My forehead creased at how he had the nerve to say that to me.

“I’m the one who shut you out? Are you sure about that?” I raised my voice a little, making the few customers turn their heads towards us. “Well, damn, people can’t just mind their own business

My voice was quiet and softer now, making him chuckle,

“You know what? I’m sorry I said it like that. We’re here now and that’s what matters,” he said.

I nodded in agreement. “So, tell me about all the shitty decisions you ever made. I’d like to hear them.

He grinned, clearing his throat before he began to speak.

As I listened to him, I watched his face the whole time. That was the longest I had ever been with him since my return. I had missed out on so much and it was the same for him when I began to tell him all about college.

“Hold on, you actually dated that guy?” He tilted his head with amusement.

“Yeah and that was two years ago.”

“Everything you said made it sound like the guy really loved you.”

    “He really did.”

“But your heart just wasn’t there.”

“Exactly and I thought it was better not to lead him on.”

“Maybe you did that a bit too soon.” He leaned forward. “Don’t you know that sometimes, you fall in love with someone as time goes by?”

“I did give it time, but it just didn’t happen.”

“For how long were you guys together?”

    “Six months.”

    “And everything was good?”

    “It was great.”

    :

    “Even the sex?” He smirked.

I gave him a side eye. “Of course. He was just my type. He had everything I was looking for in a guy, but the heart wants what it wants.”

“Exactly, just look at Tiffany and I.”

    I balled

my hand into a fist so I wouldn’t m the counter. Why did he have to bring her into the conversation? It made me so mad, but I exhaled slowly not to show it.

“Yeah? What about her?” I asked with fake enthusiasm.

“So many things about her turn me off – she’s mean to most of the people she just considers servants, throws tantrums like a child and doesn’t care about consequences. Even with all that, there are so many things I still love about her. The heart really wants what it wants.”

    way

At that moment, I regretted the fact that I let the conversation about her keep going. The he spoke about her shattered my heart so much that I ced three shot sses right in front of me, poured whiskey in all three and took the first shot so it could burn my throat.

I didn’t even put down the ss and was already bringing another one to my lips when he ced his hand on my wrist.

“Whoa, slow down,” he chuckled in surprise, taking the ss for me.

“Why?” My eyes narrowed at his wedding ring. “Aren’t we here to have a good time?”

“Yeah, but not like this. I see what you’re doing here.” He nodded, like he’d just figured it out.

    “What?”

I was fuming inside, but when he leaned closer and smiled at me, I melted.

“You’re doing this on purpose.” He smirked. “You want to get as drunk as you can know that no matter what, I’ll take care of you.

    because you

Having him that close wasn’t good for me, so I leaned back, picking up the shot ss that was on the counter and bringing it to my lips. “You’re right about that, so cheers!”

I hadn’t heard half of what Grayson had been talking about as the whiskey made me feel like I was going to pass out. I even rested my head on the counter for support.

I could barely hold a ss and when he spotted me almost dropping it, he reached for it and

    :

put it back on the counter.

“I think that’s enough now. You might start throwing up all over me.” He teased me. “How about…”

He trailed off when his phone began to ring on the counter. I looked over and it was Tiffany. He just watched it for a while, like he didn’t know what to do.

“Well, are you going to pick up?” Izily asked him.

He looked away from the screen. “You turned off your phone before we even left your ce and I should’ve done the same.” He rose to his feet, then stood right beside me when he was real close and said, “I’ll call her backter. Wanna know why?”

“Why?” My breath was a little heavy.

Wrapping his arm around my waist, he said, “Because I’m not yet done with you. I’m taking you home. Let’s go.”

His breath, his touch, the heating from his body and the look in his eyes all made me feel like I could fuck him right there. It must’ve been the alcohol, which was why I still tried to fight it.

“Can I get one more bottle?” I pouted.

    “No. We’re leaving right now.”

    “But-”

    “I said no.”

His voice was gentle as he pulled me up from my seat. I could barely stand on my own and when I almost fell over, he stood right behind me, wrapping his arms around me. The back of my head rested against his chest and I could feel the vibrations of his voice against my ear.

“You’re drunk as fuck. This is exactly what I was talking about.”

    I giggled.

    “You think this is funny?”

    “I’m just d you’re here.”

I looked back at him as I said it and felt so bold that I could do anything, and yet, when I gazed at his lips, I still couldn’t go for it.

“We should… we should go,” I said, finally looking away.

    …

It took everything in me to keep myself under control.

“I’m never letting you drink like this again.” He led me to the exit.

    “No one’s gonna stop me!”

    “Shut up.” He grinned.

He opened the car door for me, still standing by my side to make sure I didn’t fall over while getting in.

He closed the door, making his way to the other side so he could get to the driver’s seat.

I rested my head against my seat and couldn’t stop swooning over him. I told myself that I could do whatever I wanted that evening and I could just me it on the alcohol. It was that simple and yet I still didn’t have the guts to even kiss him on the cheek.

When he got in, I watched him fasten his seatbelt, then he paused when he looked over at me.

“Shouldn’t you have fastened your seatbelt by now?” He sighed.

    “Oh…that.”

“You know what? Just sit still and I’ll do it for you.”

When he leaned closer and began to fasten the seatbelt for me. I could feel the heating from his breath right on my corbone. His lips were so close to mine that all I had to do was hold the sides of his face and kiss him, but once again, I just sat there and did nothing.

The ride home began and it was quiet at first until I said something.

    “Thanks.”

“For what?” He kept his eyes on the road.

“I really needed this, with you.”

“Me too. I know I say this a lot, but I missed you and today was different.”

    “So…are we doing this again?”

“Do you even have to ask? Of course we are. This is just the beginning. It’ll be like old times. again. That reminds me, I want you to listen to this.”

He only continued to drive and I felt like I was waiting for nothing.

“You want me to listen to what?”

He pressed a few buttons on the dashboard and when a certain song began to y, my eyes widened as I sat up with a gasp.

“This used to be our song!” I squealed with delight.

“It’s still our song. It always reminded me of you each time I yed it. I know we stopped being as close as we were before, but I never stopped thinking about you”

I’d heard him say that so many times, but why did it sound so much better now that I was drunk?

He kept his eyes on the road as he began singing and I was so lost in his side profile that I just watched him.

“Come on, sing!” He nudged my shoulder.

I snapped out of it, joining in on the fun while still watching him. He turned up the volume and as the song progressed, it came to the part where we usually shared the lines like it was a duet. I wondered if he’d remember which lines belonged to me and to my surprise, he did.

It made me so happy that I sang at the top of my lungs.

When we got to my ce, he didn’t just drop me off by the doorstep and leave. He took me upstairs while still holding me close.

Even when we made it to my bedroom and I sat down on the bed, he did it with me while still holding me close, his hand perfectly ced around my waist. The set up was perfect and my thoughts ran wild.

“Are you gonna be okay?” he asked, looking down at me while I rested the back of my head on

    his chest.

    “I think so.” I giggled.

“I’d stay for a few hours, but I need to meet my father–inw. Tiffany doesn’t know it yet, but tomorrow evening, we’re going to London to see Maddox. He wants them to talk things out and work on their rtionship. Don’t say anything to him.”

    “My lips are sealed.”

I turned my head to look up at him, my gazending on his lips.

Once again, he was so close that I could feel his breath. I only needed to lean in and I would finally taste his lips, maybe even straddle him and do everything I’d always imagined.

His grip on my waist tightened just a little and that had me fired up even more. He didn’t look away, like he was waiting and that was my chance. But even though I’d wished for that for

years and everything was perfect, I asked myself,

    was it worth it?
