Chapter 657 The Missing Link
Chapter 657 The Missing Link
Austin had reached the end of his patience. He lifted his hand and knocked hers away.
“Cheap tricks like that don’t belong in the daylight.”
“Who cares whether they belong in the daylight?“.
Sydney’s red lips curved upward. “As long as they work.

“I’m not afraid to tell you the truth–every move you make is under my watch. Dawn has a daughter now, doesn’t she?”
She leaned close to Austin’s ear, lowering her voice into a ghostly whisper. “Believe it or not, all it takes is one phone call from me right now, and she and her daughter will both go… bang.”
Thatst pop sounded like the Devil’s gunshot.
Seeing the man’s expression finally crack, Sydney was satisfied atst.
“So, think it through. If you want to leave this room, I can’t stop you–but can you bear the consequences? And tell the people downstairs to get the hell out. I hate the feeling of being watched.”
Especially being watched by people she despised.
Austin didn’t speak. His eyes were like a boundless forest at night, fog rolling endlessly through it.
One second. Two seconds.
Time crept forward, inch by inch.
Sydney was patient. Arms crossed, she stood to the side, watching him with genuine interest as she waited for his answer.

“Heh.” A short, coldugh slipped from the man’s lips. “You really are delusional.”
With that, Austin turned and walked out–without pausing for even a heartbeat.
“Austin, don’t you dare!
“Are you really going to abandon Dawn? Do you believe me when I say I can have her kidnapped right now–do you?”
“Austin…!”
The woman’s shrill voice faded farther and farther behind him.
Austin didn’t stop. The dim ceiling lights spilled over his figure, casting him in half shadow.
He went straight downstairs, pulled open the door of Ethan’s car, and got inside.
“How did it go?”
He let out a heavy breath. “Not much to say. She’spletely lost her mind. By the way… did you take care of things on Dawn’s end?”

“Yeah.”
From his tone alone, Ethan already grasped the situation.
“Don’t worry. I’ve arranged people in the shadows. There won’t be any danger.”
Austin had to admit that, just now, he really had hesitated for those two seconds. He had nothing left to fear himself; the only things that could still shake him were Dawn and Dulce.
But once he calmed down, he realized he had been overthinking it.
Dawn wasn’t a fool.
And besides, she had Ethan by her side.
No matter what, he had to trust them.
Ethan nced out the window, then took out his phone and texted his friends in the other car, telling them they could head back.
“Normal measures won’t pin her down. But now that we’ve found her trail, the rest… should be handled by us.”
Once the police car left, the bodyguards emerged from the shadows.
Their sheer presence startled the front–desk owner badly.
“Y–you… what are you doing?”
“Looking for someone. Don’t be nervous, boss.” Austin smiled faintly, slipping a wad of cash into the man’s pocket without a sound. “Rx. We’ll leave as soon as we find them. We won’t cause any trouble.”
Who would ever turn down money?
The owner immediately became cooperative, even asking if they needed help.
As they spoke, the bodyguards had already gone upstairs to search, but someone soon ran back down. “Mr. Jackson–they’re gone!”
After ordering the team to give chase, Austin’s gazended on the owner.
“Were the people in 714 and 715 together?”
The owner froze for a moment.
“Uh… let me check.”
He ba
ouse before answering, “Right–I remember now. They dide in together. I even thought they looked
around here… you know how it is. Business isn’t good. We can’t exactly turn people away.”
mbarrassed, scratching his head.
Looks like you were right. She came fully prepared. Chasing them now probably won’t get us anywhere.”
m was wide open, so they could have fled in any direction.

They must have scouted the area beforehand, which raised the difficulty to another level.

A thoughtful look crossed Ethan’s eyes as he said in a low voice, “Back to Trifton. Since Sydney’s current target is you, she won’t just let this go. If we return to Trifton, she’ll follow.”
Going back would at least let them keep an eye on Dawn.
Ethan thought this was the best option, yet to his surprise, Austin didn’t respond immediately.
“What is it? Do you have reservations?”
“No.”
A dark glint shed through his eyes. “Then, let’s head back to Trifton.”
They both had work to line up, so they booked flights for two dayster.
Meanwhile, on the other side, Dawn’s eyelid had been twitching nonstop for the past two days, leaving her the uneasy feeling that something was about to happen.
But whenever she asked Ethan, he insisted that nothing was wrong.
There was no unusual news from Austin either.
So, where was the missing link?
