Chapter 313

    ?Chapter 313:

She had merely been on the receiving end of a beating.

Silent, Belinda watched as Marlene sighed and continued his examination, murmuring, “It’s fortunate you didn’t sustain fatal injuries. Otherwise, we might be sending your remains to your family today!”

“They wouldn’te for me,” Belinda replied with a self-deprecatingugh.

To the Nelson family, whether she lived or died was irrelevant. Marlene, irritated by her pessimism, couldn’t hold back. “Don’t speak so negatively all the time. Your family…”

He was cut off by the ringing of Belinda’s phone on the side table.

Her frown quickly disappeared as she saw the caller ID.

“See, your family does care,” Marlene remarked as he handed her the phone. “It’s your father calling!”

Belinda stared at the disy showing “Dad,” momentarily taken aback. Why would Donovan be calling now?

Belinda frowned as she took the phone from Marlene and answered, “Hello.”

“Hello, Belinda.” Donovan’s voice came through, dripping with insincerity. “Yesterday was Gillian’s birthday. She took the day off. She nned to travel abroad but canceled her trip after hearing about your divorce from Mr. Cox. She was worried you might be upset, so she decided toe to Nawrin to keep youpany.”

Belinda couldn’t help but sneer. She vividly remembered receiving a message from Gillian, plotting to advance on her former brother-inw, Kristopher. It was clear to her that Gillian’s trip to Nawrin wasn’t aboutfort—it was about Kristopher.

“She’s on her way now and will be in Nawrin in about three hours. I’ll send you the flight details. Make sure you pick her up,” Donovan continued. “Gillian isn’t used to hardship. I’m concerned she might fall ill from difort in Nawrin. Book a five-star hotel for her. We don’t trust any other kind.”

Belinda sneered again at Donovan’s overbearing tone. “If you’re so worried about Gillian, why don’t youe with her? Or you could book the five-star hotel yourself.”

“What are you talking about?” Donovan’s voice hardened. “Gillian is your sister. It’s only natural for you to look after her. Besides, you’ve lost to Cathy and were left by Kristopher. Gillian is concerned for you as a sister and wants tofort you. Isn’t it your duty to take care of her? Don’t be so thoughtless.”

Belinda scoffed. “Is sheing tofort me, or is sheing to gloat and chase after Kristopher?”

Donovan’s tone grew even colder. “Gillian brought your favorite dessert. Is that really how you think of her? How ungrateful! I am ashamed to call you my daughter.”

“Then you can pretend you don’t have me as a daughter.” Belinda’s voice was cold as she closed her eyes. “I’m not feeling well now. I don’t want to argue,” she continued. “It’s none of my business if Gillian wants toe to Nawrin, but I won’t be seeing her, picking her up, or arranging a five-star hotel for her. If you’re so concerned,e and take care of her yourself.”
