“Burn those who burned me!”
<b>Chapter </b><b>218 </b>
<b>Chapter </b><b>12</b><b>: </b>True <b>Regret</b><b>. </b>
:
All the color drained from Vanessa’s face<b>. </b>There was no getting around this now. Everyone stared in silence, even Jamie was quiet for once. Josie turned back to Laura.
“<i>You </i><i>keep </i><i>saying </i>‘go <i>back </i>to <i>the </i><i>way </i><i>things </i><i>were</i><b>‘. </b><i>But </i><i>what </i><i>you </i><i>really </i>mean is for me to <i>allow </i>you the <i>satisfaction </i><b>of </b><i>being </i><i>delusional</i><i>.</i><i>” </i>
Laura’s eyes widen! How could she say that! She suffered the most these past four years<b>! </b>
“<i>Josie</i><i>!! </i><i>Do </i><i>you </i><i>have </i><i>any </i><i>idea </i><i>how </i>much I <i>suffered </i><i>from </i><i>you </i><i>going </i><i>to </i><i>prison</i><i>!!!</i>”
Josieughed hysterically.
“<i>How </i><i>much </i>YOU <i>suffered</i><i>? </i><i>Awe</i><i>…</i>poor <i>Laura</i><i>…</i>you must’ve <i>been </i><i>devastated </i>every <i>time </i>you looked <i>at </i><i>a </i>family photo and <i>saw </i><i>my </i><i>face</i>…<i>oh </i><i>wait</i>…<i>that’s </i><i>right</i><i>…</i><i>I’m </i><i>not </i><i>in </i><i>any </i>of <i>the </i><i>family </i><i>photos</i>.”

<i>“</i><i>Didn’t </i><i>want </i>to make ‘<i>Nessie</i>‘ <i>feel </i><i>ufortable</i>. <i>That </i><i>‘</i><i>way </i><i>things </i><i>were</i>‘ <i>rhetoric</i><i>. </i><i>Tell </i>me <i>something</i>…what’s <b><i>my </i></b><i>favorite </i>color? <i>Favorite </i><i>holiday</i>? <i>Favorite </i><i>pastime</i>? <i>Do </i><i>you </i><i>even </i><i>remember </i><i>that </i><i>my </i><i>birthday </i><i>is </i><i>the </i><i>same </i><i>day </i><b><i>as </i></b><i>your </i><i>precious </i><i>Nessie’s</i><b>?</b><b>” </b>
“For <i>Christ </i><i>sake</i><i>, </i><i>you </i><i>didn’t </i><i>even </i><i>remember </i>my <i>food </i><i>allergies</i>. <i>So </i><i>why </i><i>don’t </i><i>you </i><i>just </i><i>say </i><i>what </i><i>you </i><i>really </i><i>want</i><i>? </i><i>Say </i>you <i>want </i><i>me </i>to <i>rid </i><i>you </i><i>of </i><i>that </i><i>small </i><i>speck </i><i>of </i><i>guilt </i><i>you </i><i>may </i><i>actually </i><i>have</i>!<i>” </i>
Laura’s eyes began to water. She wasn’t sure what made her the most ufortable…Josie’s words<b>…</b>or the fact that she couldn’t answer any of those questions<b>. </b>Suddenly, Harlod spoke up.
<i>“</i><i>Josie</i><b>…</b>is <i>this </i><i>your </i><i>n</i><i>!! </i>To <i>spend </i><i>everyday </i><i>making </i>us <i>ufortable</i><i>!!! </i><i>What’s </i><i>done </i><i>is </i>done! <i>You’re </i><i>mother’s </i><i>right</i>! <i>Let’s </i>just-”
“She’s <i>not </i><i>my </i><b><i>mother</i></b><b><i>…</i></b><i>remember</i>? <i>And </i><i>you’re </i>not <i>my </i><i>father</i><i>.</i><i>” </i>
Harold’s eyes had fire in them. How dare she denounce them so coldly!
<i>“</i><i>Oh</i><i>…</i>what’s the matter? <i>Are </i><i>you </i><i>the only </i>one <i>that </i><i>gets </i>to denounce me?”
Harold’s face tightened…no matter what he said…legally…Josie was right.
<i>“</i>What is it that <i>you </i><i>want</i><i>!! </i><i>You </i>obviously <i>want </i>something. <i>What </i>do <i>you </i>want…money?”
Jamie asked with disdain in his tone.
<i>“</i>Money<i>…</i><i>ha</i><i>! </i>You can’t repay a <i>life </i><i>with </i><i>money</i>….the value is nowhere near equal.”

