?Chapter 40:
Ellie responded thoughtfully, “It’s reassuring to hear a genuine apology from you.”
Just as Demi exhaled in relief, preparing to leave, Ellie spoke again. “Miss Gordon, it seems you’ve overlooked how your actions nearly caused my husband to be falsely used because of your mistaken vision.”
Demi’s hands balled into fists, her anger teetering on the edge of eruption. Would this woman never stop? Now, she had to apologize to Kaiden, the one person she desperately wanted to avoid?
“Ellie, can’t you see Demi is sick?” Erick had allowed Demi to apologize to Ellie but drew the line when it came to apologizing to Kaiden.
“Really? I hadn’t noticed,” Ellie sneered.
What concern was Demi’s well-being to her?
Demi’s mind wandered, her sense of reason slipping away as a pressing need to leave overwhelmed her. “Mr. Thorpe, I truly…”
“Leave,” Kaiden cut her off sharply, his tone filled with contempt and repulsion. A fool’s apology was nothing but empty noise to him.
Demi’splexion turned ashen. Swallowing the insult, she implored Erick, “Erick, I feel terrible. Let’s go…”
With a stern look at Ellie and Kaiden, Erick helped Demi to her feet and hurried her to his room.
Outside, the night wind stirred the leaves.
Ellie wheeled Kaiden away, sensing his silent expectation for an exnation. He didn’t ask about the events that had transpired, but she could tell he was waiting for her to speak.
Ellie recounted the evening’s events to Kaiden, omitting how Demi had exploited the Thorpe family’s secret. She only mentioned Demi’s approach regarding a particr matter.
At the mention of the drug, Kaiden’s expression darkened, a mix of revulsion and menace crossing his face.
Had Ellie actually consumed the tainted wine and been locked in that room?
Updates loaded at gαlησνe??s
Kaiden would surely hold Demi and the Gordons ountable.
“Was I clear enough?” Ellie asked, seeking his confirmation. She hadn’t received his reaction yet.
Come on! Say something!
Kaiden’s expression reverted to its usual aloofness. He nced up, his lips slightly parted. “Should Imend your cleverness?”
Had she truly been clever, she wouldn’t have ventured out at all.
Ellie found herself at a loss for words. She had indeed been clever! Why couldn’t he acknowledge that?
After they entered the room, Kaiden rose and headed into the bathroom. The sound of water running soon echoed through the space.
Kaiden had a penchant for cleanliness and habitually showered upon returning home.
But then, Ellie realized a major issue.
In this room, there was only one bed!
Her gaze fixed on the lone, sizable mahogany bed. She stood frozen, unsure of what to do. How would they manage sleeping arrangements tonight? Surely Kaiden wouldn’t want to share the bed with her?
