‘Could it be… Joshua and Richard were once a couple?‘ she wondered.
But Joshua had always said she was the only woman he’d ever loved.
‘Yeah, the only woman,‘ she thought.
‘Only woman, huh.‘
‘Guess men don’t count.
Xylia remembered how Joshua would tense up, like he was going to battle for his life, every time he ran into Richard.
And he’d always make sure she kept her distance from Richard.
The deeper she thought about it, the scarier it got.
After Xavi left, Xylia couldn’t sit still.
When Joshua finally woke up, he saw Xylia sitting in her chair with a furrowed brow, fidgeting restlessly and shifting from side to side as if her seat had suddenly turned ufortable.
“Xylia,” Joshua called out softly.
Xylia stiffened, almost as if she’d been caught off guard, and turned to Joshua. But her eyes held no warmth, not even the slightest hint of happiness.
Joshua sat up slowly.
It had been ages since he’d been sick, and this fever had really taken a toll on him.
Even though the fever had broken, his head was still muddled and heavy, like someone had stuffed it with cotton, leaving him feeling restless and uneasy.
Thinking Xylia was still upset, he reached out to her, hoping tofort her.
Xylia hesitated for a moment before getting up and walking over to him, cing her hand in his.
“You’re awake. Does your head still hurt?” she asked softly.
Joshua pulled her into a gentle hug, leaning his head on her shoulder, acting a little needy.
“It still hurts,” he whispered, his tone low and affectionate as he deliberately nuzzled against Xylia’s cheek.
Xylia pursed her lips, staying silent, not sure how to react to Joshua clinging to her.
:
Honestly, looking at Joshua right now, he was giving off major straight guy energy.
She wasn’t stupid–anyone could tell how much he loved her.

‘Did Joshua get so wounded by his thing with Richard that the heartbreak knocked him straight? Xylia couldn’t help but wonder.
Her imagination started running wild again.
Now that Joshua and Richard were officially done, and judging from the way Joshua was acting, he definitely wasn’t about to go back there.
‘Guess I’d better just y dumb and pretend I have no clue, Xylia mused. ‘Guys like Joshua care a lot about their pride, after all.‘
After thinking it through for ages, she chose to keep quiet and act clueless.
Xylia reached up and stroked Joshua’s hair, her eyes full of concern. “Your headache will be gone once you’re better. Hungry? Want me to get you something to eat?”
Joshua grinned and replied, “Yeah, I could eat,” still hugging her tightly and refusing to let go.
Xylia gave his back a gentle pat. “Alright, let go now, I’ll run and grab you some food.”
‘Why is he back to his puppy mode again?‘ Xylia thought.
Joshua nuzzled against her shoulder for a while longer before finally letting go.
But even then, he kept holding onto her hand, like he just couldn’t get enough of her.
It had been days since they’d hooked up, sost night things definitely got out of hand.
Even after Xylia fell asleep, Joshua found himself still craving more. He ended up standing under a cold shower for half an hour just trying to chill out.
He hadn’t counted on that little stunt ending with him getting a full–blown fever.
Once she finished ordering takeout, Xylia kept hold of Joshua’s hand and asked, “So, will you finallye clean about what really went downst night? How did Noelle manage to drug you?”
Just thinking aboutst night made Joshua’s expression darken.
When Joshua took a sip from the water Richard handed him, he immediately tasted something weird. Right then, he called Richard out and tried to figure out a way to get the hell out of there.
Richard’s whole scheme was to drug him and send some random woman in, hoping Xylia would walk in, see the mess, and think Joshua was cheating on her.
It wasn’t until Joshua bumped into Noelle at the door that it all clicked–Noelle and Richard were in on it together, setting him up.
So, he kicked Noelle, too.

