“What the hell is he talking about, Emery? What baby?”
Samuel’s voice rang louder, echoing sharply off the hallway walls. The few people nearby froze. Hearing this, Talia stopped struggling. Her wide eyes flicked between them.
Obviously, Emery didn’t respond. She looked at Logan, who remained between her and Samuel, blocking just enough of her from view.
Logan didn’t move. He didn’t speak either. He didn’t need to.
Samuel nced at the clinic door Logan hade from. His gaze dropped to the sign posted beside it: “OBSTETRICS AND MATERNAL CARE.”
His face changed.
His entire expression twisted into something unreadable. “You’re pregnant?”
Emery didn’t answer.
“Is it mine?” he asked. His voice cracked slightly. “Em, is it mine? Just tell me the truth.”
She exhaled through her nose, shifting behind Logan. “Don’t be stupid.”
“You and I–before you disappeared–it wasn’t that long ago. It could be mine. Is this the reason why you left? Em….We can work this out. Please, juste home.”
Logan finally spoke. “Stop dreaming.”
Samuel’s eyes snapped to him. “No one’s talking to you.”
“Then maybe you should be,” Logan said. “Because whatever fantasy you think you’re clinging to, it ends now. She’s not going anywhere with you.”
Before Samuel could respond, there was a sharp sound–skin against skin. Everyone turned.
Talia had pped Samuel across the face. Hard,
“You bastard!” she yelled. “You’re standing here, asking your mistress toe home? In front of me? Atter everything I did for you?”
Samuel grabbed his cheek, stunned.
Talia stepped forward, her heels scraping hard against the floor. “Don’t you dare forget who’s been carrying your family’s deals on her back,” she snapped, pointing a trembling finger at Samuel.
“My family kept yours afloat. And the second 1 lose our child–barely out of the hospital–you’re already sniffing around this whore?” Her voice cracked at the end, but her rage was sharp, cutting through the air like ss.

Emery didn’t flinch. She didn’t speak either.
That was when the nurse returned–this time with two uniformed hospital security guards.
“Excuse me,” the nurse said, stepping between them. “We need everyone to lower their voices. This is a hospital.”
One of the guards approached. “Ma’am,” he said, turning to Talia. “You need to stop. If this continues, we’ll have to escort everyone out.”
Talia spun he did!”
toward him, pointing at Logan. “He assaulted me! You all saw it! Arrest him! I’m suing him for what
The guard didn’t move. “We are not the police, ma’am. If you want to press charges, contact localw enforcement. But right now, you’re causing a scene.”
Talia stared at him in disbelief.
“We will be escorting everyone out of the building,” the other guard added. “And if this continues, you will be banned from the premises.”
As he said this, the first guard briefly looked at Logan.
Then he gave a short, respectful nod.
It wasn’t much. But Emery saw it. She narrowed her eyes.
However, Talia noticed too. “What the hell was that?” she shrieked. “Did you just bow to him? Who even is he? That’s it, right? You must know him and that’s why you refuse to arrest him!”
No one answered.
“You know what? Fine,” she snapped, turning to the nurse. “That woman is a mistress. She broke up my engagement. She should be the one banned! Drag her out! Why are you letting her stay?”
However, the nurse didn’t move. She only looked at Talia, clearly recognizing her and her husband before looking at Emery and Logan.
Talia immediately turned back to the guards. “Don’t you know who I am? Don’t you know who my husband is? Call the hospital director right now! This… this isn’t something you can handle.”
The guards stayed silent. Calm. Unmoved.
Talia’s voice grew louder. “I want her gone!”
Emery looked at Logan.
He was still calm. Still standing between her and everyone else. She couldn’t help but wonder what this man was enjoying this show too much. Clearly, revealing her pregnancy was his intention. What was he scheming?
Samuel raised a hand, palm open, trying to calm the storm. “Talia, just stop. You’re making it worse.”

But his eyes weren’t on her.
They were locked on Emery.

He shifted slightly, trying to get a better look at her, but Logan didn’t budge. He blocked Samuel’s view without saying a word. It was subtle but intentional. Every time Samuel moved, Logan adjusted.
“Emery,” Samuel said, his voice lower now. “Are you really pregnant?”
She didn’t answer.
“If you are,” he continued. “Then I’ll support you. Both of you. Whatever you need. Just tell me the truth.”
Talia whipped her head toward him. Her mouth parted in disbelief.
“You’ll support her?” she said. “Are you out of your mind? You just said that in front of me.”
“Talia, stop,” Samuel muttered, barely sparing her a nce. He took a small step forward, but the nurse quickly stepped in.
“Enough,” she said firmly. “I’m going to ask everyone to leave the premises. You’re disturbing patients. This is your final warning.”
Logan turned to Emery, ignoring Samuelpletely. He gently took her hand.
“You must be starving after all that bloodwork,” he said. “Let’s get something to eat.”
Emery gave a small nod. She didn’t have the energy to speak. Just hearing Samuel again had drained her. Her fingers closed around Logan’s hand.
Logan turned them away, already leading her down the hall.
But Samuel wasn’t finished.
He stepped forward, trying to move past Logan and catch Emery’s attention. “Em, wait. Please. Can we talk in private? Emery!?”
Before he could reach them, Talia grabbed his arm. “Are you kidding me? Samuel! Don’t you dare follow that
bitch or I swear!”
He yanked his arm free.
She grabbed him again.
And this me, he shoved her. Hard
Talia stumbled back and hit the floor with a sharp cry
Gasps echoed from nearby patients and staff.
The guards stepped forward instantly, trying to help her out.

“That’s enough,” one of them snapped.
Emery looked back briefly. Talia was on the floor, trying to sit up, clutching her elbow. Samuel stood frozen, breathing heavily, his hands balled into fists.
Logan kept walking, his grip on Emery’s hand steady.
“Let’s not waste another minute here,” he said without turning back. “This is bad for our child.”
