Chapter 571

His words were dripping with jealousy.

Jonathan truly held deep resentment over this, and the regret in his eyes grew even heavier.

He wished that he had insisted on taking Anneliese away back then. If he did that, how would Zacharias ever have a chance? Plus, Anneliese also wouldn''t have had to suffer so much.

Hearing his words, Anneliese was speechless. She wanted to argue, but she then realized she had indeed been deceived by Zacharias since she was little, as she thought about Meatloaf.

When she remembered how she had indeed forgotten about Jonathan, guilt rose in her chest, and she didn''t know what to say. After some time, she muttered softly, "I remember everything now."

"Oh? What do you remember?" Jonathan curled a strand of her hair around his finger and gave it a gentle tug.

Anneliese tilted her head and rested her cheek against his chest. Then, she said, "I remember biting you that day, seeing you at the hospital, anding to my parents'' memorial. When I came out of the martyrs'' cemetery, I saw you from far away too..."

    She remembered it all.

In the hospital morgue, her grandmother had fainted from crying over her parents'' bodies. Everyone rushed over in chaos. No one noticed her curled up in the corner outside, hugging her knees and trembling as she cried silently.

At that moment, a boy in a hospital gown noticed her.

He crouched in front of her and put his hand wrapped in gauze to her. Then, he opened his palm and revealed two pieces of candy.

Anneliese looked up and saw it was him. Then, she shoved him away, causing the candies to fall onto the floor. She stood up and stomped on the candy before running off.

She still remembered how shocked and sad he was that day when she pushed him

    over.

Thinking of this, she bit her lip in confusion. "I bit you the first time we met. Then, I crushed your candy and pushed you over the second time. Later at the memorial, Grandma drove you out.

"On the day of the funeral, you weren''t allowed into the cemetery. After going through all these, shouldn''t you hate me?"

Anneliese doubted that Jonathan imed it wasn''t out of gratitude or guilt. After all, she used to treat him like that, so he shouldn''t have had a good impression of her at all. If not for her father saving him or the guilt in him, how could he remember her? How could he possibly have developed feelings for her?

Just as Anneliese was deep in thought, Jonathan tugged her hair again. "Maybe it''s because I had never seen such a fierce yet crybaby. That''s why I kept thinking about you."

Hearing his words, Anneliese flushed with embarrassment. She swatted his hand away and pulled her hair free from his fingers. Then, she rolled over and said, "I''m going to sleep."

Jonathan chuckled softly and rolled over too, hugging her from behind. "Goodnight, my dear."

Initially, she thought she wouldn''t be able to sleep, but surprisingly, the moment she closed her eyes, she fell into a deep sleep. She even had a dream.

In her dream, Frederick was holding Nak, and Nak was carrying her baby brother. They all looked so happy. She ran toward them, and Frederick caught her. Then, he led her to a handsome boy in a white shirt and ck trousers.

"Didn''t you say you wanted a younger and older brother? Now you have a younger brother, Thave found you an older brother too. What do you think of him?"

Anneliese looked up and blushed when she saw the handsome boy. "Will you protect me?"

The boy took her hand from Frederick and smiled brightly.

    "I will."

Hearing this, Anneliese was delighted. Just as she turned around and was about to share it with her parents that she finally had an older brother she realized her parents, who had been fight beside her were suddenly so far away. They were fading, and their smiles blurred into the distant light.

"No! Daddy! Mommy! Don''t go!" She cried and ran after them, but Frederick only waved at her with a gentle smile.

"Anne, we are going to live somewhere very far away. Go with your brother."

    "No!"

Anneliese woke up with a startled cry.

Jonathan was no longer beside her, and she noticed the morning light seeped through the ckout curtains.

    It was already morning.

She raised her hand and touched the corner of her eyes. It was damp. The dream

had felt so real that she was still dazed.

Just then, someone knocked on the door.

Anneliese quickly got out of bed and walked over. When she opened the door, she

found the young nurse standing outside.

"Mrs. Fullbuster, the patient wanted to see you."

    "Is Grandma awake?!"

Overjoyed, Anneliese rushed out. However, after taking just two steps, she suddenly stopped.