That bought him just enough time to rush back to the room and see Xylia before anything else could happen.
Joshua never nned on using Xylia as the antidote, but by the time he stumbled back, he was practically out
of it.
When Xylia sshed him with cold water to snap him out of it, he realized the hot spring resort was way too far from the hospital.
Seeing Xylia all worked up, Joshua knew he couldn’t just leave her alone to stew in her thoughts.
So, unable to fight the effects of the drug, he couldn’t help but get intimate with her.
Joshua said angrily, “Noelle just won’t change, always using these low–down tricks to mess with me. There’s no way I’m letting her walk away from this.”
Xylia’s heart gave a little lurch–Joshua hadn’t breathed a single word about Richard. ‘Why’s he dodging that part?‘ she wondered.
‘It’s obvious he’s keeping something from me, Xylia thought, feeling a twist of annoyance.
Joshua immediately caught the shift in Xylia’s expression–he was always sharp about these things.
“Are you still mad?” he asked gently.
“Of course I’m mad!” Xylia shot back, ring at him as she pulled her hand away.
Xylia yanked her hand out of Joshua’s grip and snapped, clearly pissed.
“So what, the minute she calls, you go running in the middle of the night? Then you just drink whatever she hands you–even when you know she’s into you? Seriously, Joshua, ever heard of keeping your distance?” Xylia’s voice was sharp as she let it all out.
She was definitely making a mountain out of a molehill now, practically fuming with anger.
Joshua knew this wasing if he didn’t exin himself.
But he was determined to keep Xylia and Richard far away from each other for good.
He tried to hold Xylia’s hand, but she just slipped out of reach, squaring her shoulders and staring off to the side, clearly not interested in dealing with him right now.
“I know I screwed up. I crossed the line this time–promise I won’t let it happen again,” Joshua said, sounding genuinely remorseful.
Xylia snorted. “Joshua, you know what they say–once it happens, it’s bound to happen again. If you’re really tired of me, just be honest.”
Xylia was pissed about all the secrets Joshua kept from her, so she took out all her anger on him, not holding back as her words came out sharp.

Joshua knew this wasn’t just another fight—he couldn’t just shrug it off this time. When his integrity and loyalty were put on the line, his face grew instantly serious.
“Xylia, do you honestly think I’m the kind of guy who’d just move on from woman to woman?” Joshua said, his voice tight with frustration and hurt.
“All men are alike–how can I ever be sure about you?” Xylia snapped back, bitterness clear in her voice.
Joshua stared at Xylia’s frosty expression, feeling like his heart was being torn to shreds. It hurt like hell.
Ignoring Xylia’s struggling, Joshua held her firmly by the shoulders, forcing her to meet his eyes.
“I’ve loved you for more than ten years, chased after you all this time, and finally got you by my side. Do you really think I’d ever look at anyone else?” Joshua said, voice heavy with emotion.
“Don’t give me that–those are just words,” Xylia snapped, icy and relentless.
Joshua froze, lips pressed together in silence, pletely at a loss for what to say.
Not a single word left his mouth.
Seeing Joshua so defeated, Xylia couldn’t help but feel her heart ache for him.
She pushed his hands away and turned her back to him.
Joshua had promised her he’d never keep secrets from her again.
But here he was, breaking that promise first. Ever since Richard showed up, Joshua had been hiding so much from her.
She just felt miserable inside.
And to make matters worse, she couldn’t help but feel a little jealous whenever it came to Richard and whatever history he had with Joshua.
The silence in the hospital room hung heavy for a long time. Then, all of a sudden, Joshua tossed aside the covers and got out of bed.
Xylia finally turned around, her tone tense. “Where are you going?”
“I’m going to settle the score with Noelle right now,” Joshua said sharply, anger simmering in his eyes.
Richard’s next.
They’d actually schemed together and made Xylia question his loyalty. He’d never let them get away with that.
‘Unforgivable!‘ Joshua fumed to himself.
Xylia scrambled to block his way, grabbing his arm. “Joshua, you’re still sick! What’s the point of picking a fight now? Get back in bed!”
“I’m fine,” Joshua shot back, shaking off her hand.
He ignored her and strode straight for the door.

Xylia gave Joshua a good smack right on the forehead–his fuzzy brain was spinning even more now.
“Oh, so you’re Mr. Tough Guy all of a sudden? Fever just broke and now you wanna y hero?” Xylia shot back, eyes zing. “Let me deal with Noelle. The real problem here is you! Get your butt back in bed and take a long, hard look at yourself!”
Joshua clutched his forehead, giving Xylia that pitiful, kicked–puppy look.
