“Xylia, Sonny is the son you carried for nine months. How can you treat him this way just because of another

    kid?” Tessa said.

Sonny couldn’t help but feel wronged. “Yeah, I’m your real son. We’re family, you know. Why are you taking an outsider’s side just to gang up on me?”

Xylia looked at them with icy indifference, her gaze lingering especially on Sonny.

“My real son? Blood? Really?” Xylia let out a dry, mockingugh.

‘How ironic those words sound, evening from me,‘ she thought to herself.

    “Didn’t

you always say you liked Tessa? You kept pestering everyone, saying you wanted her to be your mom. Now you’ve finally got what you wanted–what’s wrong, not happy after all?”

Sonny’s face darkened, a hint of embarrassment creeping in.

Faced with Xylia’s cold question, he just stood there, unable toe up with anyeback.

‘Well, that was what I said before… How can I argue with that?‘ Sonny thought, feeling helpless.

But before, Xylia Schultz had never talked to him this sharply, not even when he screwed up.

Thinking about it, Sonny still felt a little wronged.

The cake shop wasn’t all that busy, so hardly anyone was paying much attention to Xylia and the others. The staff pretended to be working, but you could tell they were really just watching the drama unfold.

Tessa couldn’t help but sneer at Xylia. “Geez, Xylia, you’re way too old–school now, picking fights with a kid?”

Then she lowered her gaze to Sonny, eyes full of gentle warmth as she gave his little hand a soft squeeze.

“You were always drilling him with study and homework when you were raising Sonny. Things aren’t like the old days, you know. If you don’t let kids rx sometimes, it messes with their growth. Turns out you pushed him so hard he ended up wanting me–an outsider–as his mom, and now you y the victim?”

‘Wow, Tessa really gets me, Sonny thought, feeling like she’d said exactly what he’d been thinking all along.

    “That’s right!‘ he told himself.

‘Mom is always on my back–not letting me y, just making me study all the time.’

‘Only Tessa ever tells me that learning isn’t everything and kids should just have fun and be themselves.

That’s why he started to resent how Mom was always hovering–picking him up from school like clockwork, controlling what he ate, fussing over when he slept and even how he spent his downtime.

Sonny felt he wasn’t wrong at all.

‘It’s Xylia who never knew how to be a real mom. That’s why I ended up hating her!‘ he told himself.

I’m not the one at fault here!‘

“That’s right! You’re the reason I can’t even like you as my mom. It’s all your fault!” Sonny blurted out, frustration simmering in his voice.

Even now, Xylia felt her heart turn to ice over Sonny–she was justpletely let down by him.

Connor was an only child, the sole heir to the Ford family.

And Sonny was Connor’s only son.

In a family business like Ford Group, if they didn’t start training the heir from day one, who was supposed to inherit all that wealth and power?

Since Sonny was just a kid, Connor had been all about raising him as the next boss of Ford Group–and grandpa Orion was always piling on the homework, whether Sonny knew it or not.

It was Xylia, relying entirely on herself, who carefully managed Sonny’s schedule, just so he’d finally have a little room to breathe.

Since Sonny had mild food allergies, Xylia learned to cook from scratch and nned every meal just so he could stay safe and healthy.

She’d devoted seven years of her life to Sonny, doing everything for him–never in her wildest dreams expecting she’d end up raising an ungrateful brat.

But that was all water under the bridge now.

Xylia waspletely done with Sonny—she didn’t have a shred of feeling left for him.

“If you don’t even like me, then what’s the point ofing here?” Xylia said calmly, her tone chilly and distant, clearly uninterested in their pointless drama.

Her gaze was frosty, making it obvious she had no intention of dragging things out with them over meaningless talk.

    Sonny felt even more frustrated.

Be stood silently next to Xylia, barely making a sound.

When Sonny shot her a death re, she shrank back a little and clung tighter to Xylia’s hand, clearly freaked

    out.

Sonny stared daggers at Be’s hand holding Xylia’s, and he could feel his anger bubbling up again.

Tessa held Sonny’s hand and gave Xylia a friendly, almost mocking smile.

