Hunted 16
“Burn those who burned me!”
<b>Chapter </b><b>17 </b>
<i>-Rabena’s </i><b><i>POV</i></b><b>: </b>
It had been over a week since I came back to Covington. Uncle Pete and Sean decided I should be Prd’s new president since Sean was the CEO. In addition, they would bring Damon on as an engineer and inventor after he received his certifications. After meeting with my new staff and getting settled into my office, I pulled out all of the contacts I set in motion for Thomas. The only thing that remained was the finalization of my divorce. Pera informed me Thomas was trying to y hardball. I decided to give him a call myself.
“<i>This </i><i>is </i><i>Thomas </i><i>Lockwood</i><i>.</i><i>” </i>
I froze for a brief moment. A rush of bad memories came flooding in my mind. Five years of being abused and ignored by my family. Over two years of being abused and ignored by my husband. Shaking my head as if to clear my mind, I began to speak.
“<i>Hello </i><i>Thomas</i>.<b>” </b>
Pause.
<i>“</i><i>Rabena</i><i>? </i><i>Rabena </i><i>is </i><i>that </i><i>you</i><i>!? </i><i>Where </i><i>are </i><i>you</i><i>! </i><i>What’s </i><i>going </i><i>on</i>? <i>Why </i><i>did </i><i>you-</i>”
I cut Thomas off mid–sentence, I wasn’t here to y 21 questions or catch up.
“Thomas, when do you n on signing the divorce papers<b>?</b><b>” </b>
Thomas let out an exasperated sigh.
<i>“</i>Did <i>your </i><iwyer </i><i>not </i>inform <i>you</i><i>? </i>I’m <i>not </i>si-”
“Yes you are. Sign <i>the </i><i>papers </i><i>Thomas</i>. I’m <i>trying </i><i>my </i><i>best </i><i>to </i><i>be </i><i>as </i><i>amicable </i><i>as </i>possible. <i>If </i>you don’t sign the papers, not <i>only </i><i>will </i>I <i>inform </i><i>your </i><i>grandmother </i><i>of </i><i>your </i><i>affair </i><i>with </i><i>Danielle</i><i>, </i><i>but </i>I’ll also go straight to the press and <i>tell </i><i>them </i><i>all </i><i>how </i><i>you </i><i>almost </i>murdered me for <i>her</i>. <i>Think </i>your reputation <i>will </i>be able to withstand that?”
Thomas almost grinded his teeth to dust. When did Rabena get so bold; but she was also right. If she went to his grandmother and the press, he would be ruined. Thomas had no choice but to relent to her demand.
“Fine! I’ll sign <i>the </i>got <i>damn </i><i>papers</i><i>. </i><i>Mark </i><i>my </i>words Rabena, <i>you </i><i>will </i><i>surely-</i>”
“That’s all for <i>now </i><i>Mr. </i>Lockwood, <i>thank </i>you.”
Rabena hung up her phone before Thomas could finish his thoughts. The next call she made was to Aaron Michaels of MGT Corp. This was the first corporation Rabena had a set a meeting up with for Thomas.
“<i>Thank </i>you for calling MGT Corp, this is Allison speaking, how may I direct your call<i>?</i><i>” </i>
<i>“</i>Good morning, <i>my </i><i>name </i>is Rabena Price. I’d like to be transferred to Aaron Michaels if possible.”
The receptionist paused for a brief moment before speaking.
<i>“</i><i>Absolutely </i><i>Ms. </i>Price, <i>allow </i>me one moment <i>to </i><i>transfer </i><i>you</i><i>.</i><i>” </i>
As I listened to the hold music I began reminiscing about MGT Corp. MGT was a major hotel and resort conglomerate. I’d been to their hotels and resorts many times growing up with my parents and the designing was amazing. Prd actually handled all of their Techware including keypads, TVs,puters, etc. I originally thought of them for Thomas because the Lockwoods specialized in architecture and design. I figured getting him a huge contract like this would help them go global. Too bad he was such a dick because that ship sailed. A few momentster a male voice answered knocking my train of thought.
