Chapter 301 A Bet Between Gifts

Jonathan gave a faint smile as he leaned back in his chair. “Want a drink?”

“Hold on,” Anneliese said quickly. She shuffled out of the dining room in her slippers, the soles making soft thuds on the floor.

When she returned, she was bncing a bottle of red wine in one hand while hiding the other behind her back. She ced the wine on the table and beamed at him. “Guess what? I’ve got a little something for you.”

He noticed the way she kept her other hand tucked away. He rose from his seat. “That’s funny. I actually picked up a souvenir for you on myst trip as well. Give me a second.”

Her eyes widened, lighting up with that spark he liked so much. She waited as he disappeared into the living room and came back in the same yful pose, his right hand hidden behind his back.

The sight made herugh out loud. “We look like kids. Should we reveal them together?”

He tilted his head, lips tugging into a mischievous smile. “Or we make it interesting with a bet.”

“A bet?” She narrowed her eyes, curious.

    “Whoever guesses

the other person’s gift wins. The winner gets one favor from the loser. Deal?” He dragged out a chair and sat opposite her, one brow arched in challenge.

Anneliese thought it over. This one’s way too easy. Guys always go for the standard stuff–bags, clothes, and some shy jewelry. No imagination. Based on the size of what he’s hiding, it’s clearly not a bag–no

—no way is it a skincare. I’ve got this. She smirked and gave him an OK sign.

“Fine. Let’s text our answers. No peeking.”

She typed “jewelry” into her phone, grinning at her own cleverness. No need to be specific- bracelet, ne, earrings–she had all bases covered, and there was no way she’d miss.

Jonathan caught her smug little look. He could already tell what trick she was ying. Still, he pulled out his phone and typed in his own guess.

Her WhatsApp dinged, and she was the first to pull out her hidden hand. “This is for you. Just a little thank–you for everything you’ve done. Hope you like it, Mr. Fullbuster.”

It was a watch, tucked neatly inside its box. She offered it with both hands, a little proud of herself.

Jonathan epted it, then revealed what he had been hiding. “Yours, Mrs. Fullbuster.”

The moment she spotted the zippered case, her heart sank. This isn’t for jewelry. “D*mn it. Lost already.” Still, excitement buzzed through her. “Can I open it now?”

“Go ahead.” His mouth curved, amused.

She unzipped it quickly. Insidey a sleekpact drone–light as air, barelyrger than a pen. Her breath caught, and from the look on her face, Jonathan knew right away he’d nailed the gift.

Her voice came out in a rush. “Wait… is this the PD–1001PRS?”

She picked it up with care, her eyes shining bright. Three tiny lenses sat at the tip, reflecting the light. She instantly recognized what it was–the most advanced reconnaissance drone used by Adros‘ special forces. It was priceless, possibly worth more than a home.

Her heart raced. “This is insane. I love it!”

She couldn’t stop grinning, ready to fiddle with it right away. She then saw Jonathan unboxing the gift she had given him, and a wave of embarrassment swept over her. Ugh… <ipared to this thing, my watch feels like pocket change. And the way he gives it–so thoughtful, so spot–on–it makes mine look half–hearted.

Jonathan brushed a thumb over the silver face of the watch, then lifted it out of the box. “Help me put it on?”

Relief eased her nerves. He actually likes it.

She set the drone aside and stepped closer, gently unsping the watch he already wore–a Patek Philippe from the Grand Complications line; its dark leather strap fitted snugly against

    his wrist.

Jonathan turned his hand slightly to help her, though the sp was stubborn. She leaned in without realizing it, worried she might pull too hard. Her hair slipped over the back of his hand, brushing his skin like silk. His fingers twitched, veins tightening along his wrist as if the touch had startled him.

Anneliese had no idea how much she was pushing his buttons.

“There we go.” She slipped off the old watch and reced it with the new one, clicking the sp shut.

It had a metal strap, which was adjusted at the store after she estimated the width of his wrist. She’d been nervous it wouldn’t fit, but the moment it clicked into ce, relief flooded her.
