Chapter 89

    …

    Samuel’s lips quivered. “Emery… all this time…”

“Alright, take them away,” James said. “It’s too noisy.”

Almost immediately, guards arrived and forcibly dragged the trio out of the venue.

Seeing them gone, James adjusted his cufflinks and faced the crowd. “Ladies and gentlemen, my apologies for the disruption. The Be family has always valued its guests, and tonight should have been about celebration, not spectacle. For the record, the Dwight family has nothing to do with us, nor will they ever have anything to do with us. There will be no cooperation, no association, and no alliance of any kind moving forward. Please, enjoy the rest of the evening. The bar is open, and the program will continue shortly.”

Polite apuse broke out, mixed with murmurs, as the tension slowly bled back into whispers of gossip. James gave a curt nod to the event coordinator, signaling the music to start again.

Outside, the scene was anything butposed. Vanessa, ire, and Samuel were hauled through the lobby doors by security. Vanessa wed at the arms holding her, her voice shrill. “Let me go! This is harassment! I’ll sue you all for this!”

Meanwhile, ire kicked against the marble floor, twisting her body as two guards gripped her arms. “Get your hands off me! Don’t touch me! Don’t you dare touch me! I’ll have you all fired!” Her hair slipped loose from its pins, strands sticking to her face as she struggled.

However, Samuel was less concerned about the guards than the woman inside. He kept shouting her name as if Emery could even hear him. “Emery! Emery, listen to me! Emery!” His voice cracked, but the security team ignored him and dragged him forward.

The more they resisted, the more guards stepped in until it looked less like an escort and more like a removal squad. Guests lingering near the entrance watched openly, phones raised to capture the Dwight family being shoved through the revolving doors.

The trio stumbled onto the pavement outside, clothes rumpled, faces red from the struggle. Just as Vanessa straightened to protest again, a hotel manager in a pressed ck suit stepped out after them. He smoothed his tie before speaking.

“Good Evening, I am Mr. Reynolds, the Manager of this hotel. From this moment forward, the Dwight family is banned from this property.” He announced with a cordial smile on his face. “And not only this one. All hotels in our chain worldwide will no longer amodate you.”

“What?” Vanessa’s jaw dropped. “Banned? Who do you think you are to embarrass us like this? Do you even know who we are!?”

The manager’s expression didn’t change. “You offended the owner of the hotel. Naturally, you’ll be banned from every property under our brand. He gave a small, professional smile, “Have a great night.”

The ss doors closed behind him, shutting them outpletely. Cameras from bystanders stayed on them, shes going off as Vanessa and ire’s angry shouts echoed down the street.

Then, Vanessa’s face drained of color as she clutched her chest, gasping for air. Her knees buckled. Luckily,

ire caught her arm before she fell.

“Mom!?” ire shouted, holding her up. “Mom, are you alright? Somebody help–Samuel! Samuel, get over here! Call 911! Samuel! What the hell!?”

But Samuel didn’t move. He sat slumped on the pavement, hands limp at his sides, staring nkly at the hotel doors. His lips moved, but the only word that came out was, “Emery… Emery… why?” over and over again.

ire’s eyes widened in disbelief. “Samuel! Snap out of it! Mom needs help!” Still nothing. He didn’t even look up.

“Calm down, Mom,” ire said quickly, tightening her grip on Vanessa’s shoulders. “You’re fine. Just breathe. You’ll be fine. I am calling 911.”

Vanessa’s fingers dug into her daughter’s arm as her voice shook. “ire… tell me this is a dream. Tell me I’m asleep. This–this humiliation–it can’t be real. Tell me it’s not real!”

Tears of frustration welled in ire’s eyes as she tried to steady her mother. “I wish it was, Mom. I swear I wish it was…” She turned to Samuel again. “But look at him! He’s useless right now!” She was trying to get ahold of her phone from her clutch while holding her mother but found it hard to do so.

Vanessa’s head snapped toward her son. “Samuel!” she barked, her voice breaking. “What are you doing sitting there? Get up! You need to go back in there! You need to apologize to Emery! Fix this before it’s toote!”

Samuel didn’t respond, still staring at the door like a man possessed. “Why would you hide this Em… Why…” he muttered, voice hollow.

ire’s face twisted with anger. “Forget him, Mom! Look at what just happened. That bitch really got lucky. Who would’ve thought she was actually one of the Bes? She fooled all of us.” Her tone sharpened, dripping with venom. “Don’t you see? She must have nned this from the start. That’s why she never told us who she really was. She was waiting to strike. She’s targeting our family. She wants our secrets, ourpany, everything!”

Vanessa shook her head, still trembling. “No… no, Emery was nothing. She lived in our house, ate our food, she was nothing!”

“That’s exactly why she yed the victim!” ire spat. “She pretended to be weak so we wouldn’t suspect her. If she had told us she was a Be, we never would’ve treated her like that. We would’ve respected her, maybe even helped her. But no, she wanted us to bully her. She wanted to look like the poor little victim so she could turn this around and destroy us!”

Her voice rose with every word, her rage echoing down the street where onlookers still filmed the scene. ire’s chest heaved as she held her mother, ring back at the hotel doors as though Emery herself were standing there, “Stop taking videos or we will sue you!” she hissed.

Beside them, Samuel still sat unmoving, muttering Emery’s name like a broken record, his eyes zed. The sight made Vanessa’s blood boil. Trembling from both anger and humiliation, she steadied herself, then marched toward her son. Without hesitation, she pped him across the face, the sound echoing sharp in the night.

“Snap out of it, Samuel!” she hissed, her eyes burning with fury.

The blow jolted him, and he blinked, disoriented. “Mother?” he murmured, rubbing his cheek. “Emery-”

“Emery is inside,” Vanessa cut him off, her voice dripping venom. She turned her re on the hotel entrance and then back to her son.

“And you will go to her before this night is over. Do you hear me? You will face her. Kneel if you must, but that woman… you need to make sure that she never leaves our family again!”

Getting Emery into their Family was just the first step. Soon, she will make that bitch apologize for what she’s done to us. This humiliation, this disgrace, she caused all of it! She will not let her walk away smug while the Dwight family is dragged through the mud. “You will fix this, Samuel! Do you hear me!? You will fix her!”
