Dawn stuffed everything into the suitcase, then sat down in front of the vanity and let out a heavy breath.

Dawn’s breathing suddenly grew heavy. Her eyes reddened. Those memories surged like a violent tide, nearly drowning her.
She dug her nails into her palm, forcing herself to stay calm.

Micah quietly let out a breath of relief. He reached up and fixed her hair, muttering, “Dawn, you’re so pretty. Don’t mess yourself up like some loser. You’ve got an image to maintain. The family’s future looks are riding on you.”

Dawn rolled her eyes.
They chatted about nothing. Both of them knew they were just trying to distract themselves.
They had no clue whether it worked or not. But at least the room wasn’t so quiet.

Dawn didn’t have the energy to joke with him. She looked away and said nothing.
Ethan’s dark eyes didn’t blink as he watched her as if trying to see straight into her heart. “Dawn, I’ve never understood this. One minute, you said you wanted to get married, and the next you said you didn’t, and you wanted to break up. Am I just someone you can toss aside- whenever you want?”