Jamie’s eyes widen in slight fear….what exactly did she mean by that? Before anyone could respond, Josie picked up her bags causing Harold to panic.
“<i>Where </i><i>are </i><i>you </i>going!!! <i>You </i><i>can’t </i><i>just </i><i>keep </i><iing </i><i>and </i><i>going </i>as <i>you </i>please<b><i>!!</i></b>”
Josie sneered.
<i>“</i><i>I </i><i>guess </i><i>your </i><i>oldest </i><i>didn’t </i>inform <i>you</i><i>. </i><i>I’ll </i><i>no </i>longer <i>be </i><i>living </i><i>at </i><i>this </i><i>premise</i><b><i>. </i></b><i>My </i><i>probation </i><i>officer </i>feels the <i>environment </i><i>is </i><i>unhealthy</i><i>.</i>”
Harold’s eyes nearly bulged out of his head! Panic immediately struck his face! What exactly had she told her probation officer! Where was she going!! Frantically, he walked towards Josie.
“T–That’s not <i>possible</i><i>! </i><i>Where </i><i>are </i><i>you </i><i>going</i><i>! </i><i>You </i><i>have </i><i>to </i><i>have </i>a <i>registered </i><i>address </i><i>with </i>a <i>responsible </i>party! <i>Listen </i><i>Josie</i>…<i>we </i><i>don’t </i><i>want </i><i>you </i>to <i>leave</i>! <i>Let’s </i><i>all </i><i>talk </i><i>about </i><i>this </i><i>rationally</i><i>.</i>”
But Josie wasn’t stupid. Smiling Sardonically, she red at Harold.
<i>“</i>I’m <i>aware </i><i>of </i><i>what </i><i>I </i>need <i>regarding </i><i>my </i><i>address</i>; <i>where </i><i>I’m </i><i>going </i>is <b>of </b><i>no </i><i>business </i><i>to </i><i>you</i><i>. </i><i>But </i><i>please</i><b><i>…</i></b><i>stop </i><i>with </i>the <i>‘</i><i>fatherly</i>‘ <i>act</i>. <i>We </i>all <i>know </i><i>the </i><i>reason </i><i>you </i><i>really want </i><i>me </i>here is <i>to </i>make <i>sure </i>I don’t tell <i>the </i><i>truth</i>.<i>” </i>
Harold’s face fellpletely ashen. How had she figured that out!! Seeing his reaction; Josie knew her guess was correct<b>. </b>Chuckling while shaking her head; she headed towards the door. Suddenly, she stopped mid exit and turned
back to Laura.
“<i>Oh</i>, <i>and </i>Mrs. <i>Taylor</i>….<i>stop </i><i>saying </i><i>you </i><i>suffered </i><i>these </i><i>past </i><i>four </i><i>years</i><i>. </i><i>You </i><i>have </i><i>no </i><i>idea </i><i>what </i>true <i>suffering </i><i>is</i><b>….</b><i>not </i><i>yet </i>
<i>anyway</i><b>…</b><b>” </b>
With that, Josie left the estate leaving the Taylors stunned. Anxiety began to creep into Laura’s chest. What was that supposed to mean? The only one that remained quiet was Christian. He wasn’t sure why, but something told him Josie would not take their deception lightly. He felt as if tidal wave of storms were headed their way.
<i>“</i><i>D</i><i>–</i>Did she <i>just </i><i>threatened </i>us? <i>That </i>sounded <i>like </i>a <i>threat</i><i>…</i><i>right</i><i>?</i><i>” </i>
Laura and Harold stood in silence. Their expressions were too hard to read.
Jamie looked at Christian nervously. Christian rolled his eyes and walked forward. This entire situation became more than he expected. However, there two things he was certain of; one, Josie was out for blood…if they didn’t get a hold on her soon she could be dangerous<b>; </b>and two…Vanessa wasn’t who he thought she was.
<i>“</i>Before I speak <i>about </i>Josie…I need <i>rification </i>on <i>something</i>.”
Christian turned to Vanessa; her face was filled with nerves. Jamie may have acted like he didn’t hear that recording; but she knew Christian wouldn’t. Still, she tried her best to y the sweet and innocent sister she’d always yed.
<b>“</b><b>Is </b><i>something </i>wrong big <i>brother</i>?<i>” </i>

Silence.

