“Are you out of your mind?” Grayson spat, his voice slicing through the air and making a few heads turn, but he didn’t care that people were watching and just wanted tosh out at me. “Look what you did to my wife!”
He held up Tiffany’s wrist for me to see and I spotted a huge red mark which wasn’t there before. I knew right away that she’d done that to herself but made it convincing enough so he’d buy into her performance.
I opened my mouth with a hundred things to say and a hundred ways to defend myself, but the second I heard the rage in his tone, my words just crumbled in my throat. It wasn’t just that he believed whatever Tiffany had said to him, it was that he didn’t even ask me. He didn’t give a shit about my side of the story and that cut deep.
“Can’t you just fucking move on?” He scowled.
My eyebrows furrowed. Move on from what? From years of friendship that he easily threw away?
“You just had to go this far to get my attention, right?”
“What?” My voice was barely above a whisper.
“I told you to stay away from us, that’s why I blocked you everywhere. You knew that the only way to get my attention was toe after my wife.”
Tiffany wrapped her hand around his arm, her face now resting on his chest while she was still fake crying. I spotted the smirk and that only infuriated me even more. If only he could look down at her, he’d see what I saw. But why would he when he was so focused onshing out at
me?
“Right now, you’re a lot of things,” he said, grabbing my attention again, “but what I didn’t expect was for you to be this cruel to someone who’s pregnant. How could you push her to the floor like that?”
“Did she tell you what exactly hap-”
“I don’t give a shit what happened!” He cut me off with gritted teeth. “You hurt her. That’s all that matters.”
“She’s the one who was provoking me,” I retorted as I shot her a re. “She constantly called Anna a whore, trying to bait me, but I didn’t fall for it. I walked away.”

“Aren’t you ashamed of yourself for making up such lies?” Tiffany chimed in, her voice filled with practiced innocence. She pressed her hand against her chest like she was barely holding herself together. “If that’s what really happened, how do you exin the marks on my wrist?”
I exhaled sharply. “You did that to yourself.”
Grayson scoffed. “Now you just sound ridiculous. I don’t even know why I’m still listening to you when I know you’ll make anything up just to paint yourself as the victim in all this. This is yourst warning, I’m not going to let anyone hurt my wife, not when she’s carrying our little one. Try this again and I’ll get you arrested.”
My heart broke into a million pieces. He actually threatened me with no hesitation. The fact that he took it that far left me at a loss for words even when I parted my lips to speak
“Look at you now, that definitely shut you up,” he said mockingly.
“Actually, no.” I held my head high, making him tilt his head a little in surprise. “I was just processing how dumb you are. You’vebelled me like some kind of obsessed freak but let me make one thing clear. My world doesn’t revolve around you. If I gave you that impression before…” I stepped closer, my eyes locked on his. “Wake the fuck up. I seriously don’t care if you never speak to me again. All I’ve ever done is look out for you, but you’ve never given a damn.”
Just for a few seconds, his hardened expression cracked and I caught a flicker of something else which vanished as quickly as it came.
Poking his cheek, he said, “Enough of you ying this guardian angel. I never asked you to be
one.”
“I think I’ve heard enough.” My voice slightly trembled from restraint as I moved to the side.
But he moved along with me and blocked my way. “You’re not going anywhere because we’re not done he-”
“Fuck off!” I cut his words in half as I shoved him to the side.
“Babe!” Tiffany gasped as she rushed to him. “How dare you?” She shot me a re.
I stormed off with long strides before either of them could stop me, my heart pounding hard with fury and pain.
He called out my name from behind me in a sharp andmanding tone, warning me over and over again to stay away from the two of them and she chimed in with a warning of her
own.
I was deeply hurt as I could still hear every cruel word he’d said to me, but unlike thest time

that he took her side when I tried to expose her, I didn’t shed a single tear.
When I returned to the table, E and Zoey leaned forward with concern.

“Not long after you left to head to thedies‘ room, that bitch got up too,” Zoey said quickly with a clenched fist on the table. “I wanted to follow her right away, but E stopped me. She believed you could handle it on your own.”
“E was right.” I gave them a small smile, trying to keep my voice light.
“But why do you look so sad?” Zoey’s gaze narrowed.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about. I’m okay.”
They nced at each other like they didn’t believe me for a second, then faced me and spoke in unison.
“No, you’re not
I sighed heavily in defeat, slumping in my chair as there was no need to pretend. They knew me too well, so I told them what had gone down in the bathroom and hallway.
“You know what? Forget about those two assholes.” E gasped as soon as she said it. “I can call him that too, right?”
My phone buzzed with an unexpected text from Maddox that put a genuine smile on my face and as I epted his invitation with a quick reply, I firmly said, “Of course you can. That’s exactly what Grayson is now.”
