Chapter 111

    ?Chapter 111:

She understood she didn’t belong with the Gordons. But this ce didn’t feel like hers either.

Once in her room, she remembered the unresolved deal with Kaiden.

She hadn’t yet delivered her end of the bargain.

Ellie was determined not to be indebted to anyone, much like her stance with the Gordon family.

Looking at her reflection, she changed into her robe.

In the study, Bruce concluded his report and added a cautionary note. “Mr. Thorpe, at tonight’s auction, several acquaintances spotted you. Your extravagant spending may draw attention from the Thorpe household.”

Kaiden seemed unconcerned. “Am I not allowed to use my money?”

Bruce hastened to correct himself, “Of course, you are.”

But it was unusual for Kaiden to be sovish with his wealth.

Kaiden’s decision to bring Ellie to the auction was bound to stir controversy, yet he did not care.

The thought that these fools hadn’t suspected him for years amused Kaiden. It was high time they sensed some peril.

After all, only a quarry that reacts to danger truly intrigues a predator.

A knock interrupted them, followed by Ellie’s voice. “Kaiden, can Ie in?”

At Kaiden’s nod, Bruce opened the door.

“Mrs…” He paused, momentarily taken aback, then quickly averted his gaze.

Ellie, just out of the bath, her beauty unadorned, stood there with damp hair falling over her shoulders. Her white silk robe entuated her figure, catching anyone off guard.

Feeling Kaiden’s piercing gaze, Bruce hastily excused himself. “I’ll leave you to it, Mr. Thorpe.”

Kaiden faced Ellie, his expression unreadable.

Ellie, realizing her attire might be too revealing, fidgeted nervously, running her fingers through her hair. “I came looking for you. I didn’t expect Bruce to be here, and, well… I’m properly dressed underneath.”

    Kaiden’s face remained impassive.

Did she think mentioning her proper undergarments would change anything?

“What do you need?” Kaiden reclined in his chair, his gaze settling on Ellie.

Alone with him, her attire seemed strikingly appropriate.

“You… have you finished your work?” Ellie hesitated briefly before asking.

Kaiden’s silent stare urged her to speak her mind.

“Well, I’ll leave you to your tasks,” Ellie said, nning to exit and returnter. She wanted to chicken out now.

But as she turned, Kaiden spoke. “I’m done.”

“Just say what you have to say,” was written all over his face.
