    When the car came to a halt, Anneliese shifted and grasped Jonathan''s hand. She asked gently, "Do you want toe with me and visit Grandma?”


    Jonathan smiled. "I didn''t bring anything for her, and I''ve got back-to-back meetings this afternoon. Today''s already been chaos.” She knew he wasn''t lying. The moment things had spiraled online, he''d dropped everything that morning-calls, meetings, deadlines-just to rush to her side. He''d been handling her mess all day. The least she could do was let him breathe.


    She tried to smile. “Next time, then. Go handle work. I''ll be fine."


    She reached for the door handle, but his hand caught her wrist.


    She blinked and turned back, thinking maybe he''d changed his mind.


    He hesitated for a second, then pulled her close and pressed a kiss to her hair. "Thanks for understanding, honey."


    Her chest tightened. She nodded, exited the car, and watched his Bentley leave the hospital entrance. An unfamiliar unease settled in her-something she couldn''t quite identify. She shrugged it off and rushed inside.


    When she reached Nishay''s ward, she found Jessica sitting by the bed, keeping her grandmotherpany. The two wereughing at a cheesy TV show, the sound warm and familiar.

    "Grandma! I''m here!" she called out brightly. "Did you miss me?"

    Jessica wrapped an arm around the old woman and shed a smug grin. "Yeah, Grandma''s got me. You''ve been reced."


    Anneliese caught Jessica''s quick wink-her way of saying the coast was clear. Nishay clearly hadn''t seen any of the online drama..


    Relieved, Anneliese slid onto the bed and clung to her grandma''s other arm. "No way. Grandma, tell her you missed me even just a little!"


    With both girls clinging to her, Nishay finally broke intoughter.


    They chatted for a while until Nishay appeared sleepy. When shey down to rest, the two girls quietly left the room.


    The second the door closed, Jessica tugged Anneliese toward the stairwell.
