"She''s actually Mnie''s daughter, Anneliese sighed.

"She''s in college over in Madfell now. Last night, I took your toothbrush and cup to Zion. He ran a DNA test overnight. It''s not that I didn''t want to tell you-l only just got the final confirmation myself. You''re not rted to the White family by blood."

Jonathan had already stationed someone to keep an eye on Selina. The moment he heard Selina had gone to see Anneliese, worry drove him out of the office to find her.

A short while earlier, he had spotted her sitting alone in the car, staring nkly ahead. She looked so small and lost. In that instant, he understood that Selina must have told her the truth.

"Has she been doing okay all these years?" Anneliese asked suddenly.

Jonathan hesitated for a moment before realizing she was talking about the real daughter of the White family, Sylvia Pord.

He gently brushed a hand through her hair. "Sylvia is doing well. The old couple who raised her run a few small restaurants. They''re well-off, they get along great, and they treat her with genuine care. She''s a senior at Madfell University now, and her adoptive parents even bought her a small apartment in the city."

Anneliese''s lips curved into a faint smile. "That''s good."

She had never met Sylvia, but she had once lived in her ce, so she could easily picture what she must have gone through.

Sylvia should have grown up in a happy, fortable home, but she was stolen away by her father''s mistress right after birth. Thankfully, the old couple had loved her deeply. Looking back, perhaps it was a blessing in disguise.

Anneliese lifted her gaze to Jonathan and smiled softly. "She''s just like me. She found loving adoptive parents too."

Jonathan patted her head again. "Still feeling upset?"

She pressed her lips together, shook her head, and stayed quiet for a moment before speaking.

"It''s not exactly sadness. At the very least, I should be d. I don''t have a drop of the White family''s selfish blood in me. I''m not one of them anymore. All the unfair treatment and suffocating expectations can finally farle away. They bullied me, and I gave it all back. There''s nothing left to be upset about. Still, I feel angry and empty. It''s like my entire life has been a cruel joke."

Jonathan kissed her gently on the forehead and rubbed her back with a steady hand. He understood. She had never known she wasn''t truly part of the White family, so every hope, disappointment, insult, and stretch of numb time had been real. She had endured it all.

She had finally escaped their tangled mess, only to discover she had never belonged to it in the first ce. That sense of being tricked by fate was impossible to shrug off

She wasn''t their daughter, which meant her biological parents were still somewhere out there. Once again, she was an orphan with no clear past. Feeling lost and unsettled was only natural.

Jonathan wrapped his arms around her. "I''ll always be here for you. We have our own home now. Whether you want to keep searching for your real family or let it go, I''ll support you either way. You''re not alone anymore. Don''t be afraid."

His deep, gentle voice filled the back seat. He didn''t rely on fancy words. His calm, steady tone alone was enough to give her strength.

Anneliese''s eyes grew misty. Her heart skipped a beat, and she hugged him tightly, sniffling.

    "You''re so annoying."

Her feelings for him grew stronger every day. She liked him more and more-and that frightened her just a little.

Her soft, slightly nasal voice carried a yful lilt. Jonathan smirked. "Tsk, you little brat."

Anneliese lifted her head from his chest, leaned in, and kissed him on the lips. "Am I still a little brat now?"

Jonathan raised an eyebrow, but before he could answer, she climbed onto hisp. She wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him again, this time taking the initiative.

He closed his eyes and leaned back, resisting the urge to take control. He let her lead and enjoy the moment. He was almost too sweet about it. No matter what she did, he epted it without hesitation.

Anneliese grew bolder with each kiss, savoring the thrill of being the one in charge. Her fingers toyed with his tie as daring thoughts flickered through her mind.
