Smiling, Anneliese picked up her bowl of chicken porridge and took a few sips before her phone rang again.
It was the same unfamiliar number.
This time, she answered it. Then, an unfamiliar woman''s voice came through.
"Hello, is this Anneliese?"
"I am. May I ask who you are?"
"Anneliese, sorry to bother you. I''m Aunt Martha. We met at the Fullbuster Residence before. Do you remember me?"
Anneliese paused slightly.
During thest New Year, Jonathan had taken her to the Fullbuster Residence. At the time, she had been kidnapped and had an injury on her head, so she only met his rtives briefly. She vaguely remembered Martha as a slightly plump woman with a gentle demeanor, but they hadn''t spoken much.
However, Martha''s daughter, Felyxia, had been lively and had run upstairs into the room, chatting endlessly with Anneliese. It was Felyxia who had identally revealed that Jonathan once painted a portrait of his first love.
Later, Felyxia called Anneliese, crying to apologize that she hadn''t meant it. She alsoined that Jonathan had heartlessly assigned her to work during the New Year because of this. She was sent with the Fullbuster Group to visit nursing homes, forcing her to y the guitar for elderly residents for five days until her fingers turned red and swollen.
Anneliese''s impression of Martha wasn''t bad. She also remembered that Martha had given her a pair of gold bracelets as a meeting gift.
Although surprised that Martha would contact her, Anneliese still responded warmly. "Hello, Aunt Martha. Of course, I remember you."
Martha didn''t engage in much small talk. She said she hade from Halden to visit friends and happened to have some free time, so she asked Anneliese if thetter would like to go shopping together.
Her tone was gentle and polite. Anneliese found it hard to refuse and agreed. After quickly finishing breakfast, she carried Ellie and went out.
Half an hourter, Anneliese entered the private room where they had agreed to meet. Holding Ellie''s hand, she walked in and saw two women seated at a table near the window.
One, wearing a white dress and slightly plump, was Martha. She immediately smiled when she heard the door.
On the other hand, the woman
sitting opposite Martha had her back to the door. She wore a dark purple cashmere dress her back straight hair in a near bun. Heating the movement, she turned her head slightly.
It was Elizabeth.
Anneliese''s steps paused. She immediately understood that this wasn''t just a simple get-together invitation.
As Martha nced at the unmoving
Elizabeth, she silently criticized her stubborn pride. After all, was
Elizabeth who had asked he
invite Anneliese to ease rtions, so
why put on such an act now?
However, Martha didn''t have any choice. After all, Elizabeth had offered a painting that she adored, so it was too tempting to refuse.
Martha stood up and walked toward Anneliese. "Anneliese, you''re here. Why did you bring a child along?"
She smiled enthusiastically, so Anneliese couldn''t exactly turn and leave. Seeing Ellie hide behind her, she crouched tofort the child, using the motion to avoid Martha''s outstretched hand.
"This is my friend''s daughter. I''m helping to take care of her for the day."
Martha''s smile stiffened for a
moment at Anneliese''s cool attitude, but she quickly recovered her
fully recovered? Did the injury or
your head feave a scar? I own a cosmetic hospital, so you can tell me if you need treatment..."
Anneliese smiled and shook her head. "It''s already healed. Thank you for asking, Aunt Martha."
As she spoke, Martha guided her to the table. Anneliese seated Ellie on herp and looked up meeting Elizabeth''s gaze.
Elizabeth lifted her teacup, took a sip, and said, "Have you forgotten how to greet people?"
Thest time Elizabeth had barged into the Banyans, things had ended terribly between her and Jonathan, and she had also humiliated herself in front of Anneliese.
