    Kaiden, not responding to Nora’s question, simply wheeled himself away, leaving her behind.


    At the party, the guests had assumed Nora was Kaiden’stestpanion. However, Nora was well aware that Kaiden had paid her no mind and that her invitation was a result of Ellie’s influence, not Kaiden’s personal interest.


    Yet, Nora couldn’t help but wonder why Kaiden hadn’t invited Ellie to apany him to the party instead.


    Kaiden was seated in the back of the car, the scent of someone else’s perfume from the party lingering on him, which caused him some annoyance. “Mr. Thorpe, Erick took a photo of you with Nora at the event. I had someone check his phone. Turns out, he sent it to Mrs. Thorpe,” Bruce informed him.


    “And how did she react to it?” Kaiden inquired, his eyes shut. He was aware that Erick, seeing him with another woman, would surely inform Ellie.


    “Who? Mrs. Thorpe?” Bruce replied. “She didn’t react at all.”


    Kaiden’s eyes opened. His face remained cold, but a flicker of irritation was evident. “What’s she up to now?”


    Bruce found this question even more daunting than thest one. “Mrs. Thorpe… She’s currently having ate-night snack with Edwin.” The mood in the car suddenly darkened.


    It waste at night. Ellie, entering the master bedroom quietly, was unexpectedly greeted by the sight of the man asleep on the bed. Lately, Kaiden had either been workingte in the study or returning to the room only after she had fallen asleep.


    The fact that Kaiden was asleep before her made her feel uneasy. She tiptoed to the bathroom to freshen up. But as soon as she got into bed, she was pinned down by a looming figure.


    Startled, Ellie instinctively pushed against Kaiden’s chest and eximed in shock, “Aren’t you asleep?”


    Kaiden could feel her body tense up. It took her a few seconds to rx, but her bodynguage was one of resistance. She was pushing away his advances for intimacy.

    Seeing a photo of Kaiden with Nora had stirred a flicker of jealousy in Ellie, but it didn’tst long. Compared to Carole, Nora seemed insignificant. Moreover, Kaiden had referred to Nora as an actress from her crew, leading Ellie to doubt that he even knew Nora’s real name. This left Ellie puzzled over the intent behind Kaiden’s words.
