Chapter 660 Choosing the Edge

    Chapter 660 Choosing the Edge.

“Isn’t this the best way to make Leon give uppletely?”

Dawn saw the stubborn spark in her eyes and found herself at a loss for words.

In the end, she only managed to say hoarsely, “Anna, I know I can’t truly stand where you stand or feel what you feel, but I hope you think more about yourself. Leon isn’t the key issue. What your uncle said is only a suggestion. You’re what matters.”

If you abandon yourself, then nothing else really matters.

Anna pressed her colorless lips together and stayed silent.

Dawn remained with her for a while, feeling the heavy pressure suffocating the room.

How could anyone endure blow after blow like this?

She thought going home meant finding shelter, only to discover another void waiting.

Anna knew Dawn cared, but she truly did not want to keep fighting.

“Dawn, go home. I just want to be alone for a while.”

    “But…”

“No exceptions. Don’t worry, I won’t do anything foolish again.”

Her gaze was steady, not the look of someone lying.

Dawn let out a long breath. “All right, but promise me this. If anything happens, call me immediately. Don’t carry it alone. Can you promise?”

    “I can. I promise.”

With that assurance, Dawn finally left.

As she went downstairs, she noticed the expressions on Anna’s parents‘ faces, one guarded and tense, the other swallowing unspoken words.

She acted as if she saw nothing and left with a polite smile.

The instant she stepped outside, Hubert shouted upstairs, “Anna,e down here now!”

Her mother’s eyes reddened again. “Why are you yelling? I already told you. If my daughter wants to marry, she will. If she doesn’t, no one will force her. Otherwise I’ll die right here, do you hear me?”

    “Oh, now you’re threatening me?”

Hubert gave a coldugh. “If you die, you won’t be able to control her at all!”

    “You…”

Pain pierced Anna’s mother’s chest, and the housekeeper quickly helped her onto the couch when things turned serious.

Anna came downstairs and saw her mother’s face drained of color. She turned and demanded, “What did you do to her?”

“That’s how you speak to your father?” Hubert raged, pointing a finger at her, breathing hard. “How did I raise such a disobedient daughter? You dare ask what’s wrong with your mother? Aren’t you the one pushing her to this point? If you caused us less worry, none of this would be happening!”

Anna clenched her hands at her sides. Her voice fell low. “What do you want?”

Hubert took several deep breaths and sat down.

    He looked at Anna.

After so long, his daughter seemed changed. In the past, she would have exploded and ignored the consequences.

Now she could ask him calmly, and that alone felt like progress.

“You heard what your aunt said. That’s where our family stands now. As my daughter, you have a duty to help thepany expand. And this is for your benefit. No matter who you marry, everything will still be yours. You…”

    “I’ll do it.”

The answer was so direct that Hubert froze.

Her mother, however, felt her heart break. She rushed over and held her daughter’s hand, her voice trembling. “Anna, my child. You don’t have to hurt yourself like this.”

“Mom.” Anna squeezed her hand back, calm like the quiet after a storm. “I’m fine. Look at these men. Aren’t they all the same? If the ending doesn’t change, I might as well take control myself.”

At least then, she could choose.

Her mother did not know how to respond.

Her own marriage was a failure, so she could not bring herself to offerforting lies.

To Hubert, though, it felt like the night before a celebration. He immediately began arranging blind dates, one each day, eager to settle on a match and rush it to marriage.

Dawn learned about it on the third day, through Sandra.

“That girl from the Winsors is acting like she’s lost her mindtely.”

At the time, Dawn sat in the garden with Sandra, shelling edamame,

It took her a moment to realize that the girl mentioned meant Anna.

Her hands paused. “Mom, you mean Anna?”

    “Yes.”

Sandra lowered her voice. “Everyone’s gossiping. That girl is going on blind dates nonstop. Old or unattractive, as long as the family has status, her father invites them over. She’s meeting several in one day.”

    “So did she choose anyone?”

“Not yet, from what I heard.”

Sandra knew they were close, so she sighed. “She’s such a beautiful girl. She could have married well. How did she end up with a father like that?”

In Sandra’s view, a political marriage was no different from selling a daughter.

And what the Winsors was doing now made many people ufortable to watch.

Dawn didn’t respond. She quietly continued shelling beans.

Maybe that was how Anna saw it at the beginning too.

Too bad Leon didn’t save her. He pushed her into something even darker instead.
