?Chapter 180:
Belinda hesitated, her mind reying his words in the elevator. “We can have another baby in the future.”
A sarcasticugh escaped her lips. “That’s absurd. We’re on the verge of a divorce.”
Had he made that offhandment merely because he was moved by the story of another couple’s affection? Could a fleeting statement, made long after her miscarriage and devoid of any constion, be misconstrued by Kristopher as a serious talk about starting a family again?
When had he be so unreasonable?
Kristopher’s eyes narrowed as he read her expression. It was just as he suspected. Despite her protests, deep down, she wasn’t ready to let go. The mocking smile on her face betrayed her reluctance to face the impending divorce.
With a thoughtful frown, he responded, “The divorce is merely a temporary solution to safeguard Cathy for now. Once this ordeal is over, we’ll get remarried.”
He stared intently at Belinda, his tone earnest. “Don’t worry. We’re still young. We have time. We’ll have children eventually.”
The words, “Don’t worry, we’re still young. We have time,” cut deeply into Belinda. She was young, yes, but her time was running short. Due to her deteriorating condition and the time she had left, she couldn’t have another child.
And besides…
Gazing directly at Kristopher, she articted each word deliberately. “I don’t need another baby.”
No sooner had she spoken than the waiter arrived with her order. Silently, she bowed her head and started to eat.<fn3ae2> Fresh chapters posted on Find★Novel</fn3ae2>
Kristopher watched her, her head bowed over her meal, and he frowned slightly.
After they finished breakfast, they left the restaurant together, walking in uneasy silence. It wasn’t until they stepped onto the elevator heading to Anthony’s ward that Belinda finally allowed herself to look at Kristopher.

“Mr. Cox,” she began, her voice carrying a mix of frustration and curiosity. “You insisted on having breakfast with me, and I thought you had something important to discuss…”
In the confined space of the elevator, she lifted her gaze to meet his directly. “Was that all you wanted to tell me? That we should have another baby?”
She knew Kristopher too well. If he truly had something important to say, he would find another chance to talk privately, especially after failing to speak up this time. But she had no desire to be alone with him.
After a moment’s contemtion in the elevator, she decided it was time to pose her question.
Kristopher’s reaction was immediate; his brow furrowed as he gave her a look dripping with sarcasm. “What do you suppose I want to say?” His tone was unmistakably teasing, indicating he had no intention of having a serious conversation.
She dropped the subject.
Belinda turned away, a frown creasing her forehead. She spoke without looking at him. “Forget about it then. Just don’t bring it up again as an excuse.”
The elevator resumed its silent descent.
Kristopher squinted at her, his stareden with pressure. Belinda, ignoring his piercing gaze, shifted her attention to the elevator’s screen, feigning interest in anything but the tension between them.
