Tricked 42

Seeing Connor now, Xylia couldn’t help but remember how he had looked earlier that afternoon, his face cold as he ordered the servants to lock her in the dark room.

Her face went pale, and fear twisted in her gut. She stepped back, eyes wary as she watched Connor. “What do you want?”

Seeing Xylia like this, Connor couldn’t help but feel a pang of sympathy. ‘Did I really scare her that much?” he thought.

Connor’s tone softened as he looked at Xylia with unexpected gentleness. “I was wrong this afternoon. I promise I won’t lock you in the attic again.”

Xylia didn’t buy it. “Get out,” she snapped.

Instead of leaving, Connor took a couple of steps closer. I’m not divorcing you, and you’re not leaving the Ford Mansion.

“I’ll just act like nothing ever happened between you and that pretty boy. You’re still my wife. Face it. Your hands and legs are useless now. If you leave, where could you possibly go?”

Xylia scoffed, herugh cold and sharp. “You know damn well who’s behind all these injuries.”

Connor stiffened, his expression turning rigid. “Does she know? he wondered. Panic shed in his mind. He demanded, voice tight, “What do you know?”

Xylia said, her voice steady but resolute, “Connor, if you want to get this over with, let’s just go file for divorce right now. I don’t want any of your money or assets.

“Sonny can stay with you. I just want a divorce. Whatever happens between you and Tessa after that, I don’t

    care anymore.”

Connor’s panic quickly turned to anger.

I’ve been lying to Xylia for so long. There’s no way she could’ve figured out the truth in just one night, he thought, suspicion flickering in his eyes. ‘She’s just acting jealous right now!

Connor’s face hardened. “Xylia, I’ve told you a million times. Tessa and I are just friends. Do you really have to keep bringing this up?

“Tessa’s been loyal to her husband all this time. Do you really think she’s like you, running around with other

    men?”

Xylia’s stomach twisted. ‘So that’s really what he thinks of me?‘ she wondered.

“Nothing you say will change my mind. I’m divorcing you,” she shot back.

Connor’s anger red as he snapped, “Let me spell it out for you, Xylia. This marriage ends when I say so, not when you want.

“And you’re not allowed to go anywhere except the Ford Mansion. If you dare step outside, I promise I won’t let that pretty boy you’re seeing go.

Xylia’s brow furrowed. “What are you gonna do to him?” she demanded.

“That depends on your next move,” Connor replied coldly.

Connor gave Xylia a frosty re, threw her phone to her, then turned and walked out of the bedroom.

Xylia sat down on the edge of the bed, gripping her phone tightly in her hand.

The Ford family was an elite powerhouse in Jupiton. Connor had countless ways to make him pay.

That was the cold, hard truth; without any backing, Joshua was an easy mark for revenge.

Xylia was still wrestling with her thoughts when her phone rang again. It was Joshua calling. She took a deep breath before answering.

“Hello, Xylia?” Joshua’s voice was low and maic, tinged with uncertainty.

Xylia was so lost in her thoughts that she didn’t even notice his tone was very gentle. Joshua, thank you.”

Just now downstairs, when Xylia heard Mnie say that the person who called the police was a man, she guessed it was Joshua. She didn’t have any other friends.

“Are you okay?” Joshua’s voice was full of concern. Before Xylia could say anything, he went on, “You can’t stay at the Ford Mansion anymore. My friend’s apartment is empty.

“Why don’t you move out and stay there for now? I’ll help you sort out the divorce.”

Xylia could sense the worry in Joshua’s voice. But she didn’t want him to get caught up in her problems.

    because of her.

“No, thanks. Really, I’m okay.” She blinked back tears and said quietly, “Joshua, this is something I need to handle myself. Please, don’t get involved, alright?”

On the other end of the line, Joshua clenched his fists so tightly his knuckles turned white. A cold, menacing aura radiated from him; he looked downright terrifying.

‘Don’t get involved?‘ Joshua wondered, ‘Like hell I’m staying out of this.”

“Alright,” Joshua said, struggling to keep his emotions in check. “Don’t forget to take your meds and put on the ointment for your hand.”

    “I will, Xylia replied softly.

“But,” Joshua paused, unable to hold back, “if Connor everys a hand on you again, there’s no way I’ll just sit back and do nothing.”

“It’s Xylia barely got the word out before Joshua ended the call.

Xylia stared at her phone after the call ended, a wave of helplessness washing over her. But even more than that, she felt deeply moved by his kindness. Joshua really is so good to me, she thought.

After hanging up, Joshua rose to his feet, his expression grim.

David was justing in when they nearly collided at the door. “Mr. Garcia?” he asked, looking uncertain.

“Get the car keys. We’re going to find Crawford now,” Joshua ordered.

David quickly snapped out of it and hurried after him. “But it’s sote now. Mr. Fletcher might already be asleep.,” he said hesitantly.

Joshua didn’t even seem to hear him. He knew there was no time to waste. He had to make Connor pay the price.

As Connor left Xylia’s room and headed toward his own, he saw Tessa standing right outside his bedroom door, waiting for him.

His icy demeanor melted in an instant. “Tessa, were you waiting for me?” he asked.

Tessa nodded, her eyes full of guilt as she looked at him. “I came to apologize. Just now, a guy called Xylia, and I picked up instead.

“I identally told him about Xylia being locked up in the attic, and that’s why he called the police. I’m really sorry. It was all my fault.”

When Connor heard that guy, his expression darkened. But seeing Tessa looking so guilty, he felt a pang of sympathy for her.

He reached out and rested his hand gently on her head. “This has nothing to do with you. You don’t have to carry the burden for what Xylia did.”

“What are you going to do now?” Tessa asked.

Connor’s voice was calm. “If Xylia owns up to her mistakes and changes, I’ll forgive her and try to live peacefully together. But if she doesn’t, then I’ll see to it that guy vanishes from Jupiton permanently.”

As soon as Tessa heard Connor’s words, her gaze lost its light. “Is that all? Just make him disappear?” she wondered.

Suddenly, Tessa grabbed Connor’s hand, her eyes brimming with tears as she gazed up at him.

She’d always been the bright, tomboyish girl; seeing her like this genuinely startled Connor. Tessa, what’s wrong?” he blurted out.

“Connor, I’ve been thinking a lot these past few days. It’s bad enough that Xylia doesn’t care about you Sonny, but now she’s getting involved with other men.

    and

“That’s really crossing the line. If you want to divorce her, you have my full support, Tessa said, her voice

‘Here we go again with the divorce talk, Connor thought, annoyance bubbling up inside. It made him bristle instinctively.

Deep down, Connor knew Xylia needed his protection. He owed her, and there was no way he’d ever let divorce happen.

Before Connor could say a word, Tessa said something thatpletely floored him. “Connor, I know you’ve always had feelings for me. I’ve seen how good you are to me.

“I’ve stayed faithful to Qadir all these years, but honestly, I think I’ve done enough.

    Her meaning was crystal clear.

Connor stared at her in shock, his eyes colliding with hers, filled with hope and longing. He stood there for a long moment before his brow suddenly furrowed.

Connor should have felt happy; after all these years, the woman he’d cared for was finally willing to be with him. But instead, the first image that shed through his mind was Xylia.

Connor pulled his hand away. “Don’t joke around. Tessa. It’ste. You should get some sleep.”

Tessa watched as Connor disappeared into his bedroom, her face growing colder and harder with every step he took.

‘Xylia, I really did underestimate you, Tessa thought, resentment simmering in her chest.
