“Emery, will you slow down?” Logan said as he followed her down the hall.
She didn’t stop. She didn’t even turn her head.
“Emery-”
He caught up and grabbed her arm.

She stopped then, her back stiff. Slowly, she turned around. Her eyes locked onto his hand. Then she looked up at him.
“I should’ve knocked,” she said. She was surprised when she saw the news about Samuel’spany and thought Logan did something. She was simply there to ask if he had somehow caused it, but in her hurried state, she forgot to knock.
Her fingers curled around his wrist. She pulled his hand off her arm and let it drop.
“Don’t worry,” she added. “I won’t interfere in your affairs.”
She turned away again.
Logan didn’t move this time. Aplicated look shed in his eyes as he watched her back, as he watched her slowly move away from where he was. Yet he didn’t stop her.
Emery’s steps were controlled, measured. But inside, her chest burned.
What the hell was she doing?
She didn’t even know this man. Not really. She had just agreed to marry him–on impulse, on instinct. Because of a child. Because she wanted to be free from Samuel and obviously, her father.
But this?
She clenched her fists.
Something twisted in her gut. Seeing Logan with that woman, his hand on her throat, the gold in his eyes–it triggered something she couldn’t exin.
It wasn’t jealousy. At least, that’s what she tried to tell herself. They hadn’t been doing anything intimate. It wasn’t like that.
But it still made her angry.
So angry she wanted to scream.
So angry her entire body felt tight, like she was seconds from snapping.
She reached the end of the hall and paused, breathing hard. Then she kept walking.

However, before she could walk inside the room, Logan suddenly stopped her again.
“What is it?” Emery asked.

Logan stepped in front of her, blocking the doorway. His hand didn’t touch her this time, but he didn’t let her
pass.
“It wasn’t what you think,” he said. “That woman-
Emery’s head snapped up. “Don’t.”
He stopped.
“You don’t need to exin anything,” she said, her voice sharp. “I’m not asking.”
“She overstepped-”
“I said don’t,” Emery cut in again. Her hands trembled slightly at her sides, but she didn’t back down. “You don’t owe me anything, Logan. You made that clear from the start. We’re not… whatever this is, it’s not real.”
He didn’t say a word.
She took a breath and stepped back. “I came to find you because I saw something on the news. About Samuel. I thought maybe… I don’t know what I thought.”
She looked away, jaw clenched. “And then I walked in and saw that.”
“It wasn’t what it looked like,” he said again, low.
Emery let out a dryugh. “It never is.” Nothing about this man ever was. She mentally kicked herself for being this naive. What was she even thinking, marrying someone this dangerous?
He opened his mouth, but she held up a hand. “Please. Just stop.”
Her chest rose and fell hard. The anger was still there, sharp and hot, tangled with something she didn’t want to name. Why the heck was she even angry?
She stepped around him, careful not to touch him. “Next time, I’ll knock.”
“Look-” Logan suddenly growled as he held her arm. “I don’t know what your problem was. I was just trying to exin that-”
“And I said, I don’t want to hear it. I don’t want to hear anything about the dangerous side of your business. Whatever it is… drug dealing, trafficking, assassinations, arms smuggling, undergroundworks–whatever the hell you and your men are into, I don’t want to know,” Emery snapped.
Logan’s grip tightened for half a second before he let go.
She kept going. “I don’t care if you’re some mafia king or someone working with the Yakuza trying to build your own empire. I don’t care if people disappear when they cross you or if you have an army out there in the woods.”

Logan’s eyes stayed on her. Still, he didn’t speak.

Emery pointed at him, her hand shaking. “I get it. You have to work. You have enemies. You’ve got things to deal with. But don’t bring it inside this house. Not where I sleep. Not where my child will sleep.”
Her breathing was uneven now, her chest rising and falling with each word. “I agreed to stay here because I thought—stupidly–that I’d be safe. That my baby would be safe. So keep whatever this is–your wars, your power struggles, your executions–outside.”
She took a step back.
“Do you understand me?” she said, quieter now. “Outside.”
He stared at her, but no words came out. It wasn’t because she looked afraid–like he first assumed–it was because of the anger burning in her eyes. She was scared. No. She wasn’t afraid of him. She was angry.
Emery didn’t wait for an answer. She turned and walked into her room, closing the door behind her without looking back.
“Your Highness, Mrs. Hayes has left the premises… she’s driving towards the city,” one of the Omegas in charge of monitoring Emery said. “Two cars are currently following her.”
Logan pursed his lips. He had thought through everything about this marriage. The fact that she was human shouldn’t stop him. However, it immediately became clear that humans and supernaturals had differences that were very difficult to bridge.
He gritted his teeth in silence. He wondered if it would be better to simply let her go back to her won world, in business, away from him. The confrontationst night was enough to make him doubt.
“Logan… here are the current reports from the blood tests done this morning.” Lucille walked in, her expression cold and unreadable.
She didn’t ask what happened. She already knew.
The news had spread fast–one of Caius’s operatives found dead before dawn. Stripped of rank. Marked for betrayal. Executed.
Lucille didn’t flinch. It wasn’t the first time.
Someone had tried to seduce Logan again. And like the others before her, she failed.
Logan’s people didn’t tolerate disobedience. Especially not when it came wrapped in maniption.
Punishment was swift. Death was final.
Perhaps they thought they could get away with it now that he was vulnerable. Or perhaps it was because of the rumors that he left his wife on the first night of their wedding. Either way, Lucille didn’t like the result and personally came to help Logan out.

“She’s normal,” Lucille said. “She doesn’t have any signs of weakness or getting sick, Logan. Do you understand what I mean? Emery is normal.” This part was something that Lucille never understood. How could a human live after carrying the child of someone with the blood of an Alpha?
Lucille had spent days researching the matter and confirmed one thing–humans were never meant to carry the blood of a werewolf. It wasn’t about fate or some ancient prophecy. It was biology. Their gics simply weren’tpatible. Which meant, if Emery was truly pregnant with Logan’s child, she should already be dead.
Anyone else might question the child’s paternity. But not Logan. He was a wolf. He could smell his own blood inside her. There was no doubt.
That left only one possibility.
Emery had supernatural blood in her veins.
And that would only make things even moreplicated.
