This was the first time since she’d known Joshua that Xylia had ever heard him talk to her like this.

He’d always protected her dignity and never tried to interfere in her personal life. But now, he wasying out his expectations, making his request clear. And his tone was more serious than ever.

Xylia was momentarily stunned. But when she realized Joshua was just worried about her, she simply smiled.

“Rx. I’m going to divorce him soon. Seriously, you don’t have to worry about me,” she said.

But Joshua’s frown stayed put. He walked right up to Xylia. He looked at her and said, “If you think the divorce is a pain, just say the word, and I’ll help you out.”

“No, that’s not necessary, Xylia blurted out, clearly resisting.

Joshua just stared at her, saying nothing

“This is my business. Please stay out of it,” she said quietly, avoiding his eyes.

Joshua could feel the distance Xylia was putting between them, and it left him even more uneasy.

Just as he was about to say something, Connor walked in. When he saw Joshua in the hospital room, his expression darkened even more.

“Why are you here?” Connor demanded, his voice raised and tinged with anger.

Afraid Connor would cause trouble for Joshua, Xylia spoke up first. “I’m sick, and he just came to see how I was doing. What’s wrong?”

Connor hadn’t expected Xylia to defend Joshua like that, and his expression darkened even more.

“Xylia, I haven’t seen you in a few days, and now you’re letting hime visit you? Have you no shame?” he snapped.

“Connor, what nonsense are you spouting?” Xylia shot back, her voice sharp.

Connor was already furious because Joshua had taken his business, and seeing Joshua getting close to Xylia made his rage hit the roof.

Xylia looked at Joshua. “Why don’t you head back first?” she said softly.

Joshua caught the concern deep in Xylia’s eyes. His hand tightened at his side, and his face softened just a bit.

“Get some rest,” he said. With that, Joshua turned and walked out, not sparing Connor a single nce. Connor turned to Xylia, his face as dark as midnight. The gentle look he usually wore was now reced by a chilling frost.

“Xylia, did you forget what I told you? If you still refuse to cut him off, I swear I’ll make him pay for it,”

    Connor growled.

Xylia said. “I’ve told you before. Joshua and I are just friends. You keep twisting things between us. What? Are you just dying to call yourself a cuckold?”

Her voice was almost indifferent, but every wordnded right where it hurt, sharp and merciless.

Connor’s anger boiled over. He stormed up and grabbed Xylia’s chin, his grip rough and unyielding. “You screw up and still have the nerve to make excuses?”

“What did I do wrong?” Xylia shot back, meeting Connor’s furious re with unwavering determination.

Connor had never seen this side of her before, and for a moment, he waspletely thrown off. He yanked Xylia away, rough and merciless.

Xylia steadied herself with one hand on the bed, refusing to let herself look weak.

“Xylia, don’t test my limits. If you keep this up, even if Grandpa insists, I’m done with you,” Connor warned.

By the time Xylia looked up, Connor had already stormed out of the room.

Xylia frowned, her heart leaping into her throat. She just couldn’t figure out why Connor, who was obviously into Tessa, shot her down every time she brought up divorce.

‘Orion is clearly trying to use me and this marriage for his benefit. What’s he really after? I need to get to the bottom of this, she wondered.

After leaving the room, Connor strode after Joshua, catching up to him in just a few quick steps. “Stop right there,” he barked.

    Joshua turned to face Connor.

“I don’t give a damn who you are, but if you keep sniffing around my wife, you’re dead meat, Connor spat, his eyes zing with fury.

Joshua’s lips curled into a smirk, but there wasn’t a trace of warmth on his face. “What will you do?” he shot back, his tone dripping with sarcasm.

Connor stepped right up to Joshua, his eyes scanning Joshua’s face with a cold, calcting look.

“You work for the Garcia family, right? Even with their backing, don’t think I can’t mess with you here in Jupiton. If you want to keep your job, you’d better stay in line, Connor threatened.

Joshua scoffed, “Mr. Ford, you im to care so much about your wife? Then why did you make her take the me for that car ident four months ago?”

Connor’s eyes widened in shock, his disbelief written all over his face. He couldn’t believe Joshua actually knew about that. But he didn’t admit it.

“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” Connor said, his voice tight.

    “You know exactly what I

“Connor, this is just the beginning,” Joshua warned. With that, he turned and walked away.

Connor watched Joshua walk away, feeling a chill crawl down his spine. ‘Shit, if Joshua knows, does Xylia know, too?‘ he thought, panic rising in his chest.

Nylia was just about to order some food online when Connor suddenly walked back into the room.

“I got your discharge done a total 180–he seemed like a whole new man.

ned. Let’s go home, he said. When Connor walked back into the room, it was like he’d

Connor met Xylia’s eyes, and for once, there was actual regret flickering in his gaze.

Connor stepped forward as if to pick Xylia up, but she immediately pulled away, refusing to let him touch

    her.

“I can walk by myself,” Xylia said firmly. She pushed herself up with her crutches, deliberately keeping her distance from Connor as she walked past him.

Just now, she’d been wondering when she’d head back to the Ford family. She had to figure out what kind of lies Orion was really hiding from her.

Connor watched as Xylia kept her distance, and he couldn’t shake the feeling that she must’ve found out something.

Joshua must not have spilled everything. Otherwise, there’s no way she’d be this chill,’ he wondered. ‘She’s always been soft–hearted. If I treat her better for a while, maybe she’ll let it go and forgive me!

When they got home, Connor ignored Xylia’s struggles and forcibly carried her into his own bedroom. “From now on, you’re sharing a room with me,” he dered.

“No way,” Xylia snapped. She resisted, dragging her injured leg as she tried to get out.

Connor seized her arm, refusing to let her leave. “We’re husband and wife. We should be sleeping in the same

“These days apart have given us both time to cool off. If you could just chill out a bit, we could get things back to the way they were.”

Xylia tried to shake off Connor’s grip, but couldn’t break free. Instead, she replied in a cool, detached voice, “I don’t want things to go back. I just want a divorce.”

Connor’s face darkened instantly as he wondered, ‘I have already softened my tone, so why wouldn’t she just go along with it? I’ve spoiled her too much all this time, and now she thinks she can just walk all over me.

“I don’t care what Joshua’s been telling you. You’re my wife. You should be trusting me, not him,” Connor said, his tone harsh and using

“Xylia, we’ve been married for seven years. All this time, I never made you get a job or go through any hardship. Why can’t you appreciate what I’ve done for you?” Connor snapped, his frustration boiling over.

Xylia gave a cold, mockingugh. “For seven years, you were out making money, but do you really think I was just lounging around at home?

“I raised the kids, kept the house running–everything. Who are you to dismiss all that I’ve done for this family?”

“We’ve got servants, so what did you even do?” Connor sneered, his tone full of contempt.

Xylia knew there was no point arguing with him; he’d never get it. And honestly, she didn’t even want to exin herself anymore.

“Fine, let’s divorce. There’s nothing left to talk about,” Xylia said, her voice icy and resolute.

Xylia tried to walk away, but Connor grabbed her arm and held her back, refusing to let her leave.

“What if you had another baby? Would you still want a divorce?” Connor’s voice was low and urgent.
