I didn’t look back.
Seeing me ignore himpletely, Camden lost his shit and came charging over.
“Sage, you fucking-”
His eyes moved past me to Marcus standing there.
Words died in his throat.
He looked between Marcus’s ice–cold expression and me, quickly switching gears with a politician’s smile: “Mr. Sterling, so sorry about my wife’s behavior.”
I almostughed out loud.
Camden squeezed my hand tighter–a clear warning that he was barely holding back his rage.
Like I gave a damn.
I was about to wrench free when Vera came stumbling out, having just woken up.
She immediately zeroed in on Camden holding my hand.
New grudges piling on old ones, she pointed at me and exploded: “Sage, you bitch! How dare you y me like that! I hope you fucking-”
“Mr. Ashworth.”
Before she could finish cursing me out, Marcus spoke up.
He looked at Vera like she was roadkill.
His voice wasn’t loud, but every person there heard him crystal clear: “Seems like you can’t control the people around you, bringing any kind of trash to a business venue. Embarrassing.”
“Looks like our partnership needs a serious review.”
It hit Camden like a p across the face.
His face went beet red instantly.
Everyone there was trying not tough.
They all got the message loud and clear–Marcus was calling Camden’s taste in women absolute garbage, saying he wasn’t worth doing business with.

Vera was too stupid to know who she was dealing with and got right in his face: “Who the hell do you think you are, talking to Camden like that!”
Camden’s face went dark. He spun around and roared at her: “This isn’t your ce to speak–shut your mouth!”
Vera froze like he’d pped her.
Camden took a deep breath and waved over the manager: “What are you standing around for? Escort Mr. Sterling to
the venue!”
He turned back, trying to smooth things over: “Mr. Sterling, she doesn’t know any better-”
Marcus let out a coldugh, walked right past us, and kept going.
Camden had beenpletely humiliated and furiously dropped my hand.
Eyes like ice: “Look what you’ve done. If it weren’t for you, why would I have to take that kind of shit from Marcus?”
His logic was simple as always: Marcus looked down on me, so naturally he wouldn’t give Camden any respect either.
Camden started to chase after the Sterling Industries crew, but Vera grabbed his sleeve: “Camden, do you think I embarrassed you?”
He wanted to shake her off, but seeing her about to cry, he swallowed his anger and softened his voice: “Don’t overthink it. We’ll talk at home.”
I was too disgusted to watch their nauseating little drama anymore.
I got the hell out of there.