“<i>Hello </i><i>Ms. </i><i>Price</i><i>?</i>”
<i>“</i><i>Yes</i><i>! </i>Am I <i>speaking </i><i>with </i><i>Chairman </i><i>Michaels</i><i>?</i>”
<i>“</i><i>Actually</i><i>, </i><i>my </i>name <i>is </i><i>Vincent </i><i>Holmes</i>, I’m <i>chairman </i><i>Michaels’s </i><i>assistant</i>. <i>The </i><i>chairman </i><i>would </i>like <i>to </i><i>apologize </i><i>for </i><i>not </i><i>being </i><i>able </i><i>to </i><i>take </i><i>this </i><i>immediate </i><i>call </i>as <i>he </i><i>is </i><i>currently </i><i>in </i><i>a </i><i>meeting</i><i>.</i>”
“Oh, <i>that’s </i><i>alright</i><i>, </i><i>I </i><i>know </i><i>I </i><i>called </i><i>at </i><i>short-</i><i>” </i>
Vincent cut Rabena off before she could finish her sentence. <fn9887> Find the newest release on fin?novel</fn9887>
“<i>He </i><i>would </i><i>however </i><i>like </i>to <i>meet </i><i>with </i><i>you </i>for <i>dinner </i><i>to </i>discuss <i>the </i><i>purpose </i><i>of </i><i>your </i>call<i>.</i>”
Rabena eyes bulged from shock. She hadn’t expected a dinner invitation. Nervously, she began to speak.
“U–<i>Um</i>, <i>sure</i>. I <i>can </i>do <i>dinner</i>. <i>What </i><i>day </i><i>was </i><i>he </i><i>expecting</i>?”
“This <i>evening </i><i>if </i><i>it’s </i><i>not </i>too <i>short </i><i>a </i><i>notice</i>.<i>” </i>
This evening!
<i>“</i><i>Y</i>–Yes. <i>I </i>can do <i>this </i><i>evening</i>. <i>Please </i><i>send </i><i>all </i><i>of the </i><i>details </i><i>to </i><i>my </i><i>assistant</i>.<i>” </i>
“Will do. A pleasure <i>speaking </i><i>with </i><i>you </i><i>Ms. </i><i>Price</i><i>.</i>”
“You as well, please tell <i>Mr. </i><i>Michaels </i><i>thank </i><i>you</i><i>.</i><i>” </i>
After I hung up with Vincent, I immediately called Pera.
<i>“</i>WHAT!!! You have a dinner <i>date </i><i>with </i>Aaron Michaels<i>!!</i><i>” </i>
“<i>It’s </i>not a date! It’s a business meeting.
Pera let out a loud scoff.
“Meeting <i>my </i>butt! If he wanted a meeting he could have just had youe to his office.”
Pera had a point, why did he want to discuss something so trivial after work hours, still, maybe this was just how the great Aaron Michaels conducted business. I’d only met him once, but I knew a great deal about him. Aaron was the youngest chairman of our generation obtaining the title after his grandfather passed and his the current chairman at the time retired following a triple bypass surgery. The oldest son to Alvin and Lina Michaels, Aaron was basically a prodigy. Our parents were actually close friends, but because he was a few years older than me and studied abroad, we never got a chance to cross paths. Although she was younger than me, I’d been pretty close to his sister Lisa up until my parents passed from a tragic car ident. Shortly after, I was taken to Banton to meet my family from hell.
Now I was about to have dinner with the infamous chairman prodigy himself, I could feel my nerves rising from the thought. I hadn’t seen him since I was 15. Suddenly, Pera’s talking knocked me back to reality.
“<i>Do </i><i>you </i><i>have </i>an <i>overall </i><i>n </i><i>of </i><i>what </i><i>you’re </i><i>going </i><i>to </i>do <i>once </i><i>you </i>meet <i>with </i>him?<i>” </i>
That was a good question. I hadn’t thought of anything past voiding a meeting, but that wouldn’t be enough to take Thomas down and ruin his chances of being CEO. I would need to do something that would really piss Grandmother Lynn off. I wasn’t sure if divorce would be enough.
