Chapter 152

    ?Chapter 152:

Kaiden, momentarily stunned, then remarked, “You are quite delicate.”

His tone seemed to fault her for her fragility.

Ellie’s gaze hardened at Kaiden, her irritation clear. She found his presence unbearable, turning away in annoyance.

The dinner was great, and noticing Ellie still reclined on the rocking chair, Kaiden instructed a servant to summon her to eat.

“Mrs. Thorpe said she’s not feeling well and prefers to dine on the sofa,” the servant said.

Approaching Ellie, Kaiden found her asleep again, marveling at her ability to rest so soundly.

He wondered why she was so exhausted without much physical activity.

Kneeling beside her, Kaiden gently patted her face. “Wake up, Ellie. Eat before you sleep.”

“I don’t want to move,” Ellie mumbled, her eyes closed, her frown betraying annoyance at being disturbed from her slumber.

Before she couldplete her sentence, Ellie realized she was lifted off the sofa.

Startled into awareness, her sore throat prevented any scream from escaping.

Kaiden carried her effortlessly to the dining room, stating, “Eat first, then sleep.”

Gazing up at his striking features, Ellie found herself momentarily mesmerized.

His manner of interaction was peculiarly intriguing.

Yet, she didn’t find it displeasing.

It stirred feelings of fondness in her.

Yawning, Ellie settled at the table, savoring a sip of ginseng chicken soup.

The chicken soup, simmered all afternoon, released a rich, forting aroma. Drinking it, she felt a wave of rxation.

Following a day of rest, she felt revitalized.

“Speaking of which, news about me and Theo has been circting. If you see him, could you apologize on my behalf?” Ellie considered a direct conversation with Theo, but his demanding role as a surgeon made her hesitant to intrude unannounced.

Kaiden paused, setting down his fork, and asked with a frosty tone, “Are you close to Theo?”

Ellie shook her head. “Not particrly. If we were, I wouldn’t have needed your help for grandma’s surgery.” Continuing, she added, “He’s a kind person. I don’t wish to trouble him, especially when he’s been helpful to me.”

Kaiden’s expression clouded at her words of praise for Theo.

“By the way, does Mr. Stephens have a girlfriend? I’m not aware of any,” Ellie realized she hadn’t heard any rumors linking Theo to any woman. “What type of woman does he prefer?”

“Does your throat no longer hurt?” Kaiden set his fork down again, his mood soured.

Why was she so concerned about another man?

Ellie was at a loss for words. Did he not realize that curiosity was natural?
