“Anne, why show up by yourself? Shouldn’t you be dragging that ‘new‘ husband of yours along so Dad and the boys can size him up?” Selina’s tone was sweet, but the glint in her eyes gave her away. She wasn’t curious–she was setting a trap.

Anneliese already knew exactly what Selina was after. She wanted to humiliate her in front of the Goldings, to make her look like a two–timer who couldn’t keep her men straight.

Great, all I need is their hair. If Selina’s going to push my buttons, I could y along.

    Anneliese didn’t hesitate. She lifted her hand and swung. <fn1333> ???s ??????? ?s ?????? ?? Find[?]ovel</fn1333>

Selina shrieked, clearly expecting it, and flung herself dramatically into Timothy’s arms. The p missed, though not entirely–Anneliese’s ruby ring snagged a lock of Selina’s hair.

As Anneliese pulled her hand back, Selina let out a sad cry and grabbed her head.

“Ow! That stings!” Her eyes welled up with tears, as if she were the victim.

Timothy’s face grew stern. “Anneliese, that’s it!”

Anneliese gave him a bored look. “Run your mouth, get pped. Simple equation.”

“What did I even do?” Selina’s voice shook, her face contorted in a fake distress.

“Selina was only worried about you since you just got married,” Perseus jumped in, ring. “You’re way out of line.”

Anneliese had already gotten what she needed–the strand of hair wrapped around her ring. She saw no point in wasting any more words.

She smirked. “Worried about me? Please. What kind of respectable woman calls someone else’s husband ‘new‘ like he’s somemodity? My man belongs to me. I’m not about to let trash like youe near him, much lessy eyes on him.”

She didn’t even nce back at their outraged faces. She turned on her heel, hips swaying as she strode into the hotel.

As she stepped into the lobby, her gazended on the ruby ring still tangled in Selina’s hair. She fiddled with it, trying to free the strand. Then, a voice suddenly startled her from behind.

    “Anne, there you are.”

Her heart skipped a beat. She turned around, clutching her hand tightly. Zacharias stood there, his eyes lighting up as he drank her in.

For a moment, his breath caught. Tonight, she was radiant. Thevender strapless gown traced every line of her frame, the airy fabric floating with her movements. Her shoulders gleamed under the chandelier, her hair swept up with a glittering diamond clip that sparkled like starlight.

    She looked untouched, almost ethereal.

During their marriage, she wore more modest clothing, always portraying herself as the ideal wife. Now, at just twenty–two, her soft and youthful style made her seem like a girl who had never been tied down.

His eyes went soft, and Zacharias swallowed hard. “Did I spook you? I didn’t mean to scare you.”

His eyes flicked down to her hand.

Anneliese’s pulse quickened. She red. “You creep up on people too much.”

“Let’s go.” His smile was gentle and inviting as he took her hand, making it clear he wanted to walk in with her like a couple.

“You go first. I need to touch up my makeup. I’ll meet you inside.” Anneliese eased out of reach, her tone calm.

She didn’t wait for an answer, but instead swept past him and made a beeline for the restroom.

Zacharias frowned, rooted in ce. He had brought her tonight to showcase uderias Tech. To him, her presence wasn’t just personal–it was business.

At that moment, Selina walked in with Timothy and Perseus. Her face brightened instantly. “Zach, why are you hanging around here alone? Come with us.”

She’d abandoned her sweet, sugary style for a bold red gown, heavy eyeliner, and bright red lips. It was clear she was trying to channel the old Anneliese–the one who used to stand by Zacharias‘ side at events. The issue was that it didn’t work for her. Instead of looking morous, the look came across as forced, as if she were ying dress–up.

She went to take her arm, but Zacharias pulled back, leaving her hand dangling awkwardly in midair.

    Selina’s smile faltered.

Timothy, still fuming over Zacharias pulling investment from White Inc., sneered. “Mr. Shaw isn’t the man he once was. Don’t waste your time, Selina.”

Selina clung tighter to Timothy’s arm, scrambling to soothe him. “Dad, don’t be angry. Zach only pulled out because Anne pushed him into it. He had no choice…”

Meanwhile, Anneliese locked herself in a restroom stall. She rummaged through her purse, pulled out a sealed bag, and stuffed Selina’s hair inside before zipping it closed. She slid the bag back into her purse, smoothed out her gown, and stepped out.

Just as she was about to leave, something in the corner caught her attention.
