Ma’s words pulled me out of my thoughts causing me to jerk from being startled. As

she walked towards me she had this beautiful smile on her face.

    <i>“</i><i>That’s the </i><i>second </i><i>time </i><i>I </i><i>nearly </i><i>scared </i><i>you </i><i>to </i><i>death</i>. <i>I’m sorry</i>.<fn2534> Discover more novels at f?i?n?d?n?o?v?e?l?</fn2534>

    <i>“</i><i>No </i><i>worries</i><i>. </i><i>My </i><i>mind </i><i>was </i><i>in another </i><i>ce</i><i>, </i><i>totally </i><i>not </i><i>your </i><i>fault</i><i>.</i><i>” </i>

She smiled as she sat beside me.

    <i>“</i>So<i>, </i><i>the </i><i>brave </i><i>violinist </i><i>is </i><i>also </i><i>a </i><i>pianist </i><i>I </i><i>see</i><i>.</i><i>” </i>

I chuckled at her choice of words remembering the first day we met.

    <i>“</i><i>Emm </i>hmm. <i>I </i><i>y </i><i>a </i><i>little </i><i>of </i><i>the </i><i>drums </i><i>too</i>. <i>Though </i><i>not </i><i>as </i><i>thorough </i><i>as </i><i>the </i><i>violin </i><i>or </i><i>piano</i>.”

    <i>“</i><i>Very </i><i>impressive</i><i>.</i><i>” </i>

She looked around the room for a brief moment before speaking again.

    “<i>This </i><i>room</i>, <i>it </i><i>was </i><i>created </i>for <i>Kai</i>. <i>One </i><i>day</i><i>, </i><i>when </i><i>he </i><i>was </i><i>younger</i>, <i>a </i><i>very </i><i>special </i><i>event </i><i>happened </i><i>to </i><i>him </i><i>causing </i><i>him </i><i>to </i><i>fall </i><i>in </i><i>love </i><i>with </i><i>music</i><i>. </i><i>He’d </i><i>decided </i><i>to </i><i>learn </i><i>the </i><i>piano </i><i>and </i><i>when </i><i>we </i><i>returned </i><i>from </i><i>Conrad</i><i>, </i><i>he </i><i>had </i><i>this </i><i>room </i><i>built</i><i>.</i><i>” </i>

I smiled lightly, we had something inmon! How wonderful would it be if he and I could y something together. Suddenly, a dreadful thought came to mind causing all the

happiness I’d just felt to drain. Sensing the change in my mood, Ma’s eyes widen in

    panic.

I looked at my mother–inw and smiled warily.

    <i>“</i><i>Ma</i><i>, </i><i>I’m </i>so <i>grateful </i><i>for </i><i>you</i><i>. </i><i>All </i><i>of </i><i>you</i><i>. </i><i>My </i><i>greatest </i><i>hope </i><i>is </i><i>that </i>I’ll <i>live </i><i>up </i><i>to </i><i>being </i><i>a </i><i>daughter </i><i>and </i><i>wife </i><i>House Christiansen </i><i>will </i><i>be </i><i>proud </i><i>of</i><b>.</b><i>” </i>

    “Oh, <i>sweetie </i>of <i>course-</i>”

I gently ced my hand on hers; stopping her mid–sentence.

I thought about Jonathan in my previous life. Most of his hatred towards me was because his family all but forced him to marry a woman he wasn’t in love with instead of allowing

I him to be with the woman he did love. And whereas that was no excuse to abuse me, was empathetic to that plight. I didn’t Kai to resent me the same way.

    “<i>When </i><i>Kai </i><i>wakes </i>up, <i>should </i><i>he </i>not <i>feel </i><i>the </i><i>same </i><i>way </i><i>about </i><i>me</i><i>, </i><i>please</i>…<i>don’t </i><i>force </i><i>him </i><i>to </i><i>marry </i>me. <i>I </i><i>promise </i>I’ll <i>spend </i><i>my </i><i>entire </i><i>life </i><i>repaying </i><i>the </i><i>debt </i><i>of </i><i>freedom </i><i>this </i><i>family </i><i>has </i><i>given </i>me<i>. </i><i>But </i><i>I </i><i>don’t </i><i>want Kai </i><i>to </i><i>feel </i><i>responsible</i><i>.</i><i>” </i>

Ma stared at me for a brief moment before speaking a light smile on her face.

    “<i>Oh</i>, <i>my </i><i>darling</i>. <i>You </i><i>have </i><i>no </i><i>idea</i>. <i>However</i>, <i>you </i><i>have </i><i>my </i><i>word</i>. <i>Should </i><i>Kai </i><i>choose </i><i>not to </i><i>marry </i><i>you</i><i>, </i><i>we </i><i>won’t </i><i>force </i><i>him </i><i>otherwise</i><i>.</i><i>” </i>

I stared at Ma for a moment with a puzzled expression. What did I have no idea of? Deciding not to pry any further, I smiled brightly. The most important thing was that she would honor my request.

After I finished up in the music room, I made my way to my suite for bed. The time was now 11:18pm and I wanted to get a good night’s rest for tomorrow.

That night, I dreamt of my mother. I could see her standing in a field of pink roses as she smiled at me brightly. There were wordsing out of her mouth, but I couldn’t make out what she was saying. As she continued to smile, I could see her releasing someone’s hand. If I didn’t know any better, I would have said it was Kai’s.

I woke up in a jolt. It was the first time since my rebirth that I hadn’t had a nightmare about the fire. After my breathing paced, I looked at my phone to check the time.

    7:52am. Perfect.

I got up quickly to shower and get dressed, I would grab something quick to eat and head to the hospital.
