Chapter 916 - 916 Whispers Of An Immortal

Looking at her red cheeks, I finally shook my head.

Seeing this, Amber Skye didn''t push her offer and walked away with the herb basket on her back.

I sat quietly on a rock, my eyes half-shut, breathing softly.

After some time passed, Amber came back from outside.

Spotting me sitting on the rock, she walked over and whispered, "Mason, you''re still awake."

I nodded and said, "Can''t sleep."

Amber went on, "Your injuries aren''t healed yet. You need to rest more. I... I''ll go get some water so you can wash up."

I looked up at her, ready to say no, but noticed something strange about her face.

She seemed to be dodging my eyes, scared I might see her.

"What happened to your face?" I asked.

Amber, hiding her face, quickly answered, "Nothing... I... I''m getting water for you."

    Then, she rushed off.

Soon enough, Amber came back with the water.

She set the water down in front of me and said, "You... you can wash up."

It was clear that Amber was a hardworking, straightforward, and caring woman.

Living at society''s lowest level, her honest and simple nature was truly refreshing.

Watching her care for me so carefully, I felt a bit guilty.

I slowly stood up and ced my hand on Amber''s face.

This move made her face turn bright red right away.

    She whispered, "Mason, you..."

Without exining, I let my hand glow, and a bit of qi flowed from my palm, spreading over Amber''s face.

Amber felt warmth and soothingfort on her face.

After about half a minute, I pulled my hand away.

Amber instinctively touched her face, shocked to discover the redness and swelling had vanished.

"How did you do that?" she asked in disbelief, her eyes huge.

I didn''t exin. For a Half-step Martial Sage like me, this was just a simple wound I could easily fix.

But for Amber, who knew some medicine, this was like witnessing a miracle.

"Mason, you... you''re incredible!" Excitement lit up Amber''s face.

I smiled and said, "It''s nothing special."

Though Amber wanted to say more, I stopped her.

    "You should get some sleep."

After saying this, I ignored Amber.

I sat on the rock, thinking about how to handle the Martial Saint hunting me.

Though Amber wanted to talk to me, she didn''t dare speak up and carefully moved to one side.

    I stayed up all night.

After lots of thinking, the safest n was to hide my face and keep a low profile for now.

The next morning, before dawn, Amber woke up early, strapped a medicine basket to her back, and got ready to collect herbs.

Seeing me sitting on the rock, Amber asked in surprise, "How... how are you up so early?"

I replied casually, "Hmm, couldn''t sleep anymore. What about you?"

Amber said, "I need to get up early to collect herbs."

Hearing this, I frowned and asked, "Do you do this every single day?"

"Yes, do you want toe along?" Amber asked hesitantly.

After thinking it over, I decided that experiencing different parts of life was part of my training.

So, I got up and said, "Sure."

As soon as Amber heard my yes, excitement shed in her eyes.

She quickly offered, "Should I... cook you something first? You should eat something."

"No need. Let''s go." I waved my hand.

The two of us headed out to collect herbs.

The herb-collecting spot was the same forest where I had crashed.

This huge forest was packed with all kinds of weird and unusual nts.

Every now and then, wild animals lurked in the forest, and I could clearly hear growling from the dark spots.

"Don''t you get scared running into wild animals when you collect herbs alone every day?" I couldn''t help asking in surprise.

Amber Skye answered quietly, "I do get scared, but I''m pretty lucky and usually manage to escape."

"That sounds way too risky." I frowned.

Amber Skye sighed, "I don''t have any other choice..."

"I don''t get why you have to collect herbs every day. Does everyone in the vige do this?" I asked curiously.

Amber Skye opened her mouth like she wanted to speak but ended up shaking her head.

"If you''re dealing with something tough, you can tell me. I might be able to help." I said.

After all, Amber Skye had helped me, so I felt I should return the favor.

"No need!" Amber Skye shook her head, smiling, "I can manage on my own."

I didn''t push when I saw her response.

In the woods, Amber Skye carefully gathered herbs everywhere.

She seemed to have a sharp sense for danger, staying away from spots where wild animals hung out.

All morning long, Amber Skye had slowly filled up a whole basket of herbs.

Even though these herbs were ordinary, their healing qualities were well-kept.

"I''m beat." Amber Skye sat on the ground, wiping sweat from her forehead.

Suddenly, Amber Skye''s stomach growled loudly.

Her face instantly went red with embarrassment, and she quickly turned her head away.

I nced at her and said, "You don''t usually eat lunch?"

Amber Skye replied, "I brought a pancake. Want one?"

With that, Amber Skye pulled a pancake from her bag.

"That''s all you eat?" I couldn''t help but frown.

Amber Skye smiled and said, "It''s just lunch, so I keep it simple."

I thought for a moment and said, "Wait here."

"Where are you going?" Amber Skye quickly asked.

Without answering, I turned around and walked deeper into the woods.

Soon after, I came back, dragging a wild boar.

Seeing this, Amber Skye''s eyes went wide.

"Wh... where did you find the wild boar?" Amber Skye eximed in shock.

I replied casually, "Found it along the way."

After saying this, I ripped the wild boar apart with my bare hands.

This stunned Amber Skye even more!

"Mason, you... that''s incredible strength," Amber Skye said in amazement.

I tore off a leg and then lit my spiritual fire.

By now, my control over the spiritual fire was basically perfect. In just a few minutes, a grilled boar leg was done.

"Eat up." I handed the boar leg to Amber Skye.

Amber Skye swallowed hard, grabbed the boar leg, and ate it hungrily.

"It tastes amazing." It seemed Amber Skye was really hungry, as she quickly finished the whole leg.

After eating, Amber Skye looked a bit embarrassed.

Wiping her mouth, she said somewhat awkwardly, "Did I eat too quickly?"

I shook my head without speaking.

"Mason, you''re really incredible, almost like the old immortal in our vige," Amber Skye mumbled.

"Old immortal?" I raised an eyebrow.

Amber Skye nodded quickly, "Yes, the old immortal in our vige is super powerful! They say he can fly through the sky and dig underground, even rip wild animals apart with his bare hands!"

Hearing this, I murmured, "He must be a cultivator."

    "What?" Amber Skye asked.

I shook my head and continued, "Is he from your vige originally?"

Amber Skye shook her head, "No, they say he turned into an old immortal a few years ago after getting a heavenly gift in our vige."

    Hearing this, I became interested.

The so-called heavenly gift was obviously bullshit.

But... the fact that he suddenly became a cultivator meant he must have discovered some Dharma Treasure in the vige.

"Maybe this old immortal could give me a treasure," I thought secretly.
