Guard 123

    Chapter 123 Amalie

I sit in the hospital room, wrapped in a nket, as I watch Uncle Will inspect Cal’s shoulder. Part of me is very d that I’m not the one in the hospital. The other part is upset that it’s not me and Cal instead. I wish that I could take the pain for him, that I had been hurt instead.

Cal had put on a pair of shorts after he transformed back into his human self. Mark and Uncle Will too. Me, I got a sheet after they were unable to find me some spare clothing.

Cal is healing quickly, thanks to Zviad. Uncle Will is inspecting the bone as it heals, making sure that it is not fragmented and splintered. It had looked worse when he had transformed. But Uncle Will had cleaned the wound and it looked much better now.

I am jealous at how fast he is healing. If it was me, my shoulder would be out ofmission for the next few days.

“What are you thinking about so hard over there, Love?” Cal asks with a smirk, his tone almost joking.

I bite back a growl of frustration. “How can you joke at a time like this? You’re hurt! My father and

two others went missing, this morning! Now we have people who are trying to overthrow you!” I

shout as I stand up to face Calbetter. “You both are acting like it didn’t happen or matter!”

“Darling, we are not dismissing what happened,” Mark sighs as he pulls me to him. He is leaning against the wall as he observed his older twin get worked on.

“But right now, we have to focus on you, or we are going to rip the pack apart,” Cal growls

    dangerously.

“Packw states that we should have the traitors killed, but right now we don’t know who all the traitors are. Some might just be going along with the loudest voices. But we are more focused on you right now,” Mark says as he kisses my neck.

“Why me and not the pack? We talked about this. The pack is supposed to be your focus,” I say as I re at Cal in front of me.

“Yes, we did. But right now, you just outed yourself as a white wolf and the whole pack knows. We have been getting mind links demanding for answers, but we keep ignoring them,” Mark says as he tightens his hold on my stomach

“Gretchen called in her mate, Robert toe help man the front desk with her,” Uncle Will says as he threads a needle to sew up/Cal.

“What happened?” I ask, fear in my tone.

“A few people tried to get in here to demand answers,” Cal says as Uncle Will starts to sew closed

    the wound.

“Jimmy and Vickie are standing guard outside the door right now,” Uncle Will says as he makes quick work of sewing my mate’s shoulder closed.

“James is with Kira at the secure house. Sam and Nick are with the two at the pack house,” Mark says with a sigh. “What happened to allow the male rogue to escape?”

“Daniel went back to the witch coven to get information for us. He left his sister here for her protection,” Cal tells us.

“That’s it?” Mark growls at his twin.

“No, but that is the important parts,” Cal huffs back, a slight growl in his own voice.

“How did he escape?” Mark demands to know.

“We staged an escape, but everything went downhill too fast,” Cal tells us.

“Why not let him go quietly at night?” I ask. Everything could have been avoided if nobody saw the

    escape.

“In case there are other rogues in the area, we needed Daniel to escape, not be set free,” Cal says as he shoots a look at Mark when he opens his mouth.

Mark takes a breath and then sighs, “Okay, it makes sense and was a good n.” Mark looks at me and then back at Cal. “We need to figure out more about this witch and her coven. They are causing too many problems.”

“Agreed, which is why I agreed with Daniel when he said that he would go back and spy on them for us,” Cal says as he looks down at his shoulder in irritation.

“Zviad is very strong, be he is working on internal injuries first before he can work on healing the stitches,” Uncle Will says to Cal in exasperation.

    1

“Doesn’t mean that it still itches and sucks,” Cal huffs.

“Can we go home?” Mark asks as he pushes us away from the wall.

“I thought we would be going to the pack house for damage control?” I ask as I look at both of my

    mates.

“You’re free to go,” Uncle Will sighs as he packs up his things. “I will meet you at the pack house. I need to look over those two traitors.”

Cal nods his head as he gets off the bed.

“Well, we figured that you would like to change out of your sheet before we go to the pack house Mark chuckles as he ys with part of my sheet.

I go crimson with embarrassment. I had forgotten that I was the only one who did not have actual clothes on. I tighten the sheet that is wrapped around me..

‘Could be a bold fashion choice,‘ Beren lets out augh.

‘Hush, you don’t know fashion, and I’m still mad at you,‘ I huff.

‘I know, and I’m sorry,‘ Beren whispers.

I thought we promised to not keep things from each other,‘ I point out.

“Love?” Cal asks as he and Mark are waiting on me.

“Sorry, I was talking with Beren,” I say with a sigh as I leave the hospital room.

“She okay now?” Mark asks as he wraps an arm around me.

“Yea, she hasn’t said anything about what happened earlier,” I sigh as I lean into his touch. He is warm andfortable. 1

“Do you want me to carry you?” Mark asks with a chuckle.

“Please?” I ask. I don’t want to be walking around the pack in a sheet.

Markughs as he scoops me up and into his arms. “You know, having you wrapped up in a sheet, I was hoping it would have been for other reasons,” Mark musses.

I go bright red again as I know exactly why he would want me wrapped in a sheet.

“You are so cute, darling,” Markughs as he kisses my nose.

I burry my face into his chest and block out the world. This causes Cal to chuckle at me and Mark to Haugh louder.
