    “It was his request,” Laura exined with a shrug. “I confessed my feelings to Kaiden, and he told me to stay out of his sight.”


    Ellie was at a loss for words. She found Kaiden’s approach somewhat overbearing.


    Remembering Laura’s earlier assistance, Ellie offered, “If you really don’t want to go abroad, I could talk to him for you.”


    “No need,” Laura declined. “I’m not interested in a man who’s remarried. I confessed to him without knowing he was married, but when I saw how much he goes out of his way to protect you…”


    He goes out of his way to protect her?

    Ellie’s heart quickened as she reflected on Kaiden’s recent actions. His involvement in the Herod family’s affairs, his request for Laura to assist her, and his insistence that Laura leave the country… all pointed to a protective stance towards her.


    Laura continued, “Regarding the financial issue in my family, Kaiden intervened. He used your name to invest his own money. You’re now a shareholder in our family business. Just wait for the dividends.”

    She had sensed Kaiden’s kindness on several asions recently but had chosen to ignore it.
