged his mistakes.
Kaiden kissed Ellie gently, a gesture offort rather than passion. Ellie felt a surge of pent-up emotions at that moment, desperate to be released.
She inquired, “What about Light?”
“I’m sorry. She will be leaving Harvillston.” He acknowledged the extent of Ellie’s distress.
“I’ve read reports about you two at a hospital and a hotel. Were they just for a health check-up and casual conversation under a nket? There were rumors about Carole being there for a pregnancy test,” Ellie detailed each incident.

Kaiden was incredulous. He frowned. “Ellie, I’ve always been devoted to you. You are the only woman I am intimate with.”
The term “intimate” brought Ellie memories of their shared moments. Her cheeks flushed.
“This is serious!” Ellie eximed, her voice rising with frustration.
“You were the one who doubted me first,” Kaiden snorted.
Ellie was at a loss for words. Why did he shift the me to her?
“What prompted your visit to the hospital with Carole? And why did you end up at a hotel?” Ellie inquired.
“She visited someone who was unwell, and I apanied her to the hotel where she was taking a break,” Kaiden reflected briefly. “I’ll bring you to visit the patient tomorrow.”
