Chapter <b>4 </b>
Everything changed the next Saturday.
Jake wanted family bonding time at the stables.
Carson was psyched ‘cause Sophia promised to teach him to ride.
I couldn’t ride for shit, so I just watched.
Carson looked like a little prince on this white pony, Sophia leading him around.
“Miss Sophia, am I doing it right?”
“You’re perfect<b>, </b>sweetie!”
She kept checking to make sure Jake was watching her be the perfect mom.
Theirughter made me sick.
Jake came over: “See how great they are together? Sophia’s amazing with kids.”
“Yeah,” I said, watching my son love someone else.
Then the pony freaked out and reared up.
Carson screamed and hit the ground.
Everyone froze.
I stopped thinking and started running.
<b>“</b>CARSON!”
Sophia was screaming too, got there first.
“Carson, baby, are you hurt? Tell me where it hurts!<b>” </b>Crying like her heart was breaking.
Carson was terrified, sobbing.
I tried to get close but he shoved me away.
“Get away from me! I hate you! You did this! You scared my horse!”
I was standing like twenty feet away. Hadn’t done jack shit.
But Carson was pointing at me, crying like I’d tried to kill him.
Jake came running over and snatched Carson right out of Sophia’s arms.
“Where’s it hurt, buddy? You okay?”
“Daddy, it was her! She gave my horse the <b>evil </b>eye and scared him!” Carson was bawling, pointing his little finger straight at me.

Chapter <b>4 </b>
Jake looked at me like I was a monster.
“ra, what the fuck did you do?”
I just stood there with my mouth hanging open.
“Nothing!” I said, “I was just standing here!”
Sophia was shaking, hugging herself: <b>“</b>It’s not Miss Montgomery’s fault, Jake. Maybe I didn’t hold the lead rope tight enough. It’s my fault. Carson, don’t be scared, honey.”
She was all gentle with Carson,forting him and shit, but kept side–eyeing me like she was scared I’d call her out.
Academy Award performance right there.
Made it look like I was the jealous psycho birth mom trying to hurt my own kid.
“You’re fucking pathetic, ra.” Jake’s voice could freeze hell. “I don’t give a shit <b>if </b>you’re pissed at me–don’t you dare take it out on
him.”
The asshole was right there with me the whole time. He fucking knew I didn’t do anything.
Didn’t even give me a chance to say anything–just threw me under the bus.
He picked up Carson and walked off without looking back.
Sophia followed but stopped next to me, whispered:
“Listen up, bitch. This isn’t your house, Carson isn’t your kid anymore, and Jake sure as hell isn’t your husband. They’re all mine.”
I stood there while everyone stared and whispered about the crazydy.
Now I got it-
I waspletely alone here.
