Chapter 37

    ?Chapter 37:

Kaiden, turning a page of his book, answered indifferently, “Sorry, but I’m a jerk. So I won’t be helping you out.”

Damn it! Why did he have to hold grudges? That was days ago!

    What a jerk!

Ellie, frustrated by his stubbornness, clenched her teeth in annoyance. Despite her irritation, she needed his help.

She couldn’t go out naked, and merely wrapping herself in a towel would only attract more attention.

“Mr. Thorpe, I apologize for the other day. You’re my husband, after all. Handsome, smart, fit — the best there is. Surely you can’t really be that big of a jerk?”

    Well, of course he was!

Just because he was her husband didn’t mean he couldn’t be a jerk to her!

The irony of her words wasn’t lost on Kaiden, and his lips formed a small smirk.

Kaiden relented and summoned a maid to retrieve Ellie’s spare clothes. He then brought them to the bathroom door.

Ellie’s hands, delicate and slightly trembling, reached out to take them. She quickly pulled them back, as though fearful of lingering too long and being seen.

Left with an empty palm, Kaiden found himself absentmindedly tracing his fingers where hers had been.

A curious thought crossed his mind about the size of her bra, given her slim appearance.

Emerging from the bathroom, Ellie saw Kaiden seated in his wheelchair, rhythmically tapping the table, his face an indifferent mask yet with a trace of inquiry.

He seemed to be silently asking how she got wet in the first ce.

“I identally fell into the pond,” Ellie exined.

At that moment, she heardmotion outside.

    The show had just begun!

“I need to check something,” she said, making her way to the door. However, Kaiden extended his leg from the wheelchair, effectively blocking her path.

His eyebrows raised, indicating that he expected more of an exnation.

Ellie, eager to see the oue of Demi’s scheme, paused. “Mr. Thorpe, would you like to join me? There’s a spectacle unfolding outside.” Her voice held a hint of yfulness, while her expression remained innocently deceptive.

Kaiden, tapping the armrest, silently indicated for Ellie to push his wheelchair.

Outside, the corridor was abuzz with activity. A crowd had gathered near the room where Ellie and Demi had their encounter, their voices filled with excitement and curiosity.

Inside the room, Demi’s voice echoed in panic. “How is this possible? Where’s Ellie? I saw her here… I saw her here with a man. Where is she?”

“What nonsense are you talking about? I was the only one in here, just sleeping peacefully, and then you all stormed in!” A voice, slurred and irate, boomed through the room. It sounded like a man who had been rudely awakened from a drunken slumber.

Understandably, anyone would be annoyed at being awakened so abruptly, especially in such a manner.
