Chapter 93 Calyx

“So?” James asks in a sing song voice as he lounges on the couch in our office.

“So what?” I ask as I look over a document about packnds. A few human farmers use some of ournd for crops. The farms have been in those families for years. They know who we are and assist in keeping our secret when needed. They have submitted their reports for what fields have what in them for the growing season.

“Don’t be like that!” James whines dramatically. He then turns and looks at Mark.

“What we did is none of your business,” Mark smirks at our Beta.

“Marky, you wound me! And here I thought you were my favorite Alpha,” our Beta continues on in a

    dramatic tone.

“I still am your favorite no matter what,” Mark points out with a smirk still on his face.

“That is very true. But I want to make sure that you have been treating our Luna right, right Sam?”

James says trying to rope our Gamma into this nonsense.

“Leave me out of this,” Sam says, but there is curiosity in his voice. He is sitting in a chair across from my desk as he looks over a report. Sam hade to the office to spend time with us before he was going to Uncle Mike’s to watch Ama until we were done at the Pack House.

“We went to Velvet vors in Gretna,” I say as I set down the report.

“And?” Nick asks with a smile.

“You are all a bunch of nosy women,” Mark’growl lightly at our friends.

“And you love us, now what else did you do?” Jamesughs as he presses for more details.

“Don’t you all have responsibilities that you are supposed to be doing before the weekend?” I ask with an eyebrow raised.

    “Details first,” Nick pleads.

“After dinner, we went stargazing and then came home. It was a nice date,” Mark says simply.

“That’s it? No sex or at least some heavy make out?” James asks with a pout.

“Out!” both Mark and I order at the same time.

James and Nick leave, cackling like hyenas. Sam gives us a nod, and a smirk, before he too leaves. Once they are gone, our office is finally quiet. Mark and I spend a few minutes looking over reports

before there is a knock on the door.

“Enter,” Mark says as he sets aside his report.

“Alphas,” Colton says as he enters our office.

I set my own report down and look up at the former Beta. “What can we do for you?” I ask.

“What is your n for your father’s Gamma and his family and Delta?” Colton asks.

He is distancing himself by not saying their names. I can’t say that I me him. These two used to be his friends. Hell, these used to be people we considered Uncles and family.

“We have not discussed it yet,” I say in a measured tone.

Colton seems to copse on into one of the chairs in our office. He seems so defeated in this moment. “Why? How could they do this? Lawrence has always been strict about things, but to be abusing your own family?” Colton asks in defeat.

“What do you know about his mate?” Mark asks.

Goddess, Ipletely forgot about Sarah. She must have taken the brunt of Lawrence’s abuse over

    the years.

“She came to talk to me yesterday. When I pushed, she mmed up and refused to say anything about what he did to her,” he tells us.

“She won’t speak of the abuse?” I ask carefully.

“No, she won’t speak out against her mate,“/Colton informs us.

“That might be a problem for the Elder Council. We have Nick but it wille down to his word against his father,” I sigh.

“We saw the bruises,” Mark growls in anger.

“What bruises? They will ask. We did not document anything and now everything, any proof, has long healed,” I sigh in defeat.

“We need a confession from Lawrence, which he will never give, or his mate to speak up,” Colton.

    says.

“We can Alpha order him to tell the truth,” Mark argues.

“The Elders will think we are making him say what we want. It has to be of their free will for it to count,” I growl. I take a few deep breaths to calm myself and Zviad. “What we need to do now, is

focus on confronting Sam’s family and Amalie’s family. Someone has to know something about why our father wanted Amalie locked away.”

“That we can use our Alpha orders, right?” Mark asks with glee.

“You shouldn’t, but I doubt the council will oppose you,” Colton says with a slight smile. “When do you want to confront them?”

“We will do it tomorrow,” I sigh. “We promised Ama that we would only spend a few hours here and then spend the rest of the day with her.”

“Young love,” Colton smiles. “Treat her right.”

    “Of course,” I say.

“She is our mate, and we have waited years,” Mark says just as serious.

“How’s being a father?” Colton asks us with a nod.

“Rose is perfect,” Mark says happily.

“Did you ever feel like you were one step away from being a horrible parent?” I ask, honesty dripping from my words.

Mark whips his head in my direction so fast, I can hear it crack. “Dude?”

Colton simplyughs. “That is being a parent. Only idiots feel as if they have everything all together. You will make mistakes. But you learn and be better,” he smiles. “Make sure you keep talking with Ama. She has spent thest few years on her own raising Rose.”

I nod my head. Communication is key in any rtionship. “But, as Mark said, she is perfect,” I say with a smile.

“Most kids are perfect. James was trouble, but I wouldn’t have had it any other way,” Colton says.
