Chapter 53

    ?Chapter 53:

After leaving the Cox family estate, Belinda found herself standing by the roadside, struggling to get a taxi. Anthony, preferring solitude, had chosen this suburban home for its peacefulness. The area was secluded, with few cars passing by.

Frustrated, Belinda turned to a ride-hailing app, but even after ten minutes, no cars were avable. Feeling stranded, she reluctantly called her friend Madisyn for help.

The previous night’s heavy rain had left puddles scattered along the road, reflecting the trees above. As she stared into these watery mirrors, Belinda called her best friend. “Can youe pick me up? I’m at the Cox family estate gate,” she asked.

Madisyn sounded surprised on the other end of the line. “Darren told me you were in the hospital. I was about to wrap up here and visit you. What happenedst night? Why did you go back to the estate?”

“It’s a long story,” Belinda sighed, just as she heard the distant rumble of an engine starting.

    It was Kristopher’s car.

Her eyes darted toward the noise, but before she could see clearly, the ck Cayenne sped past, flinging mud all over her.

With her new outfit ruined, Belinda rolled her eyes in frustration. Kristopher had clearly done it on purpose, seeking revenge for the p she had given him earlier.

Hadn’t he said that if she simply apologized, he would act as if it never happened? What a petty man!

In the backseat of the sleek ck Cayenne, Cathy noticed Belinda, disheveled and standing by the roadside in the rearview mirror. A smirk crept across her face.

Belinda got what wasing to her.

She deserved it for daring to bully Cathy.

Kristopher’s eyes followed Cathy’s gaze to the rearview mirror. There, reflected in the ss, was Belinda crouching by the roadside, chatting on her phone while absentmindedly plucking at the grass growing in the flowerbed.

Her posture made her appear small and delicate, hardly the image of an adult woman. Kristopher furrowed his brow in concern. Was it just his imagination, or did Belinda seem much thinnertely? Could it have been the aftermath of the miscarriage? Or perhaps something else…

    “Kristopher.”

Kristopher caught glimpses of Belinda in the rearview mirror, his gaze lingering a little too long. Cathy, noticing this, bit her lip and feigned difort, clutching her chest as she leaned into him. “I’m in so much pain…”

Snapping out of his reverie, Kristopher instinctively supported Cathy as she leaned into him, his expression concerned. “Pain?”

“Yeah…” Cathy nestled into his broad, sturdy chest, tears welling up as she continued, “They say that the stomach is tied to our emotions. Even healthy people get upset or angry, and it often hurts… let alone someone like me, who’s had stomach issues for a while…” As she spoke, her voice broke into sobs. “Kristopher, do you think I’ll ever get better?”

“Don’t talk like that. With all the advancements in medicine, you’ll get better.”

Kristopher reassured her gently, holding her close while discreetly texting his assistant, Marc, on his phone, “Arrange a car to pick up Belinda and take her back to town.”

After sending the text, Kristopher nced again at the diminishing figure in the rearview mirror. Belinda was still there, probably trying to get a taxi over the phone. He couldn’t help but sneer.

Without him, Belinda struggled even to take a taxi and was left to sit alone by the roadside. Did she really think she could manage on her own after their divorce?<fn5b58> Th? link to the orig?n of this information r?sts ?n Find~Novel</fn5b58>
