Behind him, his assistant Alice stood with wless restraint.

They arrived in Trifton yesterday, and the moment theynded, they cast a wide for Anna. But it was as if she evaporated. There wasn’t a single clue.
Leon didn’t speak. A tempest rolled through his dark eyes.
After a long pause, he turned.
His voice was cold and level. “What position is the Winsors taking?”
“Hubert’s run out of options. He’s ying the victim online, iming Ms. Alice is ungrateful, saying she broke the family apart, and insisting she wants to sever ties just because he tried to reason with her.”
Hubert’s y wasn’t only meant to corner Anna. Underneath it all, he was nting insurance.
If the forced marriage ever exploded, he could still package it as acting for her benefit.
Leon gave a soft, mockingugh. “If he craves attention that badly, then throw more fuel on the fire.”
Alice lowered her head. “Yes.”
That afternoon, the uproar around the Winsors spiraledpletely out of control.
Anna’s situation was dissected from every angle online. Hubert’s mistress and hidden son were exposed too, nowhere left to
conceal them.
Dawn heard the news and immediately knew Leon was behind it.
Tony studied her face. “Do you want us to step in?”
Dawn thought for a moment, then said, “No.”
If Leon wanted to wade into that swamp, let him. It was the perfect way to keep Hubert tied up.
“How has Anna been these past few days?”
“Pretty good. It’s just that the hill gives off a creepy vibe.”
Tony didn’t understand. With so many options, why would Alice pick an abandoned resort in the middle of nowhere?
There were guards, sure, but the ce still unsettled him.
“Maybe she wants peace and quiet.”
Dawn said, “Once Uncle Austin is discharged, I’ll go see her. Watch things closely for me until then. I’m afraid I might miss something.”
Austin’s injuries hadn’t fully recovered. To force him to rest, Osborne Group’s work somehow piled onto Ethan instead.

So even after returning to Trifton, Ethan stayed busier than he’d ever been in Northville. He was barely home.
That night, Dawn went to the hospital.
She was just about to enter the ward when voices floated out.
“I already said you can’t leave.”
“You’re a bodyguard. Since when do you get to order me around? Move.”
“You can’t leave.”

Austin was on the verge of snapping at the man’s frozen routine. He repeated the same two sentences like a broken record. His arm never shifted as he blocked the door. But Dawn assigned him, so Austin couldn’t really throw a punch.
“Fine, call Dawn. I’ll talk to her myself.”
Donald sounded casual, but his tone didn’t budge. “I don’t have her number.”
“You-”
Just as Austin was about to explode, Dawn stepped in, smiling lightly. “He really doesn’t have my number
iming he had no phone was an exaggeration, but Donald liked quiet. His phone stayed on silent, and he never saved contacts. Whether he answered was a matter of chance.
Expecting him to dig Dawn’s number out of a jumble of digits was unrealistic.
Donald nced at her and stayed silent.
“Perfect timing.”
Austin couldn’t hold it anymore. He lowered his voice. “I want to leave.”
Before Dawn replied, he spread his arms. “Look at me. Do I look sick? If I stay here any longer, I’ll start growing fungus.”
Honestly, Dawn almost burst outughing.
He was only eight years older than her, yet he’d always been severe. Not like this version, irritated but holding back, helpless like a prematurely aging man.
Thinking that, she actuallyughed.
Her brows and eyes curved like a thin crescent moon. Her face was striking beyond words.
Austin looked away, turned his back, and let out a slow breath. When he faced her again, the corners of his mouth had lifted too.
“Alright, I came to check on you.” Dawn cleared her throat and forced a serious look. “If you’re fine, then let’s go home together”
“We’ll go home together.”
Those words mmed into his chest like a heavy stone.
Maybe days ago, or even earlier, there was still a faint ember in Austin’s heart. But after returning to Trifton, watching Dawn with

Ethan, there was nothing left to hold on to.
Especially in his current state.
Seeing her happy was enough.
“Okay.” Austin’s gaze grew deep. “We’ll go home together.”
Dawn told Donald to handle the discharge, and they headed downstairs.
While waiting for the elevator, her eyes shifted and caught sight of Osbert stepping out of a nearby doctor’s office.
“Eh?”
Dawn murmured, confused, “Didn’t we alreadyplete the discharge? What’s Osbert doing here?”