“Sonny just got to Norhill today, and I was nning to let him meet his actual mom. But looking at things now, seems like there’s no point,” she said.

Xylia nodded without hesitation. “Honestly, there’s no reason for you to show up here anymore. Just stay away -you’re not wee.”

Tessa was left speechless by Xylia’s words, stiffening for a moment before shooting her a resentful re.

Xylia remained perfectly indifferent, her expression showing she couldn’t care less–like she was talking to someonepletely irrelevant.

Xylia was a whole new woman now. Gone was the meek, spineless version of her–these days, she exuded self- assurance, sharp and in control like someone running the show. Herplexion glowed with health, and her style was seriously upgraded; she looked vibrant, confident, and fashion–forward.

‘She must have scored some major backingtely, Tessa thought, a twinge of envy crossing her mind. ‘No. wonder she’s walking around so fearless.’

Tessa stepped right up to Xylia, staring her down. “So, Xylia, you really think getting close to Mr. Garcia is gonna let you sleep easy for the rest of your life? Or do you seriously believe the Garcia Group’s glory willst forever?”

Xylia just met her gaze, cold and silent.

Tessa scoffed, “Better cherish it while itsts–won’t be yours for much longer.”

With those words, Tessa took Sonny by the hand and headed out.

Before leaving, Sonny couldn’t resist onest look back at Xylia and Be.

But whatever bit of reluctance lingered in his heart was chewed up by rage, and he stormed out after Tessa without looking back.

With Tessa and Sonny gone, the cake shop finally returned to its usual calm.

Be gently shook Xylia’s hand, her voice soft and curious. “Sis, was that boy really your son?”

Xylia was drawn out of her distant thoughts by Be’s innocent question. For a moment, she hesitated, then answered with little emotion.

“Not anymore. Come on–let’s just enjoy our cake.”

    She sat back down.

But Tessa’s parting words kept echoing in her mind.

‘Why’d she mention the Garcia Group and then tell me to cherish what I have? Is something about to go down with Joshua? Xylia wondered, feeling uneasy.

‘Could something bad be happening to Joshua?‘ Xylia thought, a chill creeping down her spine.

But Xylia quickly shook her head, trying to dismiss that unsettling thought swirling in her mind.

‘Come on, by herself, Tessa could never actually hurt the Ford Group, Xylia reminded herself.

And anyway, Joshua was a tough nut to crack–he wasn’t the type to get steamrolled by anybody.

‘No point stressing over it,‘ Xylia said to herself, forcing her nerves to settle down.

Over on their side, Tessa led Sonny out and got him into the car.

Once they were in the car, Tessa ignored Sonnypletely, settling into her seat and closing her eyes to rest, acting like he wasn’t even there.

Sonny felt all pent up inside, his chest tight with frustration.

He peeked over at Tessa, who was pretending to nap, and said, “Hey Tessa, when we get home, let’s totally snitch on Mom to Dad–she was so mean to us!”

Tessa’s lips curled into a cold, fierce smile as she opened her eyes and looked right at Sonny.

Her eyes weren’t soft anymore–they were cold and sharp, almost scary.

“Mom? Remember this–now, I’m your mom. Got it?” Tessa said, voice low and threatening.

    Her tone was ice cold.

Sonny couldn’t help but shrink his neck, his heart pounding as he looked up at Tessa with a hint of fear in his

    eyes.

‘She’s never given me that look before,‘ Sonny thought, a cold shiver running through him.

Tessapletely ignored Sonny’s fear, acting like it didn’t exist.

Noticing how Sonny’s features resembled Xylia’s, she couldn’t hide the disgust that shed briefly in her eyes.

“What are you looking at? Hear me clearly–from now on, forget that Xylia was ever your mother. From this day forward, I’m your mom. If you call it wrong in public, there’ll be consequences,” Tessa warned, her voice icy and fierce.

“Not a word. I need to rest. Don’t disturb me,” she ordered.

With that, Tessa shut her eyes again, refusing to spare Sonny even a single nce.

Sonny’s face went ghostly pale; he mped a hand over his mouth, not daring to breathe a single word. ‘I better not say anything… Tessa’s really scary when she gets like this,‘ he thought, his nerves on edge.
