Chapter 291

    ?Chapter 291:

Jessa paused, adding, “And to top it off, Cathy, you really orchestrated all of this.”

As Jessa finished speaking, Cathy’s face drained of color. After a moment of tense silence, she let out a derisive snort. “So disgusting.”

With a flick of her wrist, she logged into her social media ount and began deleting the post she had shared earlier.

After that, she couldn’t resist checking her messages again. The text she had sent Kristopher over an hour ago still hung unanswered. Was he sleeping?

    It was such a shame.

She had been eager to share the news of Belinda’s potential demise with him the moment it happened.

Kristopher slept through the entire night.<fndd4d> Find the newest release on FindN()vel</fndd4d>

It was five in the morning when his fever finally broke. The sky was just beginning to lighten as he slowly began to regain consciousness. He blinked at the familiar ceiling above him, realizing that he was in the master bedroom of the Riviera Vis.

How did he end up here?

A vague feeling of having had a long dream lingered in his mind. In it, he was back at the beach from five years ago. One particr moment kept repeating in his thoughts — the time Cathy had rescued him at the beach, the time when he had lost his sight.

Kristopher recalled that he kept calling out her name, but she never responded.

He felt a slight throbbing in his head, and memories of the previous night slowly began to piece together. Closing his eyes, Kristopher remembered driving with Belinda when they got into the car ident. He recalled how, at the most crucial moment, he had been terrified that Belinda would get hurt. He remembered disregarding his own safety and shielding her with his body.

Then, the image of Belinda’s tearful eyes came to his mind. Her voice had trembled when she asked him, “Will we… will we die?”

His eyes flew open, and he immediately sat up in bed. “Belinda!”

“What’s wrong?” a hushed voice asked from his bedside. “Oh, you’re awake?”

Frowning, Kristopher turned to see a still sleepy Belinda. She yawned and stretched her arms, her face marked by dark circles under her eyes and still pale with exhaustion. It looked like she had spent the night on the hard, wooden chair.

Kristopher’s chest ached at the sight of her worn-out appearance. “Why didn’t you sleep in the guest room?” he asked, his voice surprisingly gentle, even to himself.

The vi had more than enough rooms to amodate her.

Belinda yawned again and stood up. “You were running a fever from the infection on your wound. I was worried your condition would worsen during the night.”

A pang of guilt stabbed at his heart. “I am a grown, healthy man. I wouldn’t die from fever. You shouldn’t have stayed up all night.”

Belinda clicked her tongue and shook her head. “You fainted from your fever. Of course, you needed someone to watch over you. Back when you were in a vegetative state…” She suddenly cut herself off.

For a second there, she almost forgot that Kristopher hated any mention of his shameful history. He never liked the fact that she had taken care of him in the past.

“Sorry,” Belinda muttered. She took a deep breath and turned toward the door. “Are you hungry? I’ll go make breakfast.”
