?Chapter 57:
Belinda came to an abrupt halt. “Someone is after my medicine?” she gasped.<fn7501> This content belongs to FιndNovel</fn7501>
The memory was crystal clear. Just a few days earlier, her doctor had phoned her with an update, telling her that she was currently the most critical stomach cancer patient at Peace Hospital.
Belinda understood that opportunities like this were rare. That was why she had hurried from the party to the airport that very night, making her way back to Nawrin to begin her treatment at Peace Hospital.
Upon her return, she had met with the doctor, who shared that the hospital’s board had convened and unanimously decided she could undergo the new drug treatment, provided she could cover the cost. There wouldn’t be any furtherplications regarding her treatment. Yet now, merely a week after her first dose, the doctor was on the phone, hesitantly informing her that someone was willing to pay a high price for her medication.
“Well… yes,” the doctor stuttered, clearly ufortable. “There’s a patient whose condition is slightly less severe than yours. Her boyfriend caught wind of the new drug on the news… He approached us, adamant that cost was no object, and he wants to purchase the remaining four doses…”
With a heavy sigh, the doctor continued, “Belinda, I understand this might be hard to ept, but… there are only a few clinical trials for this drug. It’s not even proven to be effective against stomach cancer yet, so…”
“So, should I just hand over all my remaining medicine to someone wealthier?”
Belinda inhaled deeply, rose from her seat, and made her way toward the elevator with a detached tone. “I disagree.”
“But Belinda…”

“Dr. Reid,” Belinda uttered with a faint smile. “You’ve been my doctor throughout this ordeal, and you’ve treated me well; I’m aware of that. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have rushed to call me at the first sign of news, even in the middle of the night. It’s the hospital’s pressure that’s prompting you to discuss this with me, isn’t it?”
Marlene Reid exhaled deeply but remained silent.
“It’s fine. Tell the hospital administration that I have funds as well. I can meet their price and even surpass it if necessary. If the hospital persists, I will reach out to the media and reveal how Peace Hospital discriminates between patients.”
Upon hearing her words, Marlene pressed her lips together and responded, “Alright, I will ry your message.”
“And…”
Belinda walked confidently to the elevator and pressed the call button as she spoke with a light tone. “If they keep bothering you, just direct them to me. I’m curious to see who’s daring enough to fight over medicine with a patient who has less than three months to live.” With that, she ended the call and stepped inside.
At Peace Hospital, Marlene hung up the phone with a heavy sigh, turned, and knocked on the director’s office door. Inside, Kristopher and Cathy sat across from the director. When Marlene entered, the director smiled warmly and gestured for her to sit. “Marlene, were you able to reach the patient? What did she say?”
Marlene looked uneasy. Her gaze flicked to Kristopher and Cathy before she lowered her head and ryed Belinda’s message.
Kristopher scoffed, scorn lining his voice. “Surpass my bid? That’s bold. Tell her I’m prepared to go as high as five hundred million. If she can match that, I’ll step aside and let her have the four doses.”
