Chapter 49

    ?Chapter 49:

Hearing Anthony’s words, Kristopher’s brow furrowed, and he instinctively nced toward Cathy.

Tears streamed down Cathy’s face, herplexion as pale as the wall behind her.

Feeling his gaze, Cathy bit her lip and looked at Kristopher with deep sorrow, her voice trembling. “This is all my fault… It’s all because of me. I never should’vee back from overseas… Had I known my return would cause such chaos in Kristopher and Belinda’s marriage, I would’ve rather stayed abroad, even at the cost of my own life…” Her tears grew more intense as she continued, “Anthony, there’s no need to push Belinda and Kristopher toward a divorce. Since I’m the cause of all this, I’ll leave instead.”

With those words, she dabbed at her tears and made her way toward the door. “I’m going back now. I’ll book a flight to Avaloria and continue my treatment there…”

    “Cathy!”

Maggie’s voice cut through the tension as she stepped forward, gently grabbing Cathy’s arm and pulling her back. “What are you thinking? Remember three years ago? After my brother was incapacitated, you left for three months to seek new treatments for him overseas. Yet, before you could return, he married that curse of a woman. And you, choosing not to disrupt their marriage, stayed away for three years, sacrificing your health until illness forced you back home. Now, are you really considering leaving again because of her?” Her voice trembled with emotion as she continued, “Your parents already endured the loss of one daughter. You vanished for three years, and now, ill as you are, you n to leave them again… How can you justify that?”

Maggie paused, her eyes welling with tears before she turned to re at Belinda with fierce intensity. “A woman’s envy can be terrifying. You’ve endured her for three years, yet she remains discontent. If she desires a divorce, so be it. My brother deserves more than this.”

At that, Belinda raised an eyebrow, her lips curling into a cold smirk. “Really now? Three years ago, Miss Miller flew overseas overnight in search of a new drug to treat aatose patient, right?”

Maggie snorted, positioning herself like a knight shielding Cathy. “What else? Cathy loved my brother deeply, and after he slipped into aa, it’s only natural she’d seek a cure,” she said, shooting Belinda a frosty re. “Unlike others who exploited my brother’s inability to speak or move to secure a marriage with him. Without Cathy’s initial trip overseas, how could a simple country girl have had the opportunity to wed into our prestigious Cox family?”

Belinda almost burst intoughter at Maggie’s naive eptance of such a flimsy excuse.

Arms crossed, Belinda shot a piercing look at Cathy, who was partially shielded by Maggie. “I’m curious, Miss Miller. When you traveled overseas to find this new medicine, which of Kristopher’s medical records did you take with you? How much physiological data did you collect, spanning how many months? Did you consult any specialists?”

She flicked her hair back with a sense of authority. “Three years ago, while Kristophery unresponsive, I was his primary caretaker. His medical records were kept by me and the attending nurses. They are still stored on myputer. Which part of his medical data did Miss Miller take with her to find the medicine?”

Cathy’s face immediately drained of color. “I took…”

“You didn’t take anything, did you?” Belinda cut her off, her voice sharp.

Cathy’s expression soured even further. “I admit, I didn’t bring any documents with me when I went to inquire, but… I did help Kristopher in searching for medicine…”

Belinda let out a coldugh. “So, Miss Miller, when you went in search of the new medication, you simply told foreign experts that you had a friend who had been in an ident and was in aa, asking if there was anything that could save him?”

As she spoke, Belinda pulled out her phone, scrolling through Cathy’s online history. “Online, it says that three years ago, Miss Miller arrived in Avaloria and immediately joined an acting training camp, where you spent six months…” She nced up at Cathy, offering her a dismissive look. “So, Miss Miller, were you at this secluded acting school consulting your drama teachers about new medication foratose patients?”

Cathy’s face turned a deep red.