Christian walked directly in front of Vanessa; his tone was stern yet distant.
<i>“</i>Vanessa<i>…</i><i>why </i><i>did </i><i>you </i><i>go </i><i>see </i><i>Josie</i><i>? </i><i>And </i><i>before </i>you <i>answer</i>…remember <i>that </i>we <i>all </i>heard the <i>recording</i><i>.</i><i>” </i>
Vanessa nervously took a step back. Christian had never taken this type of tone with her. Realizing she was backed into a corner; Vanessa resorted to the one thing that always worked…her tears. She instantly began <b>to </b><b>cry </b><b>as </b>she answered Christian’s question. Through sobs she began to exin.
<i>“A</i>–<i>At </i><i>first</i>…I <i>really </i><i>did </i><i>just </i><i>want </i>to <i>tell </i>her about <i>her </i><i>grandmother</i><i>!! </i><i>I </i><i>knew </i>she <i>would </i>be upset <i>if </i>she found out <iter</i><i>! </i><i>B- </i><i>But </i><i>then</i>…<i>she</i>…she looked at me so <i>mean</i><i>!!! </i><i>It </i><i>was </i>so much <i>hatred </i>in her eyes!! <i>Like </i>it was <i>my </i><i>fault-</i>”
<b><i>“</i></b><b><i>IT </i></b><i>WAS </i>YOUR <i>FAULT</i><i>!!!</i>”
Chrisitan yelled at Vanessa causing her along with everyone else to jump. Harold intervened in an attempt to calm him down.
<i>“</i><i>Chris</i><b>…</b>calm <i>down</i><i>! </i><i>She’s </i><i>still </i><i>your </i>sis-<b>” </b>
“<i>So </i><i>was </i>Josie <i>dad</i><i>!! </i><i>But </i><i>because </i><i>we </i><i>prioritized </i><i>Vanessa over </i><i>her</i><i>…</i><i>we’re </i>now all <i>in </i><i>this </i><i>mess</i><b>!</b><b><i>” </i></b>
Christian was bing frustrated. It seemed like only he cared about how dangerous this could be. Harold looked away in shame…he knew what Josie had been through during those four years. Christian was right.
“<i>You </i><i>all </i>need <i>to </i><i>know </i><i>something.-</i>”
<i>“</i><i>Christian </i><i>wait</i><i>! </i>I <i>thought </i><i>we </i><i>decided-</i><i>” </i>
<i>“</i>It’s too <ite </i><i>for </i><i>that </i><i>now </i><i>dad</i>! <i>Look </i><i>at </i><i>how </i><i>far </i><i>this </i><i>has </i><i>gone</i><i>! </i><i>Maybe </i><i>if </i><i>they </i><i>all </i><i>knew </i><i>the </i><i>truth </i><i>they </i>would <i>stop </i><i>provoking </i><i>her</i><i>!</i>”
Laura red at Harold, her voice low with guilt and confliction.
“<i>Knew </i><i>what</i>? <i>What </i><i>have </i><i>you </i><i>been </i><i>keeping </i><i>from </i>us<b><i>?</i></b><b>” </b>
Harold’s face went ashen, drenched in guilt. Laura cut over to Christian.
“What <i>the </i>hell is going on<i>!</i><i>” </i>
Christian took a deep breath.
“Josie was severely abused during those four <i>years </i>in prison.”
Everyone’s eyes widen. Panic flooded Laura’s face, her hands began to shake as she slowly walked towards Christian. Gripping his shirt, tears began to fall down her cheeks.

“W–<i>What </i><i>do </i>you mean…a–<i>abused</i><b><i>?</i></b><i>” </i>

Christian couldn’t bare to tell her all the details. Shooting a quick look at his father, he spoke in a low tone.
“<i>We </i>don’t <i>have </i><i>all </i><i>the </i><i>details </i><i>yet</i>. <i>But </i><i>from </i><i>what </i>we’ve learned so <i>far</i>, the abuse seemed to be throughout her <b><i>entire </i></b><i>duration</i>. It seems <i>like </i><i>she </i><i>was </i><i>targeted</i>. <i>I </i><i>have </i><i>my </i><i>team </i><i>looking </i><i>into </i><i>it </i><i>now</i><i>.</i><i>” </i>
Laura’s body felt like it may go limp. Abused! She’d sent her daughter…that never did anything ept beg for her love…to a ce to be abused…in that moment…Laura realized she’d lost any chance of ever being Josie’s mother. She’d hoped that she may be able to redeem herself once Josie came back home; but the truth was clear.
With tears falling down her face; she released Christian’s shirt and walked away; taking onest look at Harold before leaving the foyer. Once she was out of earshot; Jamie began to question Christian.
<i>“</i><i>Chris</i><i>…</i><i>are </i><i>you </i><i>telling </i>me <i>someone </i><i>purposely </i><i>abused </i><i>Josie </i><i>KNOWING </i><i>she </i><i>was </i>a <i>Taylor</i><i>? </i><i>Who would </i>be that bold? That
<i>stu-</i>”
“She’s not a <i>Taylor </i><i>anymore </i><i>Jamie</i>. <i>We </i><i>denounced</i><i>…</i>remember.<i>” </i>
Jamie’s eyes widen with guilt. His voice slightly trembling.
“<i>H</i>–How <b><i>bad </i></b><i>was </i><i>the </i><i>abuse</i><b><i>?</i></b>” <fn6484> For more chapters visit fin?novel</fn6484>
Christian looked directly at him.
“<b><i>You </i></b><i>really </i><i>want </i><i>to </i>know<i>?</i><i>” </i>
Harold remained silent. It was as if over 20 years of regret was crashing into him.
