Chapter 45

    ?Chapter 45:

Why was there an empty space?

Her thoughts were interrupted when Erick inquired, “Grandpa, where is Grandma’s urn?”

Immediately, all eyes turned towards Jorge and Kaiden.

Kaiden, eyes downcast, let out a chuckle, as if amused by some private joke.

Erick’s grandmother wasn’t Brisa, but rather Jorge’s first love—the mistress!

“Quiet.” Talon, sensing Jorge’s reluctance to speak, silenced Erick. Erick, looking between Kaiden and Ellie, couldn’t suppress his frustration.

“Grandpa, my father is your own son, and Grandma dedicated her life to you. Doesn’t she deserve a ce here?” His gaze shifted provocatively toward Kaiden. “Is someone jealous?”

Ellie knew the Thorpe family’s turbulent history.

Talon, Erick’s father, was Jorge’s child from a past affair. Talon’s mother had insisted on living in the Thorpes’ house, disrupting Jorge’s married life with Brisa, even attempting to usurp Brisa’s position. How could such a woman, who had torn apart Kaiden’s family, be honored here or receive Kaiden’s respect?

In that moment, Ellie saw Kaiden in a new light: a solitary figure akin to a lone beast atop a mountain. He was untouchable yet profoundly isted, teetering on the brink of an abyss.

The Thorpe family members exchanged nces, their eyes shifting between Talon’s family and Kaiden.

After a tense silence, Kaiden finally dered, “Her ashes can be ced here.”

    Jorge was stunned.

“Fetch my mother’s ashes!” Talon, ted, instructed a maid.

Kaiden spoke again, his tone mischievous yet ominous. “If you dare bring her ashes, I dare to destroy them.”

“How dare you!” Jorge exploded in rage. “You cold, defiant bastard! Why are you so aggressive?”

Kaiden’s smile was barely there, icy and faint.

His threat to destroy the ashes was no idle im.

The ceremony dissolved into chaos, with the ashes of Jorge’s first love staying elsewhere.

As everyone exited the church, Ellie, reflecting on Kaiden’s earlier vulnerability, whispered to him, “Your father removed those ashes intentionally. He still considers your feelings.” Kaiden’s response was a cynical sneer.

Ellie braced herself for his harsh words.

Predictably, Kaiden remarked, “Mrs. Thorpe, don’t overestimate others. If Leo, my brother, hadn’t been overlypassionate, he wouldn’t be reduced to ashes now.”

Jorge had never truly cared for Kaiden. He was more concerned with his image, wanting to avoid a scene at the church.

Suddenly, a shout pierced the air. “Look out!”

A young boy, about six, ran into Kaiden’s wheelchair.

Located on high ground, the church’s exit was a slope, and Kaiden’s wheelchair began hurtling down it.

    “Kaiden!”
