Chapter 107

    ?Chapter 107:

Belinda paused, then suddenly remembered. “Fluffy!”

She rose quickly, piecing together that Kristopher was likely to return Fluffy to her.

To mask her realization that Fluffy was indeed with Kristopher, she feigned astonishment. “Did you manage to find Fluffy for me?”

Kristopher reclined in his chair, his tone indifferent. “First, I have a few questions.”

    “What questions?”

He narrowed his eyes, examining Belinda with a critical gaze. “The phone call you made to me two nights ago, what was that about? And why did you ignore my calls after that?”

Taken aback by his directness, Belinda stumbled for an excuse. “I dialed the wrong number. When I saw you had called back, I didn’t know how to exin, so I chose not to answer.”

His expression grew colder. “Who were you trying to call? Darren Wright?”

Belinda quickly shook her head. “No.”

    “Not him?”

He scoffed. “That very night, after you dodged my call, I saw Darren rushing out of the restaurant. Later, I spotted him outside your apartment. Are you telling me your call wasn’t for him?”

Belinda was momentarily stunned, struggling to gather her thoughts. “You were at my apartment that night too?”

“When you called and then said nothing, and didn’t respond when I called back, I worried something had happened to you. So, I came to check on you.”

Kristopher let out a cold snort. “I certainly didn’t expect to find Darren leaving your ce, telling me you were already asleep.”

    Her mind buzzed with confusion.

After Darren escorted her to the hospital, he had returned to her apartment to find her medication log. That must have been when Kristopher encountered Darren.

Yet, she had clearly asked Darren the previous day whether he had seen Fluffy during his subsequent visit to her apartment.

He mentioned not seeing Fluffy and said nothing about meeting Kristopher.

    “Belinda.”

Kristopher’s voice jolted her back to the moment as he peered intently at her. “Were you actually asleep at that time?”

Quickly, she shook her head, a firm denial. “No, no.”

She couldn’t grasp why Darren had informed Kristopher that she was asleep.

Sote at night, a man leaving a woman’s apartment and iming she was already asleep… Didn’t that just invite misunderstanding?

Kristopher’s icy gaze bore into her. “Then Darren telling me you wanted to sever ties with your past and didn’t even want the cat we raised together, insisting I take Fluffy back… was that your doing?”

Belinda felt as if her head might burst.

So, Fluffy hadn’t been lost but had been handed over to Kristopher by Darren that night?

No wonder Darren had sounded off when she had called him twice yesterday about Fluffy.

She had thought he was merely exhausted from staying up with her all night.

It appeared now he was wracked with guilt!

With this realization, she shook her head vigorously. “I didn’t know! I never said I didn’t want Fluffy, nor was I aware he told you that! That night, I wasn’t even home. He came to pick up some things for me. I had no idea he met you or that he handed Fluffy over and said such things… I…”

She bit her lip, her voice thick with emotion as she continued, “Yesterday, Madisyn spent all day looking for Fluffy, and I searched all night. Last night, out of desperation, I even thought of asking you for help… If I had really told him to give Fluffy to you, I wouldn’t have needed to ask you…”<fn8647> Fresh chapters posted on find{n}ovel</fn8647>

Seeing Belinda’s tear-filled eyes, Kristopher arched an eyebrow, a hint of satisfaction in his tone. “So, that night, nothing happened between you and Darren?”
