Back then, Anneliese had convinced herself it was just a typical reaction–any guy around a woman would have acted the same way.

    Tonight felt different.

Jonathan’s gaze told her he wanted more than just herpany. Whether it was her he craved or simply her body, she couldn’t tell. Either way, her mind was a blur, nothing like the happily married life she had once envisioned.

How did things even get here? she asked herself.

Her phone buzzed with another message from Jessica. ‘So, do you want to sleep with him or not?‘

Anneliese thought, God… Why am I lying in bed at midnight having this conversation?

As they chatted longer, it became tougher to unwind.

Warmth spread through her, her toes curling beneath the covers as shame blurred into something dangerously close to desire. She peeked out from under the covers, her cheeks flushing, her lungs gasping for air.

Another message popped up. Jessica, clearly seeing right through her silence, doubled down.

‘You’re married. End of story. Use him, not gadgets!‘

    Anneliese’s face burned even hotter.

Morning came too soon, and once again she overslept. When she finally left her room, the clock was already creeping toward 9 a.m.

She figured Jonathan had already gone for work, but instead found him lounging on the couch with hisptop on hisp, casually browsing through documents.

He looked up as her door opened.

Anneliese froze. Oh no. My hair’s a wreck, my face is bare, and–oh God–what if I still have sleep crust in my eyes?

She swiftly darted back in and mmed the door as if escaping a crime scene. <fnb2e8> Th? link to the orig?n of this information r?sts ?n find?novel</fnb2e8>

Jonathan was still lounging on the couch with hisptop, his fingers asionally tapping away.

She tried to sound casual, asking, “Don’t you have work today?”

He lifted his gaze. “Come here.”

Her heart skipped. The exact words fromst night echoed in her head, ‘Come here. Kiss me.‘ He had said it so casually, like asking her to pass a dish across the table.

He says marriage <ies with the full package… but do we seriously have to dive in this early in the morning? Her pulse kicked up.

She moved closer, voice trembling. “Wh–what is it?”

He chuckled to himself, clearly amused by how nervous she looked. He patted the seat beside him. “What’s wrong? Scared I’ll eat you up?”

Anneliese’s lips twitched, but she sat down. Jonathan tapped theptop and handed it to her. “Check this out.”

On the screen were three luxury vis.

    She blinked. “What is it?”

He exined, “Pick one. Our new ce. Which do you like?”

Her jaw ckened. This wasn’t what she expected. “Isn’t Maple Bay good enough?”

Jonathan exhaled slowly. “We’re married. If we move in together, it’ll make things easier with both our families. A new ce is necessary.”

She reminded herself of their deal–her role was to keep his family from hassling him about marriage. She nodded slightly. “Fine. So, am I the one changing ces, or is it you?”

On the inside, she was thinking, Please don’t mention moving. Packing boxes is a total nightmare. She knew she was beingzy, and the whole idea of moving just seemed like a huge pain in the

    neck.

Jonathan’s expression hardened. “Maple Bay isn’t safe. What went downst night could just as easily happen again.”

He wasn’t exaggerating. Zacharias had already shown up uninvited more than once, and Marcus had cornered her downstairs before.

Maple Bay was shy, but it wasn’t private. Compared to the gated vis Jonathan was showing her now, Maple Bay didn’t evene close.

Anneliese scrolled through the listings, her jaw nearly hitting the floor with each click.

Back when she and Zacharias bought their ce at Sunrise Residence, she honestly thought she’d reached peak luxury. Now, seeing the properties on Jonathan’s screen, that old ce seemed like a bargain. These weren’t just houses–they were ptial estates, each worth many times more, with grounds so vast she could probably get lost wandering through the backyard.

Only then did she grasp just how rich Jonathan really was.

She turned to him slowly. “You know, we never signed a prenup. Should we get that sorted before anything?”

Jonathan’s brows lifted slightly. How did house hunting suddenly turn into a talk about prenups?

He clearly wasn’t a fan of the subject. He simply replied, “Toote. A prenup only works before the ‘I do, not after.”
