Cheating 108

Derek, who was vacationing in Norway, suddenly felt an overwhelming sense of emptiness.

Like sand slipping through his fingers, like peach blossoms withering into dust, like a heart being torn in half.

    Had he lost something?

As time passed, this unease grew stronger and stronger.

He finally couldn’t stand it anymore. He shot up with a loud bang, knocking over his chair, and said to Ashley, “I need to go back home right now. Sorry Ashley, I can’t stay with you. I’ll make it up to you next time.”

Ashley panicked and tried her usual tricks. “Derek, I have something really important to tell you tonight…”

“Nothing’s that important – we’ll talk next time!”

This time, Derek’s attitude was unusually firm. So firm that he ran out without even ncing at Ashley again.

He didn’t know why, but his subconscious seemed to be telling him that if he waited any longer, he’d never see a certain someone again.

And that person was the most precious thing in his life, someone he absolutely couldn’t lose.

After getting off the ne, he drove frantically back to the house, rushing to open the door only to find it pitch ck inside.

No lights, no people, no sounds.

A terrible feeling rose in his chest.

He rushed into the bedroom, but there was no one in bed, and even all the clothes in the closet had vanished.

It was like the entire house had lost all traces of Kate’s existence overnight.

He was panicking as he fumbled with his phone several times before dialing the right number, but when the call went through, he heard, “The number you have dialed is out of service.”

Not turned off – out of service… Damn it! What happened to Kate? Where did she go!

He nearly broke down, hands shaking as he pulled out his phone to have his security check the surveince footage.

“Check it! Check everything! From the day she came back from vacation, go through every single day of footage until it’s crystal clear!”

    He practically screamed those words.

Tears flowed freely as he desperately hoped this was all just a nightmare, that he’d wake up and Kate would still be by his side.

    The surveince footage came up.

On screen, Kate came home the first day with bags and packages, but left empty–handed.

The second day, Kate took a pile of papers and burned them under the tree for a full half hour.

The third day… Derek gritted his teeth and asked, “Where’s the third day’s footage? Why is it gone?”

The security guard stammered nervously. “The third day’s surveince seems to have been deliberately destroyed. We’ve tried everything but can’t recover the data…”

It was Kate – she’d intentionally destroyed the surveince before leaving because she didn’t want him to find her.

Did she hate him that much? Couldn’t stand to see him for even another moment?

He closed his eyes in despair, letting the tears flow.

“Miss Kate, this is your attending physician, Dr. Poter. He’ll be taking over your case from here.”

In a hospital room in Singapore, Katey in bed. Tomorrow she would undergo surgery.

If the operation went well, her memories would slowly return.

Thinking about this, she finally felt at peace, and at the same time couldn’t wait.

She’d been living under the false identity of “Derek’s wife” for so long – now she just wanted to figure out who she really was.

A video was ying in the hospital room.

The man on screen was handsome with refined features, wearing a sharp suit, standing tall like a pine tree. Most importantly, Kate felt a strong sense of familiarity the moment she saw him.

As if she’d seen him long ago.

“Girl, you don’t know him? That’s the CEO of Hayes Group, James Hayes. Their business spans the entire country – when Hayes Group moves, countlesspanies follow!”

Thedy in the next bed chatted enthusiastically while Kate politely responded, “Oh.”

    Actually, she wasn’t very interested.

Someone with that kind of power and status – she’d never have any connection to someone like that in this lifetime.

That afternoon she was walking in the hospital corridor when she unexpectedly ran into James.

That sense of déjà vu grew even stronger.

She was about to approach him to ask if they’d met before when everything started spinning and she fainted.

James suddenly stopped in his tracks.

Something made him turn around, but he saw nothing.

His secretary asked, “Mr. Hayes, what is it?”

James shook his head. “Nothing. We need to find who we’re looking for. Let’s go.”

The surgery took a full seven hours.

When Kate woke up, her head was pounding as memories flooded back into her mind.

She was the youngest daughter of the Sullivan family in Cloud City. Her biological parents were the local wealthiest family.
