Anneliese rose to her feet, giving Ellie’s hand a gentle squeeze. Her gaze lingered on the little girl nestled against Jonathan’s shoulder, thoserge, tear–brimmed eyes full of reluctance as she nced back at her.

Acting quickly, Anneliese called out to Jonathan, rummaged through her purse, scribbled her phone number on a sticky note, and pressed it into Ellie’s palm. <fna255> Content originallyes from Find_Novel(.</fna255>

“This is my number. Call me anytime, alright?”

Ellie clutched the note tightly before finally turning her attention to Jonathan.

With the girl in his arms, Jonathan carried her away, while Anneliese took a moment topose herself before stepping out of the lounge as well.

She was just about to look for Marlowe to bid farewell when Nicole suddenly appeared, seizing her by the arm and dragging her onto the terrace.

“You traitor! Since when did you hook up with Jonathan without telling me? If you hadn’t let me watch Selina’s melodrama tonight, I’d have iced you out for two whole days just to show how furious I am!”

Anneliese immediately pleaded for forgiveness, soothing Nicole with promises of coffee another day as an apology. Only then did Nicole relent, though her curiosity burned even brighter. She pulled Anneliese aside, her eyes sparkling with mischief.

“So, how did yound Jonathan? Don’t hold back–spill every detail! nning to write a book? Because I’d pre–order the first copy!”

    Anneliese was left speechless.

“I didn’tnd on anyone,” she said atst. “His family has been pressuring him to marry, and I needed a way to shake Zacharias off. We simply got the marriage license, that’s all.”

Nicole clicked her tongue. “Oh, please. Why can’t I ever meet some wealthy heir desperate for a wife? And don’t even try to deny it–I saw the way you two were looking at each other, practically glued at the lips in that lounge…”

Flustered, Anneliese shoved her lightly, pressing her hands together in mock prayer. “Enough already!”

Seeing her cheeks flushed scarlet, Nicole finally changed the subject. “Fine. Then tell me about that Eastern–style wedding gown Selina gave away. She looked so smug, yet Mrs. Golding’s

A waiter passed by, and Nicole grabbed two sses of red wine, handing one to Anneliese as though settling in for a long chat.

Taking a sip, Anneliese exined, “Two years ago, I gave Mrs. Golding a traditional embroidered wedding dress. She appreciated me deeply afterward. Selina assumed Mrs. Golding adored that kind of embroidery, so she spent a fortune acquiring one for tonight.”

Nicole leaned closer, intrigued. “And the real story is…”

“The dress I gave her wasn’t just embroidery—it was her grandma’s handiwork, originally made as a wedding gift for her mother. But during the political chaos ten years ago, her grandma was branded a capitalist and punished. The dress was lost, ending up in Harborview. Mrs. Golding’s mother died young, never getting the chance to wear it, which became a lifelong regret. I happened to track it down and bought it back. For Mrs. Golding, it’s not about the needlework—it’s about missing her mother and grandma.”

Selina never knew the full story. On such a joyous asion, she just had to dredge up something painful for Marlowe, then unt her expensive gown as if belittling Marlowe’s heirloom. No wonder Marlowe’s mood soured.

Nicole burst outughing. “So that’s why Selina’s been copying your style! She’s even trying to mimic your way of winning people over–but without doing her homework. What an absolute fool! I never realized she was that clueless.”

Anneliese only shrugged and took another sip of wine.

Her eyes drifted toward Nicole, who looked more polished than ever, and she hesitated before asking quietly, “Can I ask you something?”

“Of course. With our bestie status, I’ll tell you almost anything.”

Biting her lip, Anneliese murmured, “Thanks. At that beauty clinic you always visit, do they offer services beyond stic surgery?”

Nicole immediately noticed her friend’s awkwardness, her eyes lighting up with mischief.

With Anneliese’s striking beauty, stic surgery was out of the question. It had to be something else.

Nicole leaned in, lowering her voice. “Oh, I get it. You’re thinking about hymen restoration, aren’t you? I know a ce that looks incredibly authentic-”

“What the–cough, cough! Hymen restoration? Absolutely not!”

Anneliese had just taken a sip of wine and nearly choked at Nicole’s words.

“Don’t be shy, I totally understand.”

Anneliese shoved her away, flustered. “No, seriously! I just wanted to know the best ce for scar removal. I have an old scar on my belly that I want gone. You’repletely overthinking it!”

Nicole gave her a long, suspicious look. “Why are you blushing so hard over a scar on your belly?”

    Anneliese’s face grew even hotter.

Why am I embarrassed? I’m doing this for myself, not for anyone else.
