Chapter 381 Hatred or Indifference
But what about Anneliese?
s
She plotted our divorce, rushed into a sh marriage with Jonathan, unted their love in public, dragged Selina’s mother and sister into police custody, and <ist night let Jonathan tear our home apart. She’s so cold, so heartless.
Yet, Selina stays by my side and guides me.
A flicker of struggle and fury crossed Zacharias‘ eyes as he suddenly pulled Selina into his arms. “Selina, I will take responsibility for you!”
Selina’s dampshes trembled as she opened her eyes. “No! This won’t do. You’re Anne’s ex- husband. If she finds out we’re together, she’ll never ept it. She might even hate you!”
She shook her head, panicked.
Zacharias‘ attractive eyes glowed red, his heart stirred, and his expression hardened with determination.
“She’s just my ex–wife. What happens between us has nothing to do with her!
“I’ll get the water ready. Then, I’ll carry you in for a soak.”
Zacharias kissed Selina, set her down, and headed toward the bathroom. If Anneliese cares at all. she won’t ept me with Selina. Will Anneliese hate me? Hatred is better than indifference–or being forgotten.
On the bed, Selina watched Zacharias‘ retreating figure, her earlier uncertainty fading, reced entirely by a cold resolve. Anneliese took my man; now I’ve taken her ex–husband in return. She hugged the nket to herself, sat up, and finally powered on her phone.
Almost immediately, it pinged incessantly–numerous missed calls and WhatsApp messages flooded in.
Selina was about to open WhatsApp to check when another call came through.
Sensing urgency, she answered immediately. “Christopher?”
“Mom’s been hospitalized again. You need toe over right now.”

Selina frowned, gripping her phone. What’s going on? Christopher is usually so talkative and never this curt. He always lets me end the call–never the other way around.
Zacharias had brought Selina to the hospital.
She hurried to the ward, adjusting her expression before stepping in, her face now etched with
concern.
“Mom! Perseus, Christopher, what happened to Mom?”
She froze at the sight of Mnie lying on the bed–her eyes swollen and red, her face pale, as if she had aged several years in an instant.
Perseus and Christopher stood by the window, seemingly engaged in a conversation.
As Selina entered, they immediately fell silent, turning to look at her without saying a word.
She felt something was off, but then Mnie spoke up, reaching her hand out. “Selina,e here.”
Selina hurried forward, intending to take her mother’s hand, when Mnie suddenly swung her arm back with a sharp motion.
With nearly all her strength, Mnie’s palm struck Selina across the face. The world went ck for a moment, and she staggered two steps before catching the bedside table to steady herself.
It took her a while to recover. Mnie has never hit me before, and my protective brothers just stand there and keep silent?
“Mom? Are you crazy? You actually hit me! I’m your most beloved daughter, Selina!” Selina cried out, her face full of shock, grievance, and suppressed anger.
Pain flickered in Mnie’s eyes. Timothy and I once </iid hands on Anneliese more than once for Selina’s sake, and now my heart feels like it’s being seared in boiling oil,
Anneliese endured so much injustice–insults, beatings, being forced to kneel, even imprisonment. And Selina? She takes one hit, and already she can’t bear it?
Mnie felt a mix of irony and hatred. She grabbed a water cup from the table and hurled it at Selina.

He had arrived a moment toote. Seeing Mnie throw water at Selina, he barked sharply and rushed forward, instinctively raising his arm to shield her.
Most of the scalding water spilled onto Zacharias‘ arm, with some sshing onto Selina’s neck, instantly reddening the skin.
Selina screamed in pain, immediately helping Zacharias roll up his sleeve and remove his jacket.
Mnie and the two brothers watched coldly, silently.
“Mom, why are you treating her like this? How could you stand there and watch?”
