    When Ellie stirred from her slumber, she found herself in a daze, her thoughts in disarray.


    The room, shrouded in darkness with only a faint bedsidemp casting a warm glow on the man and hisptop, seemed to deepen her confusion.


    “Are you not going to the office?” Ellie, fumbling in the dark for her phone, asked him, “Where’s my phone?”


    Kaiden handed her phone from the bedside table, remarking, “It’s already afternoon.”


    Shaking her head, Ellie, still groggy, mumbled, “Something’s not right.”


    Suddenly, a realization struck her. Eyeing Kaiden’sptop warily, she dared not make a sound.


    “I’m not in a video conference.” Kaiden chuckled, amused at her apprehension.


    Ellie peeked over, confirming he was reading an email.


    A wave of relief washed over her. “I thought I was in for another embarrassing moment!” She couldn’t take another one.


    “Howard called you.” After setting hisptop aside, Kaiden climbed off the bed.


    “What? Why?” Ellie, nowposed, replied, “I’ll call him back.”


    Kaiden regarded Ellie with an inscrutable expression. Ellie, in her just-awakened state, was oblivious to the man’s unusual demeanor.


    “Howard, you called me?” Ellie called Howard back, unaware of the phone conversation between Kaiden and Howard.


    Howard expressed his need for her photographs.


    “Can’t the poster be designed using only words? I don’t want you to use my photos,” Ellie said.


    Her striking beauty wasn’t always a positive thing, particrly when it had to do with her professional performance. It would easily get people to focus on her face rather than her actual work.

    “Okay,” Howard replied. He just used acquiring her photos as an excuse to have a word with Ellie, but he had no idea that the previous call would be answered by Kaiden.


    “Ellie, I called you three hours ago. It was… Kaiden who answered.” Howard cautiously broached the subject. “Ellie, you and Mr. Thorpe… Are you living together?”


    “Yes, we live together now.”


    Standing by the door, a smile escaped Kaiden as he overheard Ellie’s conversation with Howard.


    Having napped during the afternoon, Ellie found herself unable to sleep in the evening. Instead, she delved into researching information about the Hill family and Marvin.


    “Kaiden, do you have any information on Marvin?” Ellie’s search yielded no fruitful results.


    Returning from the study, Kaiden replied, “No.”


    But in his eyes, Marvin was not a pleasant person.
