“Lung cancer.”
After saying those two words, Dawn’s eyes turned red. “About Austin’s illness, I want to hear the most truthful diagnosis.”
Jerrod looked at Osbert again. He hesitated, but in the end he couldn’t resist the pressure Dawn’s gaze and let out a deep sigh.
in
“Ms. Porter, Mr. Osborne didn’t want you to know because he was protecting you. We all understand him.”
But Dawn didn’t move at all.
“I already know now. So just tell me.”
Since she had said this much, they couldn’t hide it anymore. Jerrod slowly took a medical file from the cab and handed it to her.
Inside there were many test reports, but Dawn could only understand the general idea.
“Based on the timeline, Mr. Osborne’s lung cancer is already in thete stage and has begun to spread. The surgical risk is very high. The overall sess rate is only 20 percent.”
“What does ‘high risk‘ mean?”
Jerrod sighed.
“Ms. Porter, this type of difficult surgery has a chance of sess, but also a chance of failure. And with Mr. Osborne’s current condition, the surgery cannot be done immediately. The treatment process itself would also be very painful.”
That was why many people would rather give up treatment than suffer more for such a small
chance.
Jerrod continued exining many professional details. Dawn didn’t understand most of it, but she still caught the key point.
“So, his decision to give up makes sense.”
“Yes.”

Jerrod saw the dazed look in Dawn’s eyes and felt a little sorry for her, but since he had started, he finished everything.
“Also, the technology here isn’t mature yet, so he would need surgery overseas. But even then, the risk cannot be avoided. If you really care about him, you should spend more time with him. In a situation like this, nothing is more important than familypany.”
Dawn didn’t even realize how she walked out of the hospital.
Standing at the entrance, she only felt the gloomy weather outside was unbearable.
Osbert stood silently nearby, unable tofort her.
After a long time, Dawn finally steadied herself and said angrily, “Let’s go home.”
In the end, it was a question with no answer.
After returning home, she stayed silent. Sandra asked a few concerned questions but got nothing. That night when Ethan came back, she quietly told him, “Ethan, Dawn seems to be hiding something, but she won’t say a word. You should check on her.”
“Sandra, she just hasn’t rested well these past two days. One good sleep will fix it.”
“Really?”
“Yes.” Ethan said gently, “Thank you. I’ll go see her.”
He went upstairs and saw Dawn sitting cross–legged on the couch with aptop, carefully reading information. When he looked closer, almost all of it was medical cases and research about lung cancer.
“You’re back?” She nced up briefly, then looked back at the screen.
She didn’t look depressed. Instead, she seemed strangely energized.
“You’re studying?” Ethan sat beside her and naturally put an arm around her while reading with her. “Wow, you’re even reading research papers now. Impressive.”
“What nonsense are you saying?” Dawn rolled her eyes. “I just want to see how many sessful cases there are forte–stage lung cancer after it spreads.”
“Did you find an answer?”

Dawn sighed. Her mind was a mess. “There are sessful lung transnt cases overseas, but those were before full spread. Austin now…
She didn’t finish, but Ethan understood.
“I finally understand why he’s so determined.”
Now it seemed the surgery really might not be worth doing.
Dawn bit her lip and slowly closed theptop. Then she spoke very softly. “Do we really have no way out at all?”
“Dawn.” Ethan sighed. He didn’t know whether she would ept hisfort, but endless worry wouldn’t help.
“This is Austin’s decision. No matter how much we try, the final choice is his. If he wants to peacefully live his remaining days, we stay with him and fulfill his wishes. If he wants treatment, we do everything we can to help him through it.”
Maybe the ending still wouldn’t be good, but that was life.
Living was one result. Leaving was also a result.
Dawn rubbed her face with both hands. In the quiet room, only her breathing could be heard. After a long time, she spoke softly, “I know. I just…”
She just couldn’t ept it.
Austin was such a kind person.
He adopted her back then just because he saw her crying. For years he had done charity work, yet now he had to suffer this much pain.
